Rift for Iron Banner. What an absolute joke.
The Taken King expansion for me, as for many, has ruined my overall Destiny experience. I've stopped playing altogether, except for Iron Banner.
Thanks to Rift getting the nod as the next game mode, it looks like my break between playing Destiny will be even longer this time around.
While Control had its difficulties in holding the lead without a proper team, solo players winning Rift matches will prove to be a feat far more impossible.
Attempting to gain control of the Spark, defending the runner, and defending against the opposition all take increased communication when compared to Control. Defending the runner, especially.
To this day, there are many players who still do not comprehend how to most effectively win a Control match, and I promise you far less are used to working towards winning Rift matches.
Teams of solo players will be annihilated. The mercy rule will be applied left and right.
This matters in Iron Banner.
Teams which lose within the event gain no reputation towards their end goal. Players must win in order to accomplish anything in Iron Banner. Solo players simply won't be able to do it anywhere near as much as they could in Control or Clash.
Why would solo players commit any of their time to wasted efforts? The drop-off rate after day one will far surpass that of any other Iron Banner event in the past. It's simply not worth the struggle.
So my question remains: does Bungie really mean to eliminate the idea of playing solo altogether, or do they truly not understand their own game?
Leave your thoughts below. Will you be participating in this Iron Banner or not? Even if you will, would you prefer Control or Clash? Is Rift something you're actually looking forward to instead?

Edit: I said it below before but people didn't see it:
I used to have about 9 or so friends who I played Destiny with on a daily basis. Only one of them still plays Destiny.
My point, which an amazing number of people are missing, is that Iron Banner has been the only viable option for solo players to obtain top level gear in TTK, and Rift greatly eliminates that as an option. Not everyone wants to play with a group of strangers. Not everyone is able to play with groups.
Iron Banner has historically been a game mode in which both solo and team oriented players can earn top level rewards. Rift caters to fireteams more so than any other PvP game mode, and solo players will have a greatly reduced success rate within it. If Bungie wants to retain all of their player base, driving away solo players from the game mode that they can only look forward to once a month seems to be very counterproductive.

Destiny is best played with communication in every game mode with possibly the exception of Clash. It's a team game everywhere you look. If you want pure solo play then obviously you won't enjoy all this game has to offer. If you play enough with a mic you will make friends and be successful. But if you want to be a hermit go ahead, meanwhile me and my online friends will be dishing out mercies and completing flawless raids and trials.

2 RepliesI had 40+ people I could jump into a game with at any point since day one and they would welcome me happily. So many people I knew from all over played this game. I've witnessed every single one of them and more quit this game as time went on. Sadly, I've recently been slowly quitting as well.. I'm burned out. And I really don't want to be. The game sucks, which is pretty disheartening considering what kind of a game I thought it would be originally.

No where did bungie say that there game was made for solo players or even that solo play was encouraged. In fact they stress group play. You want to play solo buy a game that is solo.

2 RepliesDoes anyone know what's going to be sold during iron banner this Tuesday?

1 ReplyBungie logic: 1. Team modes where solo players have little to none (JiP's) input on the outcome of the match only reward wins. 2. SRL, where it's only down to your own personal performance, is 100 % RNG

3 Repliesif I look at the back of the package of this game I have it starts with a 1 meaning it should be a solo game with the ability of playing with more players. Bungie forgot that along the way to build up their playstation teams, due only to the fact that Sony is paying them more money than Microsoft cared to cater a traitorous Developer. Bungie really forgot the solo base. one of the many reasons this company will not get a cent more from me forever. I really hate the blowhards trying to push that this game was solely designed around constant grouping, that's why they had a difficulty adjustment when more players were added to a team year one but with year two they did away with that and basically had everything at a three player difficulty or higher to force the issue. but you desticles can say what you want to debunk me and I really don't care. shows how much people defend a dead game.

Edited by KimHasselager: 1/23/2016 3:41:07 PMYour rubbish if you cannot play rift solo. All you have to do is press lunch 😀😂 everyone joining can read the objectives and hope fully playstyle crucible. I 99% of the time play crucible solo and do fine... also you can reach rank 5 and get good gear regardless of win/lose - unless you always lose, which never happens

Lol even when I play on a fireteam, it's not always easy to get people to assist as they are too busy just trying to shoot enemies to stay alive, rather than defend the runner. However when it comes together, it's good. I love rift and I can't wait for Iron banner whether I play on my own or as a team.

4 RepliesStop bitchin, people were complaining about control being the only playlist in IB, but now it's changing people just wanna bitch bitch bitch. Its a TEAM based playlist, find a team and stop bitchin.
-
So use your mic. It's there, it works fine, all you have to do is use it.
-
I have plenty of people trying to add me to their IB team, but I just hate using a mic so I'll NEVER be a fireteam bro. I'm a silent player and I don't wanna even hear your voice while playing, I'd rather talk to and listen to what my lovely wife is saying.

Edited by Harry: 1/23/2016 9:57:36 AMSee, the thing is that if this were year 1, is have no problem with what DeeJ said about playing in groups. However, I'm lucky if I have 3 friends on Destiny out of the 100 others that I've either added or played with before. It's pretty hard to get a group when all your friends have gone on to 'brighter pastures'.

Everybody knows that getting crushed in pvp increases your chances of loot :)
-
Bungie just wants to eliminate players from their game.
-
Omg 1 iron banner that u have a hard time soloing omg 1st world problems here guys
shush its a multiplayer game not solo
I like to play solo on IB. Just gotta watch the roster screen during matchmaking. If you see a big fireteam hop in, get outta there and rejoin matchmaking again. Takes longer to find a game but you don't spend time tearing your hair out in frustration. People on fireteams are connected through a black bar on the right side of their names.

2 RepliesWhat ruined destiny for me was the light level crap. They went from such a good and basic system to the crap we have now.. The fact I can't use my year one class items which look pretty cool (VOG Class Items for example) without loosing light level annoys the hell out of me & the grind, my god.

8 RepliesThis game wasn't meant for solo players. I don't think you understand their game.
-
Bungie don't know shit from shinola about their, I mean Activision's game!!!

Why so many tears on the forums this week?

3 RepliesJust played 4 games of rift solo with randoms. Won all 4 .. calm down the world isint ending . Adapt

4 RepliesHere's an idea...make some friends. What fun is the game without someone to play/chat/mess around with?

Whilst I agree that rift favours fireteams more than other game modes, as long as the same number of solo players take part as usual then in my experience most games should still be solo and pairs only. I probably came up against a 5-6 MSN fireteam once every 5 matches at most. As long as that trend continues you can just take your medallion and put it down to experience when you are trounced by a team. If however solo players do try to find a team or pullout all together then that's another matter. I have thought about joining a fireteam but I already have a small clan of 3 but only one other plays pvp. Also my main concern with joining pvp fireteams is how forgiving are they if your at the bottom of the table? I am pretty inconsistent and can go from a 4.33 kd to a 0.4 over two matches

The point of Destiny in whole is to not go in solo. At least try it.
