SRL is ruining destiny
I'm not the best player, I haven't been playing for long, and my pvp k/d is crap. Any other negative about me that anyone has to say I really don't care.
So after getting that out of the way, I find it absolutely disgusting that anyone can go out and run a bunch of sparrow races and have high light level gear drop. What happened to earning badass gear with bullets, tactical skill, and teamwork? Sparrow racing killed it that's what. If you aren't skilled or at least persistent enough to finish raids or IB or Trials, you do NOT deserve gear above 300 light. Period. I know I'll get a lot of hate for this post but seriously, -blam!- off. Case in point, if you're above 310 light without even one raid completion or having been to the lighthouse or haven't maxed out Iron Banner before, you're a garbage player and what's wrong with this game. Get out there and kill Oryx, wreck some fools in Trials, hold down your control points in IB, but mostly quit being a b**** getting spoon fed your light on the back of a sparrow.
Edit: You're all missing the point. It's a shooting game. Shoot to kill, kill to win. Racing belongs elsewhere and if they are going to give rewards for it then it should be shaders and custom sparrows at most. Bet most of you wouldn't do the racing if it didn't give you rewards.

I was 318 light b4 sparrow racing but i still play it because its something DIFFERENT for a change. You must not be good at it is why you dont like it...

I've been able to obtain 312 Light (could be higher, but infused some items and lost a few Light points) on my Hunter and I have yet to do a raid or nightfall. With 3 kids, work, coaching, night classes and many other activities, time for gaming/striking/raiding/nightfall-ing is very hard to come by. Also, I just merely enjoy the game and choose to engage in the relaxing parts of it. I'm not really into Crucible for the most part and I don't compare myself to any other players and/or care what gear they have and/or don't have or how they didn't/did obtain it. But my view, isn't one shared by everyone. I play the game to take a break and enjoy the actual game and facets of it that are exciting to me personally. The ability to obtain higher level/light gear in a relaxing way, is more than welcoming to me. I'm not in it for K/D or for bragging rights or to say "I have this and you don't" or to call out scrub or noob or to insult anyone's class/subclass preference. Nope, I just like to play games and escape the real-world grind for a bit...albeit with some virtual grinding thrown in there. Being that it is just a game, I am thrilled that Bungie added ways for extremely casual players, such as myself, to obtain better gear. Reaching 312+ pretty much 100% solo and without raiding, is a major grind in and of itself and for those that choose to do so...they surely have 'earned' their virtual rewards. Iron Banner and SRL, in my eyes, are wonderful additions to the game and really help out those that are under time constraints, when it comes to reaching higher light level. I personally think that, in general, SRL and the high light helmets/class items from (and IB gear) are fantastic additions to the game....because they are optional and an available, alternate choice for those that choose to take part in them. So to me they are more than welcomed to stick around-- even in a shooting game. If players don't want to participate, they surely don't have to and likewise, if they wish to...they have that option. As others have stated, as long as it's not something taking away from the game and it's progression in other areas, well I'm all for it. And it doesn't affect me at all if players get their high light gear from it or from the raid-- either way congrats to them and I won't judge.

Does SRL stop you doing anything you did before it came out? If not then who cares, what difference will it make to your game

It's only a helmet and class item....big deal. ....if weapons and all armor were dropping, then you would have a point.

It's hard to get over 310 light with only helmet and class items, which are THE ONLY armor drops you get from SRL. So your argument is pretty invalid.

I tend to agree with theory of your statement. Sparrow racing should not have similar benefits as fighting the darkness. Unless the opened a betting option where player 1 puts up an item, player to puts up an item and whoever wins race gets items while anything nothing changes hands. Or whoever places higher wins the items.

Or a Taken goblin that is hid behind a rock healing 4 minotaurs & a captain thats throwing orbs at you so you cant get close enough to kill the goblin which leaves you lobbing random grenades hoping to kill said goblin. Tactical Skill means nothing in destiny.

Considering EVERYTHING non-quest related you get in this game is either single or double RNG, your point is moot. No one "earns" anything in this game... it's all a gamble.

4 RepliesBungie has always added alternate routes for levels... light level isn't anything different. This gives a new or casual player a chance at [i]something[/i] that they didn't have before. Besides... It's not like it's dropping full sets of armor or weapons... it's only an odd helmet or class item here or there.

There are people that do not care for raids or Crucible.So it gives them a chance to get decent light lvl gear.You still have to put in the time,the grind, and still be at the mercy of RNG. Fair all round for everyone.

Destiny is not a shooting game. Don't compare it to CoD. This is an RPGish type game that can have whatever it wants. But that's beside the point. SRL only drops helmets and class items. The only way to get past 310 right now without raiding is to get 310 armor from the NF and have a 310 exotic and artifact and weapons. That's hard to do without the raid. Plus the only other thing you can do is Iron Banner, Trials, and SRL. Those are the only other opportunities for 310+ gear. Scenario time. Say someone did get 310+ without raiding. They got all their 310 legendaries from weeks of doing the NF they didn't once do trials or iron banner. Their current max light is 310 after a long time of grinding and no raid. They go into SRL and get a 320 helmet and artifact. That will raise their light to 312. If you [i]honestly[/i] care that someone who put a tremendous amount of time into the activities that don't drop 310+ and they started racing and got to 312 because of the drops from it, than you have issues. [i]Extreme issues[/i]. Muted for being an asshole to people.

Really? Over rank 4 still no 320 gear drops. Grind is worse than sword bs. So go cry elsewhere op its my money my time.

Rewards in racing are terrible too. I've done well over 200 races now and still haven't seen a 320 drop.

Well I'm at 305, and I've never done a raid or IB or Trials. I don't race either, but I attempt the nightfall every week and run about 20-25 strikes every week. So I'm not against their light being above 300+ but it should require some difficulty, instead of just racing
