Just pondering this topic while waiting for the tower to load one day:
When traveling between planets in Destiny, it usually takes between 10 and 30 seconds to arrive at your destination. However, planets are so incredibly far apart that that would not be possible, even at the speed of light.
Light takes about 8 minutes to reach Earth from the Sun and about 78 minutes to reach Saturn from the Sun. So, the distance between Earth and Saturn is about 70 light minutes (assuming the Earth and Saturn are lined up nicely).
So, next time when you are taking a trek back to the tower after patrolling the Dreadnaught, remember that you're completing a journey that takes at least an hour in just a few seconds :)

1 ReplyTechnically speaking you won't be traveling at the speed of light. You'll be bending space around the ship to the point where you literally jump from one point to another. Even at the speed of light you're still not going fast enough to travel around a galaxy.

We are faster than light
-
Damn, good thing it's a VIDEO GAME huh?
-
>Just played a match of Crucible on Vertigo, Mercury. >Next map, Dreadnaught. >Time to afk for over an hour. Sounds fun, right?

1 ReplyThe Traveler Rearranged our solar system. That is all
-
My only problem would be going into (what I'm assuming is) hyperspace or whatever when you're leaving from the tower and are going to the Cosmodrome or the Moon, or vice-versa lol
-
Neither does anything in this game

1 ReplyEdited by PSD: 9/22/2015 8:25:47 PMJumping the same on every planet doesn't make no scientific sence. One more question... Who cares???

Somebody's never watched Star Ttek.

Star trek technology. ...space magic is for kids and you seem to be in puberty

2 RepliesEdited by Must Have Gally: 9/22/2015 6:45:05 PMWarp drive bends space time around you and cause you to move (relative an outside viewer) faster than the speed of light. It's called an alcubierre drive, look it up Don't you remember the first mission?
-
When did you assume it was real time? Ever hear of a jump cut, or maybe warp drives if you're going to argue that it's real time, dude it's syfy just deal with it
-
The 1st mission in vanilla destiny after you get revived is getting a warp drive. Are you stupid or did u forget? Lemme guess. U just started playing destiny
-
Out of all the future shit in this game that's your question...sun singer lights on fire and comes back from the dead, hunter shoots a bow made out of light, Titan throws flaming hammers....but oh how does the ship move so fast lol
-
We go faster than the speed of light is how.

Edited by OhMyHiggs: 9/22/2015 6:52:27 PMThey are firing mini black holes into space and it's pulling us along. One can imagine.

You can RP the times of you want. Every time you load the Dreadnought just turn your TV off for an hour and you're good. No reason to subject everyone else to those load times.
-
First mission: Ghost: "Lets go find a FASTER THAN LIGHT DRIVE!" Guardian: "Ok"
-
You can see when traveling we are in some type of wormhole or warp drive and we pop out or get spit out just before our destination.

Picture a four-dimensional fabric called space-time. When anything that has mass sits on that piece of fabric, it causes a dimple or a bending of space-time. The bending of space-time causes objects to move on a curved path and that curvature of space is what we know as gravity. Both the general and special relativity theories have been proven with GPS satellite technology that has very accurate timepieces on board. The effects of gravity, as well as the satellites' increased speed above the Earth relative to observers on the ground, make the unadjusted clocks gain 38 microseconds a day. (Engineers make calibrations to account for the difference.) In a sense, this effect, called time dilation, means astronauts are time travelers, as they return to Earth very, very slightly younger than their identical twins that remain on the planet.

Um ugh,PURPLE SPACE MAGIC
-
Well after stealing vex technology during the golden age we were able to create ships that that use time loops to travel thru space in the matter of seconds/minutes. Think of it as a black hole theory.

You never watched Star Wars did you. It's science fiction! Why is there a big white ball floating in the sky that can make it rain on Mars?
