Just pondering this topic while waiting for the tower to load one day:
When traveling between planets in Destiny, it usually takes between 10 and 30 seconds to arrive at your destination. However, planets are so incredibly far apart that that would not be possible, even at the speed of light.
Light takes about 8 minutes to reach Earth from the Sun and about 78 minutes to reach Saturn from the Sun. So, the distance between Earth and Saturn is about 70 light minutes (assuming the Earth and Saturn are lined up nicely).
So, next time when you are taking a trek back to the tower after patrolling the Dreadnaught, remember that you're completing a journey that takes at least an hour in just a few seconds :)

Are you saying Bungie should have made us wait 8 minutes if we want to do like a 5 second visit to the Tower?

This is the proof
-
Bruh this is golden age wormhole traveling
-
Space magic and the golden age buds.
-
Yes, I also want interminably long load screens between destinations. I just couldn't think of a way to make the request seem less batshit.
-
Bruh instead of talking about slip space and space travel physics in a GAME of all things, lets talk about how we can 'explore' only ONE section of each planet at any given time! And holy shit the Dreadnaught is MASSIVE. And we only crash into and visit the waiting center where interestingly enough all of the important things are like it's core, the Court of Oryx, the things to shut down its 'f*ck you, pay me' weapon, it's jail and the THRONE ROOM of Oryx himself! And oh yeah I'm SURE only Russia ever evolved beyond Golden Age right? That's why we haven't visited a lick of any other areas on Earth. Cause clearly nothing is there worth visiting except coolness factor cause WHY WOULD WE WANT COOLNESS IN A VIDEO GAME? And Venus. The mighty Vex-orientated planet. I'm SURE these multi-headed Axis Minds only have their sole attention on the Ishtar Sink. I'm SURE of it.

If you really want to be a stickler, take the theory of relativity and calculate the differential in experienced time between how many trips each character takes. Go between Saturn and earth enough and you would experience say a few days of travel and the earth would experience a few years.

2 RepliesFTL, wormhole, slipspace, hyperspace, warp core, jump drive, starburst. Take your pick.
-
Nice but isn't this a game?
-
1 ReplyI bet you were beaten at parties, pissed on, and became the pillow of an intoxicated college jock. Explain the Light Scientifically. Explain Ghost resurrection Scientifically. Explain the Oversoul scientifically. EXPLAIN THE TRAVELLER scientifically. I'll wait.
-
Russia to the Tower ( probably near Himalayas) takes the same time for Saturn to Venus. Logggicck.
-
1 ReplyDamn, the loading screens should take an hour to be scientifically accurate!
great post by the way
-
Space magic.....You seriously can't try to bring logic into a game.
-
Guys, it's true. If you don't believe me, you can go ask the Warlock that lives in your neighbourhood.
-
Really....a video game not being realistic?
-
Have you ever contemplated suicide?
-
Well, you can just sit and wait the hour so you can make it feel more realistic.
-
This is a ****game****
-
It's a game Jesus -blam!-ing Christ
-
Faster than light, Mr. Not-as-smart-as-he-thinks.

1. The Traveler moved the planets, mainly Venus and Mars, probably into or closer to the "goldilocks zone". Evidence for this: The moon is obviously closer to Earth and Mars is visible from the Moon. 2. The ships don't travel at or near light speed necessarily. The in flight animation looks more like a warp/wormhole.
-
Who says are ships are traveling at light speed?
-
Well we're really cutting space and slipping through the cut rather than traveling at the speed of light so you're wrong.
-
It's pretty funny, but I think they did it so we wouldn't get bored.
-
1 ReplyOf all the things in destiny, the travel time is what you think is not realistic?
