With the December nerfs incoming, Sniper Rifles need a rebalance

Nerfing the 2 most reliable counters to sniper rifles, notably shotguns and Pulse Rifles, will make it as such that Snipers will have an overbearing map presence. Sniper rifles will need to have new mechanics added to compensate for that. Be it descoping when getting shot (you know, like this one unknown and irrelevant shooter does for decades now. I think they call it Halo), having innate sway and forcing you to hold your breath or something similar. Massively increased zoom sizes across the board and the removal of the 0.5x scopes could be another option as well. Nerfing PRs will have a net increase of TTK as a consequence. Giving snipers even more time to get a kill, even though they messed up. This gets worse, given the fact that PRs now will have significant damage drop off as well. Significant as in, finally noticeable. Auto Rifles will not be in a state to compete with Snipers given the numbers, and the only semi reliable (the rest was unusable) Handcannon to do so, the Hawkmoon, will get a huge nerf to the range and lucky bullets. I absolutely see nothing that would allow primaries to meaningfully compete with sniper rifles, when the next round of nerfs come in December. So I basically demand Bungie to be proactive and nerf sniper rifles or add mechanics in advance that will help to balance them, instead of waiting until March to nerf them into oblivion.

  • I definately agree man.. pulse rifle also seem to be the best archetype to cause flinch. Another counter to snipers is therefor also nerfed. I use a fast fireing scout rifle (same as mida) with high caliber rounds and I still get sniped in the head in between bullets that is hitting the sniper straight in the head.. come on..

      There are no 0.5x scopes what the hell are you talking? Shortgaze and ambush have a 3x scope and those are the lowest zoom scopes. [spoiler]If you think pulse rifles should compete on long range you are stupid.[/spoiler]

      • Just because you suck with a sniper doesn't mean it should be nerfed. Maybe high fire rate snipers shouldn't be a two shot but thats all they should add really.

        • You havent actually said whats op about sniper rifles. Just because everything else is shit doesn't make snipers op - they have barely been adjusted since day 1. That just goes to show how much theyve watered down everything else.

            • I'd like to see a hold breath mechanic and maybe flinch a little more, because now I can unload into a sniper with a hmg and they still line up a headshot.

            • Honestly they should just remove spawning with special ammo and make the crates spawn less often. [spoiler]and remove regenerating ammo in PvP so that it won't mess with the above change.[/spoiler]

              • Couldn't agree more. I don't understand why they chose to hit pulse rifles so hard instead of buffing the other 3 primaries. They keep nerfing our best primaries, and people wonder why special weapons are vastly overused by the majority of players. Well duh! No primary weapon can compete. I can run around with a fast firing sniper and double tap body shot people all day before they can kill me with a primary, and I don't even have to aim. It's stupid.

              • Most of the time when I'm killed it's bc of some camping dick. At least when o got killed by a shot gun I could say "I have been outplayed by someone with a faster trigger finger" Now all I see is some dick camping in one tiny corner of the map, sniping anyone and everyone he sees. And of course, he's got at least one or more of his teammates helping him out. I'm not saying that sniping doesn't take skill. Bc it certainly does, sometimes. But if PvP is just going to turn into people becoming more sedentary than the average American, then I don't want to play PvP

                • I read a lot of these balance this balance that posts. I am still very confused. If everything were to be in "balance" why not just give us a wooden block that shoots a "bullet". That way it's all the same gun, does the same damage and it will come down to actual skill. This is what all of these people crying nerf for are actually asking for. Every gun has its strong point and every gun has its weak point. Learn them and use them to your advantage...no nerfing or buffing required.

                    • Snipers need increased ready time, and increased ads time. A sniper is meant to be used at farthest range, and take time to aim. Not to 360 yolo quick scope.

                      • People who can't snipe call for nerfs. People with sub 1 kds call for nerfs. It will never end. My solution to people having problems with snipers. Snipe them back. Flank them. Use gun skill. Op you're the plague that messes up this game.

                        • The sway and breath idea don't really work with the game, exos don't need to breathe and they could lock their arm which would nullify sway. Guardians themselves are also reanimated corpses. In a game of space magic and aliens I don't think realism is really what they were going for here...

                          • Why are snipers OP? 1 shot headshot, 2 shot body shot. That's how the format for nearly every sniper in every game has been. If someone could please let me know what's wrong with them, I'd appreciate it. They work like a sniper should be. Unlike shotguns whose range should be no where near how it is now.

                          • Why should a naturally lower range weapon like an auto compete with a sniper? In close quarters how well can a sniper deal with auto? You're talking about situational things and the natural plus and deltas of a weapon class. Its not apples to apples. You might as well be saying all weapon classes should be the same. Should getting shot descope you? Technically yes, but in halo you also get a small reticle when you aren't scoped, I use snipers alot, I don't really care if they get nerfed, but you gotta think about this stuff man. You might as well say shotguns need more range to deal with snipers.

                            • Lmao snipers haven't changed since year 1. Only reason so many people complain is because shotguns were nerfed so everyone switched to sniper. If the snipers are exactly the same, just more popular does it really deserve a f[b]u[/b]cking nerf?
