SHOTGUNS
Our last few attempts at curbing the lethal range of shotguns have made some dents in the legacy of The Felwinter Times, but currently there are still weapon builds that can kill at surprisingly long range (albeit less reliably). We are hitting range again in the form of damage falloff, but we’re also turning the focus to other ways in which shotguns can be lethal. Long range shotgun builds now call for more challenging sacrifices on other weapon stats: Stability, Rate of Fire, Reload, and Handling.
Goals:
•Shotguns are most effective at very close range
•Complements melee attacks and other close-quarters class builds
•Offensively closing on an enemy with a Shotgun is a risk/reward timing game
•Reduce weapon agility so that CQ combat is more deliberate.
Changes:
•Reduce starting damage falloff to match melee lunge ranges.
◦Low range stat falloff starts at standard melee lunge.
◦High range stat falloff starts at Blink Strike lunge.
•Final damage falloff distance extends 0.5 meters longer for a smoother drop.
•Slower ready/stow times for all shotguns.
•Additional recoil across the entire Stability stat range.
•Slower reload speed across the entire Reload stat range.
•Slower time to Aim Down Sights for all shotguns.
•Slower base movement speed when Shotguns are the active weapon (Walk, Run and Aim Down Sights. Sprint is unaffected.)
•Add 2 frames delay when firing out of sprint.
•Increase base damage against AI combatants to 1.6x (was 1.55x).

And you know what, the nerfs for shotguns still won't stop, I'm calling it now.
Hope you enjoy it.
Well, back to my fusion rifles, shotguns won't even be a challenge anymore...
edit:
You know, I made a call months ago in Year 1 saying that people won't stop crying until shotguns are nerfed to oblivion. After reading these comments, looks like I was 100% correct, people crying out "death to shotguns" or "just remove them" have proven my point. Shotguns and snipers were the main uses in pvp, now that shotguns are crap no one will use them, that will just leave snipers unopposed. I can't believe I was proven right.
It will no longer be difficult to kill a shotgunner or feel satisfaction for outplaying them. It will not even be interesting to fight them knowing they can hardly fight back, no challenge, no threat. I have never enjoyed using special weapons anyway, just wanted everybody to use their primaries. Oh well, I lost nothing, can't say the same for others though.
edit:
If you want my own opinion about this nerf, fine, I'll try to make it brief.
I believe that this nerf is kind of lazy, instead of nerfing the shotguns with the longest range, bungie nerfs them all. How many people use the low range shotguns anyway? Everybody goes for the shotgun with the longest range, so how about reducing the maximun range shotguns can upgrade to. Remember the Lord of Wolves? Maybe let that be the max range for shotguns. Or just reduced the options of extending its range. What I see this nerf is going to do, it is going to force players to completely disregard any shotgun with low range and only go for longest ranged ones, less diversity.
But that doesn't matter anymore, my opinion won't change anything. Bungie's decision is set and nothing will change it, just accept it and adapt. Still feel sorry for those few shotguns people never used because of their range and impact, they will never be touched.
edit:
I'm going to be calling them confetti cannons once December hits.
edit:
The shotgun nerf has come, they are so weak now.

1 ReplyDoes anyone remember back in the Beta and early weeks of release when Fusion Rifles absolutely dominated the Crucible?
-
Shotgun nerf + imminent sunbreaker nerf + peregrine greaves yr 2 = shoulder charge class builds return. Can't wait to shutdown all the bladedancers, Sunsingers, ward of dawn runners, stormcallers, and even maybe the occasional sunbreaker or Gunslinger shutdown.

