Before I write this, I want to make one thing clear: this entire story of mine is going to be heartfelt. It is going to be respectful and refrain from profanity. I only ask that if you are going to comment or share an opinion, to do the same.
Hey fellow Guardians. I'm Tyler. I picked up my Destiny edition white PS4 just under a year ago. I had no idea what Destiny was, save the E3 jokes about it taking forever to release. I set the game aside and began playing 2k as any college student would. As soon as my friends learned of my recent purchase, they told me to jump on Destiny immediately; to join their fireteam! (Whatever that was.) And so, in complete unbias and with zero expectation, I began my Destiny journey, literally the week after Xur sold Red Death for the first time. I missed launch, yes. But my friends said it was no big deal. "You'll get a 'Gjallarhorn' in no time!" they told me. Whatever Skyrim-sounding terminology they were reassuring me with went right over my head.
Becoming Legend for me started out as a Hunter. I could throw knives and move around fast. Badass.
Crucible sucked. What was a shoulder charge and how do I use it? How does that Warlock's health go back up so quickly? All I can do is run fast and shoot 3 fiery bullets...
I thus began a Titan. And I fell in love. They were the Crucible bullies of Vanilla Destiny. Bullet spongey. Fist of Panic-ey. It was just all so aggressive to use a Titan, and so it stuck.
But I also loved the Titan for another reason: the Defender class. You see, when I play a game, I am entirely team-oriented. I want to provide my team with as much help as possible. I want them to look to me when we're in a pinch. Not to expect some headshot sniper wizardry, but maybe some overshields, or some buffs that make their guns hit harder. I loved that. I loved keeping my team alive, and making them stronger in the process.
I played Destiny for a long time; became familiar with the mechanics. Acquired all the best gear after merciless grinding. As soon as I stepped foot into the Vault of Glass, I was hooked. I was addicted. This was too fun. Me and five of my bros had to communicate and overcome various stages and bosses to acquire the best gear the game had to offer. This game was amazing. I would play for hours, mesmerized by the glow of my television, long after my roommate had fallen asleep.
And it happened again. And again. And again. Another raid! More Iron Banners! More DLC! A prison of baddies! Trials! Oh how I loved Trials!
I did it all. I've done it all. Besides maxing out my grimoire, I've done everything there is to do in Destiny. I've had countless moments of throwing my hands in the air and cheering and met some of the coolest people in the gaming-verse. I wouldn't trade some of my experiences for anything in the world.
Destiny brought so many things into my life. It brought senses of accomplishment that I have never felt while playing video games. I am an outdoor enthusiast and avid basketball player. Destiny brought me back to the video game world, and showed me that it can be just as rewarding as climbing a mountain or putting up game-winning shots. I forgave Bungie time and time again throughout my journey. I forgave them when my account randomly lost an exotic. I forgave them when they kept Gjallarhorn from me until TWO days before Xur sold it again. Cuz it was just a game. And I loved it no matter what happened really.
And then The Taken King happened. I was so excited when that first cutscene flashed onto my screen. Bungie is trying! They're actually trying! Look at this! There's actual character personality and depth to the universe! It was great. It really was. But then... I can't use any of my guns? Really? Every single gun I've collected and cherished is now useless? Okay... shrug it off, whatever. Look at this totally cool blue gun that is now better than your beloved Gheleons.
The problem with The Taken King is the new way that Light Score works. Every lvl 40 legendary has a chance to roll on a damage/armor rating of 280-300. And the new shiny raid gear rolls 300-310. This system has shattered the game for me. I don't care about being max lvl of 310. The closest I can get with my Titan as of right now with my complete raid armor set is 308. What bothers me is it's all left up to RNG for those 300-310 rating rolls. If I have a piece of crucible gear that I like quite a lot for the perks, I have to run the raid multiple times, pray for that specific item to drop, then infuse it into the crucible gear. And even then the ~280 piece of gear that I infused with my ~305 raid gear is now just an exhausted ~286. And I have to wait for next week to hope to get the same piece of raid gear to infuse it again. Getting a non-raid piece of armor to light 310 for Iron Banner is absurd. It's a new level of grind-and-wait that I've never experienced in Destiny before. You already took all my beloved year 1 guns from me, now you want more of my time for infusing? For trying to re-acquire all my old gear that had great perks? You're making me do everything I worked for again, but make it take twice as long for that one specific piece of gear? I'm sorry Bungie, I can't forgive you this time...
For me, it's just time to put Destiny away. For good. Vault of Glass has no point now. Crota pointing me is just an excuse to help my friends get Nechrochasm. Everything about the Prison is now mute. The game became 1 dimensional, and the only beneficial thing to do is shoot Oryx with the Touch of Malice. I just can't do it anymore. I feel like they took the entire game from me and handed me one DLC to play. But don't worry, you can slow clap in Crucible now...
The game's over for me, guys. I appreciate if you took the time to read this. I'd love to hear your thoughts. I just can't do it anymore. It's been such a good experience. But this Titan is too battered and bruised. I love this community. I love this game. But I don't love this DLC.
Till the next time, guardians. I hope you all become legend. But the darkness has consumed one more.
Guardian down.

