After a full year, an OG decides to leave Destiny behind.

Before I write this, I want to make one thing clear: this entire story of mine is going to be heartfelt. It is going to be respectful and refrain from profanity. I only ask that if you are going to comment or share an opinion, to do the same. Hey fellow Guardians. I'm Tyler. I picked up my Destiny edition white PS4 just under a year ago. I had no idea what Destiny was, save the E3 jokes about it taking forever to release. I set the game aside and began playing 2k as any college student would. As soon as my friends learned of my recent purchase, they told me to jump on Destiny immediately; to join their fireteam! (Whatever that was.) And so, in complete unbias and with zero expectation, I began my Destiny journey, literally the week after Xur sold Red Death for the first time. I missed launch, yes. But my friends said it was no big deal. "You'll get a 'Gjallarhorn' in no time!" they told me. Whatever Skyrim-sounding terminology they were reassuring me with went right over my head. Becoming Legend for me started out as a Hunter. I could throw knives and move around fast. Badass. Crucible sucked. What was a shoulder charge and how do I use it? How does that Warlock's health go back up so quickly? All I can do is run fast and shoot 3 fiery bullets... I thus began a Titan. And I fell in love. They were the Crucible bullies of Vanilla Destiny. Bullet spongey. Fist of Panic-ey. It was just all so aggressive to use a Titan, and so it stuck. But I also loved the Titan for another reason: the Defender class. You see, when I play a game, I am entirely team-oriented. I want to provide my team with as much help as possible. I want them to look to me when we're in a pinch. Not to expect some headshot sniper wizardry, but maybe some overshields, or some buffs that make their guns hit harder. I loved that. I loved keeping my team alive, and making them stronger in the process. I played Destiny for a long time; became familiar with the mechanics. Acquired all the best gear after merciless grinding. As soon as I stepped foot into the Vault of Glass, I was hooked. I was addicted. This was too fun. Me and five of my bros had to communicate and overcome various stages and bosses to acquire the best gear the game had to offer. This game was amazing. I would play for hours, mesmerized by the glow of my television, long after my roommate had fallen asleep. And it happened again. And again. And again. Another raid! More Iron Banners! More DLC! A prison of baddies! Trials! Oh how I loved Trials! I did it all. I've done it all. Besides maxing out my grimoire, I've done everything there is to do in Destiny. I've had countless moments of throwing my hands in the air and cheering and met some of the coolest people in the gaming-verse. I wouldn't trade some of my experiences for anything in the world. Destiny brought so many things into my life. It brought senses of accomplishment that I have never felt while playing video games. I am an outdoor enthusiast and avid basketball player. Destiny brought me back to the video game world, and showed me that it can be just as rewarding as climbing a mountain or putting up game-winning shots. I forgave Bungie time and time again throughout my journey. I forgave them when my account randomly lost an exotic. I forgave them when they kept Gjallarhorn from me until TWO days before Xur sold it again. Cuz it was just a game. And I loved it no matter what happened really. And then The Taken King happened. I was so excited when that first cutscene flashed onto my screen. Bungie is trying! They're actually trying! Look at this! There's actual character personality and depth to the universe! It was great. It really was. But then... I can't use any of my guns? Really? Every single gun I've collected and cherished is now useless? Okay... shrug it off, whatever. Look at this totally cool blue gun that is now better than your beloved Gheleons. The problem with The Taken King is the new way that Light Score works. Every lvl 40 legendary has a chance to roll on a damage/armor rating of 280-300. And the new shiny raid gear rolls 300-310. This system has shattered the game for me. I don't care about being max lvl of 310. The closest I can get with my Titan as of right now with my complete raid armor set is 308. What bothers me is it's all left up to RNG for those 300-310 rating rolls. If I have a piece of crucible gear that I like quite a lot for the perks, I have to run the raid multiple times, pray for that specific item to drop, then infuse it into the crucible gear. And even then the ~280 piece of gear that I infused with my ~305 raid gear is now just an exhausted ~286. And I have to wait for next week to hope to get the same piece of raid gear to infuse it again. Getting a non-raid piece of armor to light 310 for Iron Banner is absurd. It's a new level of grind-and-wait that I've never experienced in Destiny before. You already took all my beloved year 1 guns from me, now you want more of my time for infusing? For trying to re-acquire all my old gear that had great perks? You're making me do everything I worked for again, but make it take twice as long for that one specific piece of gear? I'm sorry Bungie, I can't forgive you this time... For me, it's just time to put Destiny away. For good. Vault of Glass has no point now. Crota pointing me is just an excuse to help my friends get Nechrochasm. Everything about the Prison is now mute. The game became 1 dimensional, and the only beneficial thing to do is shoot Oryx with the Touch of Malice. I just can't do it anymore. I feel like they took the entire game from me and handed me one DLC to play. But don't worry, you can slow clap in Crucible now... The game's over for me, guys. I appreciate if you took the time to read this. I'd love to hear your thoughts. I just can't do it anymore. It's been such a good experience. But this Titan is too battered and bruised. I love this community. I love this game. But I don't love this DLC. Till the next time, guardians. I hope you all become legend. But the darkness has consumed one more. Guardian down.

