"It's just emotes" you say. "Don't complain and don't buy it" you say. "Companies have to make money too" you say.
But if this proves to be successful, it will just get worse. Now it's emotes. Next it's ships and shaders. Then it's engrams. Then it's weapons and armor.
If we let them get away with this, they will try to get away with more. We have to draw a line and say "no further". We have to stamp out microtransactions here and now.
We can't let them get away with this.
I'm up for argument if you disagree with me.
EDIT: I've read through the update again and saw nothing about free DLC anywhere.
EDIT: For people using the slippery slope argument: that argument can go either way. They might not ever add any besides cosmetics, but it's better to be safe than sorry. They are more likely to put in more in the future if we respond to this first venture positively.
EDIT: 1000th comment! Woooo!
EDIT: These replies are starting to make me feel depressed. So many people are just willing to throw their money at bungie.
EDIT: After reading many replies and having many debates, I can see that It might be okay. As long as they stay just cosmetic, I guess that the desticles will be paying for all of my DLC this year. As long as it stays as cosmetics until the end of the series, I'll be fine.

AND THEN THEY CAME FOR ME AND I HAD NOONE TO SPEAK FOR ME

5 RepliesI think new emotes are a good thing. It adds variety to the game, BUT we should not have to pay our money for it. We should be able to find silver in the game, not have to buy it.
-
Even if it does get to the level of weapons and armour I'm ok with it as long as it's like engrams that only give you things you can get in game... As within a month or two everyone already has everything in a DLC anyway. This would just give people who do not have time to grind like the rest of us but have cash in their pockets from having a actual life so they can get the high level loot necessary for end game content which as we all know is the part of destiny which is the most fun.

"This... is how the world ends."

We can't let them get away with this??? Is this something we as consumers get to vote on? I sort of get what people are saying, but the faux militant approach is puzzling to me. Bungie knows that while some people will scream and refuse to buy, that will only last for so long. As soon as the militants see what the rest of us paid for, they'll buy too. That's what people do, without fail.

I am torn on this. I see your point. If successful, they could decide to go beyond cosmetics eventually. On the other hand, I am legitimately absolutely fine with giving more money to Bungie. I have put more time into this game than what I expect from the money I paid. I have considered buying a t-shirt or something to give them a little more money. This would do that, but it might send the wrong message. I am happy to contribute to funding more developers and fixes, etc. Maybe I should just mail them a check with a memo that says "no microtransactions"? If so, I'll follow it up with a check with memo "PS3/360 suck. Drop them." I could just start paying them monthly even though there's no game subscription...

1 ReplyLuke Smith got what he wants. Throwing money at the screen for emotes.

As long as they only continue to sell stuff that is cosmetic and do not effect my game experience in anyway, I don't care. Many games are doing this now, it is just the way it is.

1 Replysorry but this company and its publisher are some of the biggest money heaving and hoeing douchebags to date. Nothing we can do, they will only ever try harder to make money than to make a replayable and competitive game. welcome to the modern day gaming capitalization.

Ships and shaders is not bad or pay to win

There's a cash shop in many MMO's. FF XIV ARR has one, and that one is purely for cosmetics. If bungie was stupid enough to add in buyable items for real world currency, the community would be outraged, and it would promptly be removed. They have proven that they listen, and with how hard it is to earn money on games, I don't mind them taking this approach to earning a little extra.

I have nothing but positive experiences with the micro transaction format. Where the -blam!- is everyone getting the impression that it's a bad system? Borderlands had skin packs. Other shooters have/had gun skin packs. Did shit ever go past that? No. The difference between 'dlc' like skins and 'microtransactions' for skins is nothing, it's the exact same thing. Consumer pays for 1 specific item and that item can be bundled with other items of a similar nature. I played LoL for 4 years, that game lives off of microtransactions, and this revenue system was never an issue for the game (as a consumer). I bought maybe 6 skins over the course of 4 years in LoL and was never at a disadvantage for not having purchased something exclusive to RL currency. Perhaps you all need to stop playing Candy Crush and shitty mobile games like that to actually see how the microtransaction system can be a positive non-intrusive thing. They could've literally just said "we're making emotes players can buy" (which is what they're doing) and no body would be tripping. Everyone has an issue with how you buy them but honestly how is irrelevant in this case. You mofo's are acting like you've never seen cosmetic dlc before AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THIS IS. I've never played a game where actual stand alone gear was sold through dlc or microtransactions (w/e the -blam!- you want to call the process of buying a single in game item) and don't see why Bungievision would steer towards doing that. There is so much negative tension surrounding the microtransaction system, due to manipulative mobile games, that Bungievision have to know that the instant Destiny becomes pay to play or pay to win through microtransactions they're going to lose an enormous amount of their player base (rightfully so imo). The reason TTK worked (which is about as close to a pay to play wall that you can get w/o being one) was because it provides substantial content and was a one time purchase. It's considered DLC by the masses.

1 ReplyCosmetic does not equal pay to win. You cannot punish Bungie before they cross that line. I trust Activision and Bungie are smart enough to know that pay to win will probably hurt them. They know their demographic. Until pay to win happens, relax. It's just cosmetic. It is unfair to project wrong doing that hasn't happened.

5 RepliesEdited by Guardian3263: 10/6/2015 2:12:37 PMThe sensationalism is real. Everyone needs to calm down. Plenty of games have micro-transactions and all it does is bolster revenue to help with future content should people choose to even buy them. You're treating micro-transactions in games like this as if it's Candy Crush -- that's far from the case. All this slippery slope crap proves how quick people are to jump to conclusions. It's ridiculous. Boycott if you really see something wrong when it comes out rather than dumping your salt and pepper on your meal before taking a bite. If cosmetics help them generate more, meaningful content, I say let people buy them who want them. If it means DLC can be free or cheaper or there can be updates between DLC, so be it. F2P works for certain games -- hell, saved some as the Star Wars MMO is still around. While its quality can be debated, the fact is it is still active. Also: see any shooter win meaningless skin packs that don't harm the game. LoL has cosmetics to help their team with revenue for players to show support or buy things they like. Worst case scenario: things take a dump and you decide to quit. But why act prematurely over something you don't know? Might be affecting a good thing by acting this way.

We get one free package of silver. I don't imagine most people will need more than one dance. Or slow clap...

9 RepliesThe DeeJ post says nothing about "free DLC." Why would they do that? They milk this game for all it's worth.