12 RepliesYou'll be back. I gurantee it. It's good to take breaks though. I took a two month break after TDB and it felt so great to come back. You will have that feeling again eventually. The reason they "took" all your gear away is because of a thing called power creep. Basically if you were to just have those guns forever that you love, you would never get anything new. Sure I miss my Icebreaker every now and then but I know there is going to be more out there. Here, imagine it like this. In the beginning of the game we were "evolving" and trying to obtain better gear to fight the darkness. Now in Y2 everything is stronger and we need to obtain better things, hence the new subclasses and new gear. That's just how MMO's work dude. You have to adapt to the new things around you.

1 ReplyFor all the advances of TTK, itemization and grouping are atrocious. EIGHT EXOTIC ENGRAMS today, and every one was 290. I'm 301. You'd think even one would be 310 and useable for infusion? And oh my God, where are the social features? What is a clan other than a bunch of people on your friends lists? Where the holy F is an in-game social/LFG panel? I guess on PS4 at least you can make "groups" and "communities" now, but that's just another EXTERNAL solution to something Bungie should be doing themselves.

3 RepliesInfusing bumps up your gears light level to 80% of the whatever you're infusing it with.

May you one day see the light of the Traveler again guardian. But until then, enjoy your rest. May it not be an eternal one.

2 RepliesLet's be real, they screwed up leaving behind so many y1 exotics for no damn reason: G-horn is one thing, QB bow and Sunbreaker gauntlets are quite another. They made ZERO alterations to 9/10 exotics to justify forcing players to get them again, only SUROS got a new perk tree and paint job, the rest were the same weapons they'd always been. But nope, gotta get em again, relevel them again, oh and this time we are removing some because -blam!- your progress we need you to pray we release more rehashed y1 gear next DLC all the way till destiny 2. Also cutting down on end game content for progression was a mistake. Many people still love the appearance of the VOG armors. Fatebringer et al was OP but the raids simply needed revisiting, not 'left behind' THIS ISN'T WoW WITH CRAFTING AND DUNGEONS AND TONS OF STUFF TO DO. We have a bunch of missions, a handful of strikes, and only 3 -blam!-ing raids. That ain't much. At all. HoW was a blissful time because while PoE sucked, there were lots of reasons to rerun old content and it was fun. (If you quit during HoW because it was 'too easy to max out' then no offense but 'maxing out to max out' just screams you play this game solely to feed your addictive tendencies and fun is incidental.) As for appearances, This 'seasonal' armor scheme where there are maybe 3-4 different looks per class despite the game having enough armor looks to have 25+ per class is pure shit and always has been. In any case removing raids for progression may work in an MMO with tons of stuff to do and lots of raids, but this game has a grand total of 3, no crafting, same old missions with skulls, etc. Making old activities irrelevant is a huge mistake if you cannot pump out content to replace them - and Bungie has proven that they simply cannot. But whatever. Their game.

5 RepliesYou are completely right. Before the taken King we had VoG, CE, IB,ToO, PoE, and ascension. Ascension was a much better system than infusion IMO because you could reach max lightlevel with whatever armor you desired and the system worked because ether if light was not easily obtained. You might could have maxed 3 different gear a week, but now, the only way to acquire max armor and weapons is the Kings fall raid, which is pretty much the only thing to do in the game atm...
-
I agree the game was fun but now the taken king has overtook the hole game, its to much waiting and to many caps. but halo 5 is coming out soon and when it dose I'm dropping this game like a hot potato. i think bungie dropped the ball with the last add-on.
-
I feel the same way and bungie are probably sitting there saying wait until the hard mode raid it will be awesome, NO just NO !! Bungie needs to STOP listening to their own team America hype bullshit, goodbye mate I never met you in game but you sound like a cool guy I would have enjoyed playing alongside RIP guardian and your ghost.