  • To be fair this guy makes some good points. Used to always run the old raids and they are completely irrelevant. I have finished the raid 5 times and only use 2 toons so once I finish the raid now the week is done! Nightfall doesn't impress me anymore Running strikes endlessly never appealed to me Crucible is OK but I play alone so it's not as immerseive as a raid or even poe for me where I have to communicate with team mates BTW I got to rank 5 and was not impressed with the drops in iron banner at all. And buying stuff at 280 when I'm 304 is a kick in the nuts. Gave us a dlc and took away a game summed it up pretty well

    • Agree. They have 1 raid, and 5 strikes. Before the taken king, we had 2 raids, Etheric light, 10 strikes, and PoE.

    • This is a really nice little post so I'll refrain from being the jerk I usually am when I see stuff like this. Maybe your first paragraph got me. That being said, based solely on the passion you describe yourself as having for the game in Year One, I think you're making a mistake in the way you're viewing TTK, and I'm certain you're making mistakes in your quest for top-tier gear. First and foremost, infusing a 305 raid weapon into a 280 weapon is not a good idea. You want to slowly build the weapon you're trying to ascend; infuse it with a 285 first. And then a 290. And then a 295. You shouldn't drop that piece of 300+ gear into the weapon until you've raised its level to 300 or just below. With that in mind, you now have a reason and a motivation to keep your blue engrams. I have a vault full of blue stuff in the 285-299 range on hand so I can infuse them into gear I don't yet have but know I want to keep and use regularly. This actually adds to the meta. In the past, blue engrams were worthless. They weren't going to decode into something better than I'm already using, so they were quickly dismantled without a thought. Now, though, a good deal of those engrams are quite useful in my quest to 310. Ahh, the elusive 310. Yes, it's hard to get there. Yes, it's a grind, yes, it's a lot like starting over. But the important thing to remember here is that today's 310 isn't vanilla's 30. Vanilla's 30 was simple enough if you raided regularly and got the right drops. Today, reaching max light level requires the same kind of luck, but now you need to cover 10 item slots to get there as opposed to vanilla's 4. The thing to note here is that the damage curve is also different than vanilla. The difference between a 310 and a 290 is considerable. The difference between a 310 and a 302 is negligible. Those last 8 points are going to be a bitch, but for anything other than your pride and vanity, they're the least important 8 points you've had to overcome thus far. As the game sits right now, with hard mode raid yet to be released, anything more than 290 is plenty. Anything more than 290 is more than you'll actually need. You're ahead of the curve. You are the equivalent of a vanilla 29 and hard mode isn't even out yet. I think the importance of light level has waned since TTK launched but people are still so laser-focused on that aspect of the game that they've yet to evolve with Destiny and its vision for Year Two. I know it sucks that your favorite weapons aren't as effective as they used to be. I have favorite weapons, too. And you're right. They're terrible. And that sucks. But some of the new weapons are brilliant, and frankly, it's time for a lot of us to move on from our Fatebringers and Visions and old IB weapons. There's new stuff on the horizon and most of it is very competitive with its Year One counterparts. I totally understand the feeling when a game has run its course. Not everything is meant to be played forever. But the passion you have describing your introduction to Destiny and the experiences that followed make me wonder if perhaps you're jumping the gun a bit here because you're so shocked that all that experience was for nothing and now you're essentially starting over. Rather than quit, consider embracing the fact that Destiny is a unusually fresh title for something that's been out well over a year. That's all I've got. Enjoy your days, Guardian.

