Edit: I am not attacking america I am also talking about the countries in the picture above
It's just complicating something that could be much easier
Water boils at 100c and freezes at 0c
1c=33.8f
10mm=1cm
100cm=1m
1000m=1km
(just for perspective 1m is 3.2 feet)
Also I want to mention kilograms and pounds
1000g=1kg
1kg=2.2 pounds
Edit: I have got the jist of why now thanks (it seems like people are unsure, it will cost to much or just lazy)
Edit: It seems like some people don't understand metric and how it's used in everyday life, you don't got into mm's and say 120.22 cm (in that case you would say around a meter)

Because it is far too late to switch to anything else. My body has already grown accustomed to what hiking a mile feels like.

Because talking about how hot or cold it is sounds way the hell cooler in Fahrenheit. Bragging about lifting at the gym is more fun in pounds. That and all the NASCAR fans would be horrified not talking MPH.

US military uses the metric system and the civilians use the stupid stuff

"Because here in America, we have better measureifacation systems. And anyone who doesn't is a communist al queda member who hates hot dogs and baseball" -George Bush

You can just say really cold, really hot, really short, really long, etc

Americans use farenheit because it's more realtively when refering to tempreature. The gap between 1 c and 2 c is too large. Fareheit scale is more precise for representing smaller increments.

Because my fellow Americans are ignorant.

Most Americans do realize the metric system is a better, more accurate, more intuitive, and more well thought out system. The problem comes in the amount of time, resources, and effort that would have to go into getting over 300 million people to make the switch to the metric system. Most people are taught Celsius and the Metric units of measure in school but without everyday use outside of school it becomes something people see as unimportant/useless and over time they forget or they never bother to fully pick it up in the first place. All the road signs, mile markers, and any tools relying on the imperial system of measurement would have to be replaced and the cost of this along with the difficulty of getting people to use a new system is why some countries, like the U.S., don't make the switch.

It would be a really long, expensive process for the US to go metric. It is a better system though (I do prefer Farenheight though, the numbers describe the temperature better imo).

It's all relative

15 RepliesWhy? Why would America do something just because the rest of the world does? We're not like you. And why does it bother you so much, as a foreigner why do you care about anything that happens in the United States?

Americans use both metric and customary

2 RepliesThe real question is why people don't use Kelvin for temperature. It takes in account freezing, boiling, and absolute numbers. Negatives are very weird in Celsius.

Edited by Tuxx: 12/14/2015 7:21:06 PMIt's just more fun to say I have a foot long schlong than to say I have a 30.48 centimeter cock, and it's easier for the ladies to know what they're getting into.

2 RepliesIn the US, we actually use both. Imperial, metric; i have tools for each system. Why don't you use both?
