#destinytruthcast: An open letter to the Destiny community.

Greetings fellow Guardians. Some of you may already know about this from posts by War Priest and others, and to those who've watched and supported it we are deeply grateful. For those who haven't seen or heard about it, I would like to take this opportunity to talk about this project and how it was formed. Over the past few months, I was told many times that I should start a YouTube channel. I thought about the idea and although I'm a longtime musician, I didn't really have any experience with video. Then one day I wrote a Destiny parody song and decided to try to make a video for it. Although it was pretty rudimentary, the response was overwhelmingly positive and I decided to get a capture card and try to make some real game videos. It was a very interesting experience as it ended up leading to me learning how to essentially rebuild a computer from scratch to get the capture software up and running, but the destination has been well worth the trip as I've found that, though much more time consuming, video editing is just as fun and rewarding as songwriting and recording. It's also led to me learning to do some music editing tricks that I'd never have tried otherwise :) After I put up a couple videos, I was approached about fronting a podcast. At first I didn't have any real desire to do it as just making videos was so time consuming, but the idea of what it could be started to grow on me. Unfortunately my vision of a community based podcast that brought in different members to participate in fair and balanced Destiny debate was not what they were after. I'd already talked to War Priest about hosting (as his weapon etching video he'd put up was so amazing and creative) and we decided that the two of us would try to go forward with the community podcast idea. The first thing we agreed on is that the podcast would never be monetized. The goal was to give the community a greater voice than just posting on the forums and to make this as much the community's as ours. That led to this general mission statement.
#destinytruthcast is a podcast for the Destiny community by the Destiny community. It is a non-monetary channel created with the intent of giving everyday community members a greater voice to let the developers know their thoughts and opinions of the game. The intent of this podcast is to neither build up nor tear down the game, but to offer up fair and honest opinions of what works, what doesn't and what the community would like to see in the future.
Although we'd originally planned on recording the first episode before TTK released, life ended up happening. War Priest was unable to record for a few weeks and I've been busy being banned from the forums for most of the last month. There has been a lot of turmoil since this game released and there continues to be, but one thing that is indisputable is that when we stand together and we support each other, we have been able to make genuine positive change to not only the game itself, but to how Bungie approach and interact with us. I have been extremely fortunate to have had a level of support from this community that I never could have imagined and you have given me a voice on these forums to try to better this game. It is something that I have never taken lightly and which comes with a responsibility to try to represent to Bungie what it is we as a community want this game to be. I have come to consider a great many of you friends and there is no way that I could ever truly repay all the kindness and support that has been shown to me by this community, but the #destinytruthcast is my attempt to not only thank-you, but to pay that gift forward. Since War Priest and I decided we'd try to make this a reality, we have assembled a panel of community members consisting of CarnivalLaw, WoundedBdgr0317 (Old Badger) and J Stevensontown to discuss the state of the game. Although the first episode is general Destiny discussion, we hope to focus on community topics in future episodes through your questions, comments and posts concerning your feelings for Destiny and what it does well and what it can do better. If the #dtc is a success and this is something the community wants to support and be a part of, we also still hope to invite a different community member to participate in each episode and talk Destiny with us. Thank-you very much and we hope to hear from you in future episodes because your voices matter to the success of this game. -Lost Sols

      • While I respect Sols for his truth telling. Bungievision has sold their souls to the Asstivision business model. They've completely decimated the reputation they built as the developer of Halo. They've abandoned everything that made them relevant. No matter how much talking goes on, Bungievision will continue down this destructive path. The only way they will make anything resembling useful change, 's if their bottom line is threatened. The only thing that they really seem to care about. Sadly, there are not enough players who have enough self control, enough desire for change that they will make the stand.

                    • After, emphasis after, this game gets a ton better, then I'll consider playing again. And if it stays as bad as it it, not a problem, I'm using the money on better games (it isn't hard)

                      • Not trying to be rude but this really just looks like your groups attempt to stay popular and make money off the community. It appears that you're not really worried about the truth because the podcast includes only people that are in your group of friends and we've all seen on here that you never disagree about issues or perceived issues about the game. Add someone outside of your group to this thing that has opposing views or just general community members outside of your group. Also, it's not bad for a first time but there were some issues with audio that may need to be tweaked, I don't know video making so I'm not sure how to fix it but I couldn't hear certain people at times.

                        • It should make for a nice hobby for you guys but I don't get how it's giving the community a voice or represents to bungie what the community wants seeing there is no certainty that Bungie will even view your podcast and as respected as you all claim to be 4 or 5 members aren't really the voice of the community, like I said nice hobby for you guys though it should give you some sense of fulfilment.