      • Lets do some math 308 - 280 = 28 infusion is about 80% so your gun would become 303 or 302 not 286

        • I can only hope they make vog ce and Poe relevant again Idk how they would but I know we would NEVER run out of things to do that's this games problem instead of adding onto the previous content and making a big game full of activities they just replace it completely and wonder why people complain about lack of content Ascension gave people a reason to run the old activities and they shouldn't have to done away with that now we have 3 end game activities useless and I can't understand how they thought that was a good idea

          • I don't understand how this is worse than year 1. You don't have to infuse the gear... you can just keep raid stuff. In year 1, there was NO option to make that sweet piece of crucible gear good enough... now there is and it has somehow broken the game for you? Destiny is still grind heavy, but I think the new system is light years ahead of year 1. I love that I'm raiding with guardians who are all wearing unique armor and using unique guns instead of just raid stuff. I'm happy I was able to get my hung jury up to 308 and use it in the raid. Got a raid scout and I haven't even tried it yet. I love my Hung Jury too much. If this was year 1. Hung Jury would have been ancient history when I got that raid scout... and that would've sucked. In short. I don't understand your point of view.

              • If you infused a 280 with a 305 it will go a lot higher than 286, and you got to 308 in 4 raids. I'm guessing you weren't in the forever 29 club, I didn't get VoG gloves on my hunter until I was already 32. Also, HM comes out in less than a week, 310-320 drops will make leveling things you like much easier. Most MMOs have gear resets and make old content irrelevant. You haven't even tried the other new subclasses...

I had personally liked the old light system. I thought it was unique, and avoided the grinding aspect of levelling that every other game offered . This new system is now exactly that. Grinding mechanics on steroids! Sure it's still fun, and may separate the higher percentile from the commoners. But I too see my days are numbered.

Stop needing attention you attention whore. for that is all these I'm Leaving posts are... attention seeking posts by little wannabe attention whores. You were not ever going to get to keep all your Y1 gear and have it be relevant in Y2.. so get over it.. this is how mmo styled games work and this game is a mmo styled game. Not their fault if you did not understand this...

                  • You're doing it wrong. You don't use a 310 weapon on a 280 to infuse it. That's moronic and your own fault. First of all you should have many blue weapons stocked up in the back ranging from 290-300. Any extra raid weapon you get should also be there. If you were buying 3 of coins you would be getting 310 exotic gear and 310 exotic weapons, all useful for infusing 300+. If you've farmed using 3 of coins then you most definitely have gotten tons of engrams for infusing 280 items to 300. If you just dismantled them willy nilly, that's because of your own stupidity. The light level is fairly easy to manage. If you do it wrong, however, it can be costly. I don't imagine you should be hitting 310 so soon though. The gear in hardmode will be dropping at 310-320, so you REALLY don't need 310. 305 is a more manageable number and seems more logical for Bungie to only expect a few to reach 305+ before hardmode. I am only 307 and I have done the raid every week. I have even used a piece of gear from my Titan and me Warlock to get my Hunter up to 307. If you REALLY want to get 310, you should level 3 Titans and run them each week. You will get 310 much faster. And then you don't have to worry about incompatible gear. Bye, though.

                    • Yeah man I get it. For me it was not the balancing or the nerfs, but the consistency of problems. The crucible is a primary fest, which isn't all that bad except for 2 stroke guns, Titans being spoiled, hunters glitching (even though I do it and teabag titans) these ranged shotguns that came in crackerjack boxes, honestly just everything. It dawned on me recently that Bungie makes this game for themselves. 1 week until Halo 5