Chaperone. Use the chaperone
-
Nope they'll still be really good, because most people try to rush with snipers likes its COD. It's really not the shotguns too much it's more of the players who rush with long range weapons

Rise of the Fusion Rifles

1 ReplyIf conspiracy theory cant one shot then everyone will start using things like invective & strongbow. How long till those 2 get nerfef?
-
Game developers need to come up with a weapon type to use instead of shotguns so they can create an entirely new expectation out of them, and then balance them properly without making them "not shotguns"

Pro predict the future skills bro
or anyone with half a brain could see it was going to happen
5 RepliesHope you guys realize this new patch will make PvP incredibly unbalanced more so than it is now. Fusion rifles are already good (if you have a good roll) and they're going to be extremely op. I can already see the plethora of threads now.

Edited by ManYouForgot: 11/25/2015 2:14:31 PMI never liked high impact slow rof shotguns (which were the ones everyone says was op Felwinters, party crasher, etc) I've always rocked my The Crash (FWC and it has my favorite perk +1 agility) it's a low impact with a much better rof about 3x better but you had to close in like crazy to kill them or finish off with melee. I could slide and shoot/melee a whole room dead in seconds. (Especially with backstabber) It's a shame apparently all shotguns will suck now

Givem hell!! :-D
-
I honestly would have liked it better if they just nerfed special ammo again. Snipers are just as bad right now.....
-
Most crucible players use their secondary far too much. It makes the gunfights almost non existent. You're either getting your head wopped off from someone across the map or getting a face full of buckshot from someone flying over your head. If they limit the special like the heavy it would be a whole new experience

Your Welcome =)

I love this patch
-
2 RepliesYea it's sad! They already took a huge hit and this nerf should kill them completely.
-
7 RepliesYea, sharded most of mine after the announcement. It's not like they will be buffed in future...nothing ever gets buffed in this game.
-
I disagree with you.
-
2 RepliesI like how every sniper complained about shotgunners using shotguns as there primary the whole game, but for the most party they do the same with their snipers, camped in the back.
-
aside from the occasional idiot commenting on salt its nice to see some people actually care about balance and not just they're favorite gun , unfortunately I believe this company doesn't really understand balance and uses it for an excuse to keep us on this endless gun quest because they only care about how much time we spend in game not if we are having fun

2 RepliesWhat's this? What's this? There's nerfing everywhere What's this? There's salt floating in the air What's this? I can't believe my eyes I must be dreaming wake up Sw1mb0y this isn't fair! What's this? What's this? What's this? There's something very wrong ? What's this? There's people crying salt What's this? The forums are lined with little creatures whining Everybody seems so angry Have I possibly gone daffy? What's this? What's this? There's children throwing salt-balls Instead of throwing likes. They're busy building enemies And no ones happy There's is salt on every window Oh, I can't believe my eyes! And in my bones I feel the coldness coming from inside Oh look, what's this? They're causing many nerfs! Unique..... They're gathering 'round a forum to together scream NERF! Making salt along the way........ *Full credit to an Elegant Kupo for giving me this idea.

3 RepliesHELL YES! Let the Primaries rise! I'm sick and tired of getting blown apart by that bullshit Conspiracy Theory D.
-
2 RepliesEdited by Ozamataz Buckshank: 11/23/2015 5:58:58 AMPeople abuse the power of snipers in pvp but nothing changes. Must be a bungo baseline at work.
-
1 ReplyEdited by Ugly: 11/23/2015 5:49:08 AMShotguns are SECONDARY WEAPONS. You can blame those people who abused them as primaries for this.
-
2 RepliesNo one likes over used over powered secondaries in any FPS. Until you start with only primary ammo and secondary and heavy are timed drops nothing will ever be balanced and people won't be satisfied.
-
3 RepliesEdited by Tragedy: 11/21/2015 4:47:44 PMThere needs to be less ammo drops as well, we need more gun battles in destiny instead of shotgun, snipers! Every game should take a measure of skill instead of the No Skill bullshit we have now! Hi I'm gonna run around the map and use my shotgun as my primary! Hi I'm gonna stand at the back of the map and use my sniper to kill you because I'm a beast with aim assist! The Crucible is broken! Bring back the 1v1 gun battles that we had in halo games, your stick skills vs Mine!
