Why do guys choose female characters? The REAL answer.
So, you're wondering why some guys choose to play as female characters.
Want the answer?
It's because this is a video game, and people do what they want to get the most enjoyment from a game.. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that [i]is[/i] the point of a video game... Right?
"You aren't a girl in real life, so why is your character a girl?"
Call it a hunch, but I don't think people can pull flaming revolvers out of the air and shoot fire in real life, either. But your characters still do.
Destiny is [i]not[/i] meant to be an accurate representation of the real world, for what I hope are obvious reasons.

simple in 3rd person view would you rather look at a guys ass or a female. also the big deal with petra and the queen is that they are 2 of the most seen female characters. Up until recently Amanda Holliday and Eris Morn had nothing special about them. No extra cut scenes or dialogue moments. We had a plain ole white chick and the emo girl. Petra and the Queen are confident strong female characters in the story. Sidenote: The love for the Awoken female is all bc of Mass Effect and Liara lol. Its ok to disagree, but thats why i love em lol

Titan and Hunter female just look better

My main is a male, if that means anything to an Exo, but my other characters are female. While messing about with the character creator I suddenly could see their entire history, personality and backstory in my head, and I had to pick them. In RPGs women are easier to roleplay because I have to work harder to put myself in their shoes.When its a male character, unless they are over the top in some ridiculous way it's easy to slip back into myself.

I created my hunter into a female because my girlfriend always hunts me down when I'm f'cken my side chick. But that never happens bc I'm always on destiny. And I don't have a side chick. I don't have a girlfriend either. :(

I like to pretend I'm a pimp and my 3 female characters are my stable. My Awoken Hunter definitely the most attention.

I posted this below but it got buried and I really want to know what ppl think. I'm playing devil's advocate on this one but... Your example of pulling out a flaming revolver implies this is a game only fantasy. I disagree... I would wager most players would give up their left pinky for super powers in real life. I would also bet that a large percentage of the player base would actually become an exo or awoken if that were possible. Does that also mean that those that play as opposite genders also would like that opportunity in real life? I dunno, just following the logic path of your argument.

I prefer the more slender look. For hunter I made a male. Only thing I regret is not making an exo as their original dance emotes are the best imo.
