I'm legitimately interested in how people would finish this sentence. So go ahead, give it your best shot.
The reality is that a new player skipping the early levels has exactly zero effect on your experience. Happy to be proven wrong on that but seriously doubt I will be.
Edit: Not surprisingly no one has been able to finish the sentence in a coherent way. At least in negative terms. A couple people have pointed out that it might affect them in a positive way. The Negative Nellies have two broad responses, both of which fail.
The question is how does THIS ITEM effect YOU.
All the Negative Nellies either say:
1. This item doesn't effect me but AN IMAGINARY FUTURE ITEM will effect ME. (Fail for introducing an imaginary item).
2. THIS ITEM doesn't effect me but it effects AN IMAGINARY PERSON. (Fail for introducing an imaginary person).
They really can't come up with a way that THIS ITEM effect THEM.
Edit 2: Oh! There's a new category of answer!
3. Because I leveled up the normal way THIS ITEM makes ME feel betrayed.
I guess it gets points for playing by the rules but it's just so sad. It's just too pathetic to actually merit a response.
Last Edit: It's nice that this got trending and that so many people appreciate that yeah, the buff has no effect on existing player. The sheer number of people unable to actually articulate a problem but just whining anyway is a bit depressing but what can you do?

Hey, just buy someone's account. You won't have to play at all. I frigging love when people pay more than the original price for something in the game. Effect...laughing at lazy lazy people. Effect

14 RepliesIt's affects me because people are feeding the thought that this is okay for Bungievision to do. The sheer price of a spark of light is enough to see a blatant money grab. I found the entire legendary edition of the game at walmart for cheaper than a spark. Between lack of content and shady tactics, I can't even bring myself to play for more than a few minutes if it even manages to get put in my ps4.
Dont feed the bears
People just need something to cry about. I almost prefer it to be this than the normal nerf cries.
-
Because Destiny sucks

1 ReplyWasn't this the same thing as Focused Light, that useless little doohickey that came with the Taken King Collector's Edition? Correct me if I'm wrong.

3 RepliesEdited by R merc G: 12/17/2015 11:05:37 PMIt affects me because I can now expect meaningful changes to leveling and progression to be sold as a "time saver" rather than just patched into the game. Bungie recognized that subclass leveling takes time and is selling a solution rather than just implementing one. I would not be surprised if we see "armor boosts" that will instantly level an equipped item rather than fixing bounty/MoL experience to accommodate the relatively slow leveling of armor. Edit: someone else linked this op-ed. A much more eloquent take. http://www.polygon.com/2015/12/16/10293298/destiny-leveling-bungie-taken-king-grind

It affects me by more mcfry boys whining about it
-
Great question. I wonder if anyone posted something I agree with. Probably not!

7 RepliesI could care less, but it amazes me that someone would pay to skip content. It isn't like there is an infinite amount of it in this game. The lower levels are supposed to be a learning experience. It's gonna be amazing to watch these noobs for awhile.

You are dumb.

2 RepliesEdited by jonb1388: 12/17/2015 10:15:03 PMThis is Bungie and/or Activision tricking new players into spending money on something they don't remotely need, cheating them out of half the game. That's my problem with it. It doesn't affect anything but the wallets of those who purchased it, but that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on a shady business tactic.
-
It doesn't affect me. At all. But the thing is, that the only one who will by that will be kids with thier parents card attached to their account. They won't understand that this is a trap until they finish first mission and get one for FREE. They don't realize that there's no need of this purchase, but they want to play with their friends as soon as possible. I think this is disgusting.

1 ReplyI don't understand why anyone is complaining about this. Takes ALMOST two whole days of casual playing to get to 25. Why would anyone waste their money? 95% of the fun is learning the class. "I just paid too much money to immediately jump 25 levels!" Yeah, and if you're a newer player then you have no glimmer and weapons either. Welcome to level 25, moron.

Well said.

For me it comes down to integrity. Stooping to these low tactics to soak money from new players shows a lot about the company that does these practices. I know a lot of other companies do the same but I choose not to purchase there items either. It comes down to being a smart consumer. If you feel like something is a rip off, don't buy it. If you don't like the way a company handles there business dont support that company. A good example of this would be Rogers communications in Canada. Probably the most evil, money grubbing bunch of liars I have ever dealt with. But if I stayed with them I had more than double the internet speed. I couldn't do it. As much as my speed sucks now, I know exactly what my bill is every month and I have MUCH better customer service. I feel a little better knowing I am not supporting them in a direct way.

It shows that a game company once respected is able to make a blatant cash grab and over price something useless and people will defend it. In b4 the "why do you care about how people spend money" ignorant argument shows up.
-
Because.... " When i was yur age, i had to level up by killin' shit n completin' bounties. Up hill, both ways, IN THE GOD DAMN SNOW" This is how i imagine most people when they complain about it... :)
-
It affects me because they will pay Bungie money to make content I'll get to play. Assuming that's how they'll fund it
-
It's ou to win that's why

22 RepliesIt's not the boost its the price. If bunjie sees people paying $40.00 for this lazy approach, what will stop them from deciding to charge $60.00 for the next expansion. The pricing of content is getting out of hand.

... I always need a reason to be upset with Bungie.
-
11 RepliesBecause it broke the social contract between bungie and veteran players

Any kind of shortcut to power should not be sold. Datto said this himself. I know that's not a great reason, but he is one of the more respected members of the community.

It may mean bungie introduces more content that needs to be paid for
