Why there needs to be 'girl' only clans
I have seen a lot of gender topics and it seems a lot of you are missing the real #1 reason this happens.
It isnt for specialness or segrigation (lets face it you can be part of multiple clans that are not female centered) or even to call attention to women.
Its actually for two reasons.
1. Men are everywhere here. I can find you guys and play the game with you at any point. But I have to hunt down the ladies if I wana girls night. As men you should understand this concept. Sometimes a bays night is what you need.
2. Safty. As I always say, "not all men, but all women." In other words while most of you guys are great every gal on here has run into more than 1 asshat that sexualy harrasses them at one point or another. So its just nice to have a safe place to go where you dont have to deal with that, or at least have a less likely chance of it happening.
If you as men and nice guys wana help and not make us feel we need these groups... the best way is to call out your buddies who you know make stupid unnecessary sexualized comments, not yell at women of seperating themselves.
Like anything bad you dont support, the first step is not participating but the second step is to call it out. Most of you got the first step down.
So what do you guys say? Help us out and start callingbout the jerks with us. Lets make it so one day women dont feel the need to take a break from your less than savory dudebro friends that cant stop talking about their D or how they wana bang the only lady in your fire team.
Help make it so women when messaging someone dont have to hope and pray its not another a-hole that constantly makes sandwich jokes.
I think we'd all have a lot more fun if we could accomplish this. Then when some noob comes in about 'girl gamers' we can truly honestly say there are just 'gamers' here on destiny.
Edit: should have done this sooner. By the time this thread dies all the crappy ppl will mute me or block me. This was a better solution than girls clans ever were.
Edit2: got a lot more good responses than I thought I would. I actually feel way better about this community. I wanted a good sample of what it was actually like.
Edit3: TLDR- I am saying I dont want to need an all female clan. Not that I want one. And pointing out why destiny still needs them. The problems the community as a whole still has.
Edit4: I aleeady have a clan. Though its available to everyone not just women dispite popular belief.
Edit5: so most of you claim its young boys that are the culprits...I find this facinating since most of the young men on my friends list are quite respectful.

2 RepliesInstead of there being Girl only clans, which in my opinion is basically the equivalent of placing women in a safety bubble. How about we just deal with the shit heads that cause them so much grief? As a guy gamers whose been around since PS2 I've had quite a few females on my friends list across many platforms. Is it too much to ask for people to treat female gamers with the same respect we give to the males on our lists. Crazy thought butane if you treated them equally you could make another lasting friend you never expected. But alas, that is not the world we live in. The Internet gives people the ability to be ugly with zero consequences or accountability.

I'm not going to read too many comments in this thread, but I'm sure it has a lot of/will get a lot MORE of: "[i]I'm[/i] not offended when people make mean spirited jokes at my expense, therefore NOBODY should be! Words can under [i]no[/i] circumstances ever be taken as hurtful because they're just words!" and "Guys get shit talked all the time in online gaming and we don't run off and make clans like that! How hypocritical and sexist." I find it pretty funny that no matter how many times these threads are made, people in general (I see it from both men and women) A) can't seem to grasp that words ARE hurtful to some people and B) don't seem to understand that being shit talked for being a specific gender is NOT the same as being shit talked in general. Avoiding people who will shit talk you for being a woman is avoiding one type of shit talking, not trying to avoid it all and it's easy to avoid people who will shit talk you for being your gender: you just find people who are the same gender as you.

Honestly I have never been in a clan or fireteam, and just being these forums I can see how other men treat female gamers. It's sad, as another gamer you have to embrace and welcome other gamers, male or female. Sadly, this can put a bad name on us male gamers, not that it has on you, but it has left a bad taste in others' mouths. Just to let you know, I would never treat another gamer horribly, unless it is proven to me that they deserve it, if you see this gamertag ShaggyAtol1, you know that I will treat you with respect. ~[i]ShaggyAtol1[/i]

Ok look. Being a girl is just an "excuse". Some just dont have a thicker skin and don't take advantage of the anonymity to face the situation. I got lots and lots of shit from ppl. Some rude, some marriage proposals, some perverted or creepy. What I did? I said shit back, ignored and laughed about it. Girls feel the need to be in a clan or in a group because they feel secure, protected and especially they'd have the group strength. Everyone does shit in a group tht would never do individually. And dont you dare say tht women are not rude! They can be the most annoying shits ever and again, backed out or in a group only. Girl clans I find them to be...painful. as much as you are friends with them, once they erupt, shit and drama will flow. Women are great competitors between themselves. Dont be sounding like a feminist because we get more -blam!-ing attention thn anything in the video game universe. And guess what? We like it, we brag about it, we laugh and we shame the guy who said "you have a cute voice". Little kids (especially boys) get it rougher thn we do. As a grown up woman, stand up for yourself from time to time.

I don't see a problem with gender specific clans. I wouldn't expect a whole lot from posting a thread on one of the saltiest places in the Destiny community. There are some chill people on the forums though, as you can see from some of the replies you've received.

Been playing since day 1, I join almost daily on activities that requires voice communication, I have yet to meet a female in destiny. It's sad as it's nice to have girls in the groups in games. Oh well.

I don't care who is in what group, as long as it is acceptable for any type of person to start a "such and such" only group. It is acceptable for all or acceptable for none. I do not care if girls want all girl groups I get it and understand it. You are right sometimes I wanna just chill with my guy friends without girls around. As much as equal treatment is asked for I guarantee 98% of the women I am friends with would not be friends with me if I treated them the exact same way I do my guy friends. I know this because I have done it and lost friends because of it me and my core group grew up together we are like brothers and can be pretty harsh with one another in a non serious joking way that most women find offensive or would take personally when my other friends would just laugh. So I get it and as long as you don't call me a sexist misogynistic asshole for wanting the same sort of non-judgemental "safe" environment you want. More power to you, everyone(men, women, white,black, purple, tall, short, skinny, fat etc. etc. etc) should be able to put them self in what they find to be a safe and comfortable setting without being attacked for doing so. Perfect equality is something I don't think could be achieved but we can try to get as close as possible right? Just my two cents

Agreed, sadly you can't change the fact that so many gamers are either socially inept in a way or teens with nothing but hormones and derp in their bodies. Our clan doesn't handle anything based on gender, but we are 17+ and tbh that saves us a lot of trouble.