                        • This is something usually I'm accused of...So I consider myself an expert lol. But this isn't game/company feedback...And perhaps belongs in #Destiny? Now don't get me wrong, as after seeing your advertisement I'm interested in hearing your opinions on a Pod cast...Just not sure it's the right place for it here.

The following are simply foundations of examples I've seen pertaining to "motives/scrutiny". I can see no particular reason why I couldn't address these while I'm at the train station, so I can sum it up.
You are all friends. So you will never disagree with each other.
On a literal level, it is very easy to be critical of any group that has a goal. When the ball gets passed, it's in the air, it can be caught or fumbled, if it's caught you can be protected or unprotected, if not protected you can be tackled, and if not tackled and you're free and clear you can fumble or fall. It's not about agreeing or disagreeing, it's about every persons opinion being respected because when related and relevant has merit. Which is why during the podcast you'll have witnessed "I can understand that view, point of view, or standpoint, or that". Because it's a point of view that is independant from yours. And it exists whether or not you disagree. Podcast example: Gjallarhorn topic "...if you're a developer would you want to be the developer who says we are tired of designing bosses around one weapon that happens to kick its ass". Despite that discussion where we agree, we are more than capable of recognizing the standpoint of a person not in our discussion because that person who isn't there has a standpoint with merits. It's easy to be critical of any group anywhere, I'm critical of Bungie a ton. But you still heard the standpoint of being a Dev on their team in defense of a choice they made that I myself and the DTC could agree on. So despite our agreement, there wasn't any disagreement on the statement of a Dev who disagrees. We aren't going to disagree for the sake of just disagreeing. If we disagree it'll be respectful, which btw, it's about respecting a destiny gamers point of view about "Destiny". Other podcasters can fight over who is right or wrong when it comes to a viewpoint. This is about respecting that viewpoint on its merits, because it justifiably exists.
This is just a bunch of guys trying to scam money
It's not uncommon to see this response in retrospect of a statement made by us when we say "we are non-monetary". And honestly, I'm skeptic all the time of that statement. I worked with lawyers and law related cases for four years. And the one thing that was so easy to do is plant the seed of doubt over something that hasn't grown yet. Why? Because we aren't going to be publicly posting our yearly tax returns or private bank statements. So as easy and non expensive as it is to make the accusation that the DTC is lying about being non monetary, I don't see any evidence it is "monetary". So I welcome any community to go on YouTube and look. You won't find any truth in it being monetized. So unless you've found evidence to the contrary, I can understand the skepticism at this juncture. However at this juncture any accusation it is monetary on a literal level has zero merits. It's not. And you are invited by me to prove it is. Because it isn't. Again, I can understand the skepticism. I however, know it isn't monetary. Btw... if you find what I call "an absolute"(undeniable truth), let me know. Because anybody can load up an excel spreadsheet to a public domain HTML created all-public-access page with numbers they type up and photochopped pics of things that didn't happen next to numbers pulled from the air to undermine what they decide to "hate" (general example). I've seen it. Doesn't make a lie true, just makes a person look desperate.
Boot lickers, turncoats, and traitors
If you are an individual who does not have the moral and ethical capacity and character to know the difference between "your own decisions being made by you" and "letting others make your decisions for you", the DTC is definitely not for you. It is about the real community contributing feedback, understanding that feedback, and getting it out there with the merits it stands on. If you cannot for the life of yourself be honest (hiding your own in-game progress via fake accounts and claiming things to downplay others truths is an example) about where you stand on your own decisions, I recommend you travel that road of hypocritical anonymity alone and without the DTC. The DTC is about community that stands for something to contribute and offer to Bungie a source of feedback you can't witness on the forums. It's about openly putting your feedback into a context that can be respected. It's about a great many things. But what it's not about is spending more than 30 minutes waiting for a train in the rain, fielding "what ifs" more than once a week. It's cool if the DTC isn't for you. Even if it isn't, and you are a real feedback contributor on the destiny forums, as much as it is a shame to not have your feedback I can understand your viewpoint/s and concerns. But I'm not going to disagree with your viewpoints and concerns. You are entitled to believe what you choose. You have your reasons and are entitled to your opinion. The larger scale is undeniably truth: You can focus a discussion on a disagreement in brush strokes, or you can recognize the focus on the bigger picture. Disagreeing with you doesn't disprove where you stand, and how you see things. It simply respects what you think because it is. Which good for you if you stand for something. That's more than I can say about a great many on here who stand for nothing. -Peace Later people, train is about here.
