These past few days posts here on bungie.net have been mostly, Sunbreaker OP, Sleeper Sim, and shotguns take no skill/snipers take no skill. Today I will focus on the Special weapons of the crucible.
First of all, shotguns aren't that OP, they require the user to close the distance, use cover and score the kill.
Snipers also aren't that OP, they require getting a first headshot before your opponent can land a single body shot and ruin your aim.
Now as I mentioned above, when you are sniping and getting shot with an Auto rifle/Pulse rifle/Scout rifle you have a very very difficult time trying to aim, and who wouldn't. If you are getting sprayed with bullets you probably wont be able to aim very well.
Now onto shotguns, when trying to close the distance, there are plenty of disorienting tricks to use, blink being the most used of course. Sometimes people don't even use blink and can just run straight up to their target while being sprayed down with bullets. Of course if you are running into a bunch of bullets, one might expect you to slow down or at least lose a little momentum. Or when jumping towards a target bullets should cause some kind of hindrance to movement speed.
So what is the shotgun solution? remove shotpackage ? No. Nerf shotpackage and rangefinder ? No. What I propose is that being shot should impact movement just as it impacts aim. I'm not saying it should be where getting shot in the leg stop you from running, but a slight "flinch" if you will. Just as the battle runner perk increases sprint speed and the weight of darkness slows sprint speed by small increments, I think it would be totally possible to implement a "weight of darkness x1" for a fraction of a second when you get shot. No stacking effect or anything just a slight reduction in head on sprint speed while being shot.
What would this accomplish? It would cause shotguns to require more situational awareness and not just run into the line of fire knowing that they will secure the kill, and escape with 5% of their health.
/Bonus\ I enjoy seeing people get head shots the chaperone because getting shot while rushing affects aim, and you do have to aim for the head to score a kill from long range. Even as A sniper main I enjoy the rush of running around with chaperone trying to get headshots like a mini sniper.
TL:DR, Implement a flinch for sprinting when being shot just like the flinch for aim while getting shot. Instead of nerfing shotguns over and over or removing perks (RIP shotpackage :( )
Poll options do not include primaries because we all know we should use those primarily.
Be nice guardians and good hunting!

As long as I don't get quick scooped by a shotgun from downtown then I'm good.

Shot package needs to still work if you get a headshot in my opinion.

Give them Wolfpack Rounds.

2 RepliesThe only reason I think shotguns require some skill is because you're always pinned down by fire because everything is further ranged, so you have to be creative with your movements to avoid death and that can get pretty hard Imo, although the spider trap technique is a bit less skill it requires real focus of the radar and of the corridors around you.