4 RepliesEdited by RandomMikael: 10/18/2015 11:47:24 PMI quit once back in January, after running Crotas End multiple times with my good pals. I got sick of it. The previous max level was 30, with Crotas End it was 32. What pissed me off a lot was that all my work in Vault of Glass, was IRRELEVANT. You could PURCHASE gear to be one measly level below max. I saw no reason to buy House of Wolves when you could just buy gear to be on level below the max. I said, "Forget it, I'll buy Destiny 2 and buy gear to be below max level!" I never looked back. I played Dying Light with my fireteam buddies who quit as well. Batman: Arkham Knight, the hidden gem Rocket League, The Last of Us, Evil Within, Outlast, Game of Thrones, God of War III, and the list goes on. I never looked back until my buddy and I discussed buying the DLC and becoming just casual gamers... I agree but only casual, because staying up all hours of the night playing for a chance at better gear was not good. Thus, started our journey. I fell in love with TTK. I preferred the new light and level system because it opened it up for more gear variety, etc. The story was attempted at being put together (although still shit). The Kings Fall Raid was probably the best experience of the DLC. However I'm stuck with this thought: How long will we be at max light level? Why grind now when in 6 months, 9 months a new DLC will come out and render most exotics and our max light useless? Touch of Malice? BYE! Black Spindle? BYE! Not carrying over exotics that people GRINDED MONTHS for was not cool. > "Everyone wants Gjallarhorn!" > "We cannot sell it, it is FAR to OP" >" How about we nerf the game breaking G horn and then sell it a short time later?" Bungie makes us play the game their way. I'd be scared to continue and collecting weapons when we don't know whats going to happen. So here I sit, today after running the Raid twice last week with no desire no play again. Yes, there are still exotics I want (Jade Rabbit and Zhalo Supercell) but I'm already light 307 and see no need to grind for weapons just to have them. Like you, I agree... Destiny was the pinnacle of online MMO/RPG/FPS game for me. However, I cannot continue playing when each DLC will be the same thing... there really is no sense of satisfaction or end game, but I guess thats the point. If I were to change anything it would be that all weapons can be made to be max light, and same for gear. Throw that in with transmog and I'd still be playing. Having a unique character would keep me in. ALSO, make VoG and C.E. playable again but with a higher option to get said weapons and gear back..

:( sorry you could not enjoy Gjally at its fullest for so long

Tyler, i just want you to understand I now how you feel, but I have accepted Destiny for what it has become. I know it's just a game, but I will always remember year one and it seem you will as well. Good luck Guardian, there are plenty of other great games out there! (Just don't pick CoD lol)

6 RepliesWhat a bunch of cry babies. Welcome to how MMo's work. You grind and grind and grind to hit max level, if you want but you can still do all content without being maxed. Just like other mmo's weapons and armor becomes useless once an expansion come out. Just like other mmo's they go through nerf/buff phases. QQ more people.

2 RepliesI feel the pain as well.. They literally just took 80% of this game and made it all pointless: The old raids, POE, year 1 weapons/armor, no more coins for weekly heroic... They could have had a masterpiece had they kept all the year 1 stuff relevant. Imagine how many weapons and armor you could choose from!!! We could have had major variety! Now everyone's going to be running around in raid gear with a few exceptions. Not to mention their new and improved "RNG" system just made it worse for me. I literally get NO legendary drops from strikes unless I run them at least 10 times. I have yet to receive any type of exotic from a nightfall and I've been RUNNING IT SINCE RELEASE. I am a 305 warlock and still receive tons of 290 exotics. Last week I had 40 3oc and literally got 4 "No Back-up Plans" at 290 IN...A....ROW. How is that even possible? I know you could say it's just luck of the draw, but there is a FINE DIFFERENCE in my luck since this update. It literally screwed any type of luck I had before. This update was just released last month and I'm already sick of running King's Fall raid. We don't even have 2 different raids to choose from anymore. I may be leaving as well if something doesn't change. Bungie sucks nowdays. They should have stuck with Halo. I'm going to laugh when their old masterpiece blows this game out of the water. Sorry if I just sounded like a little pissed off fanboy. But Bungie literally ruined this game for me. This new DLC is atrocious. I just speak from the heart as well because I truly loved this game before they butchered it. It's all now just a pointless, monotonous grind fest that literally gets you nowhere. Good riddance....
