              • I am hoping that before the OP started asking questions about caliber and action, that they've already asked (and answered) questions about the child or minor in question. How old is the child/minor? How mature is the child/minor? Has the child/minor expressed an interest in firearms, hunting, or shooting sports? Are they in a household/family that has firearms? Have they been raised and taught that firearms are (like many items around a house) potentially dangerous objects? Do they know to not take or use ANY of the dangerous objects in the house without adult consent and supervision? How consistently does the child/minor follow those rules? Are their parents/guardians aware of their local, state and federal laws regarding child access and usage of firearms? If the child/minor is old enough, mature enough, and has the proper parental supervision and approval, has the child/minor (and the parents) taken the relevant firearms (and hunting) safety courses in order to be compliant with the legal requirements for a child/minor to operate a firearm and/or hunt? And so on..... The caliber of the rifle is a question to be asked late in the decision making process. Evaluating the child/minor's ability to understand the significant responsibilities of properly handling a firearm and to ALWAYS follow the safety rules (that should NEVER be broken) is the first and most important step that any responsible adult should take before even thinking about introducing a child/minor to any object capable of lethal harm.

                          • I think a water pistol would be a good start for a child. BUT you American's cannot be trusted with real guns!! You seem to have an affinity for shooting up your loved ones, neighbours, schools, cinemas and anything else that gets in your way!! Have a nice day, don't pull the trigger, stop, think and lay down your arms!! No the guns, silly American, not your actual arms!!!!

                              • As an australian in a state where the health department of our government tried to outlaw teaching kids martial arts.... Everyone flabbergasted at this thread needs to calm the -blam!- down. The vast majority of americans dont hand their 7yr old kid a .22 and say "here you go son, shoot that deer" The vast majority of parents do the same thing with guns that a blackbelt in martial arts does to their students. They teach Discipline Form Respect Control as the fundamentals so nobody gets hurt. "Dont point it at people or pets, make sure the safety catch is on son, is it loaded? Are you standing correctly? How many shots do you have left? Got your ear protection on?" Thats what parents do. Only an idiot gives a kid a firearm without any clear instructions. And its certainly more dangerous for a child to have no experience with guns. Curiosity killed the cat right?
