You should get him something a little less dangerous yet easier to hunt with, like brass knuckles or a butterfly knife

The OP said "only one that could take down a whitetail." Please quit saying ".22" (I'm sure you are meaning .22 LR). Op feels that the child is ready to start hunting big game. If this post was about a good starter car, I wonder if we'd keep seeing "power wheels".

.22 ling rifle might be good. That was the 1st gun I shot. Not a lot of kick, single shot. Not a bad gun.

Use a little .22 rifle. That's what I was taught on. Super cheap, super easy to hold, super easy to fire. Just make sure you educate your child on gun safety and don't listen to the liberals that don't understand proper gun education means everything.

Well anything above a .22 is just not right for a child.

4 RepliesThere is a very good reason for why gun laws exist in America. Yeah, don't give your kid a gun until they turn 18. I don't want to read on the news headlines that a kid ended up shooting themselves and got hospitalized because of curiosity.

My first gun was a 20 gauge semi shotgun. I wasn't very strong at the time, to the automatic pump really helped me. It would have been too hard for me to pump the gun after each shot.
