I have heard from a few people and on Reddit. That once TTK releases and year 2 begins that all of our year one weapons will be obsolete. (Not upgradeable to newest dmg cap) they will remain at 365 dmg for the remainder of destiny's 10 year plan.
This would be an effort by bungie to FORCE us to use the newest weapons rolling out. At this point it's only a rumor but if this is true its a bad move.
Your telling me, my 800+ hours acquiring every exotic is for nothing and essentially we'd have to start our collections over.
This seems like a move bungie would make since they are a custom to making us play the game the way they want us to play it.
This will be a killer for me. If this actually happens I'm walking away and I won't feel bad about it. What game in history has rendered entire cache's of weapons useless. To me this is what makes a game great. VARIETY!!!
this is suppose to be an mmo style game so why in the hell would you get rid of guns to make room for new ones? To me this sounds like another cater for last gen owners.
What are your thoughts on this?
EDIT: thanks for your continued feedback on this topic guys and girls. This topic is trending lets keep it that way I'd really like to hear the majoritys thoughts on this topic
EDIT 2: bungie is controlling us and up until now the faithful players of destiny have fell victim to this trance with the addictive gameplay. But the corporate decisions they are making are negative towards us the heart and soul of destiny (the consumer). Not only is bungie spitting in our faces by overpricing TTK and not including the bonuses that the collectors edition get. But now they expect us to throw away our arsenal of weapons essentially making us start over. Having to acquire all new weapons and spend countless hours upgrading them. This is gonna happen at the start of every new year for destiny. THIS IS NOT HOW DESTINY SHOULD BE PLAYED. Why can't we decide which guns we want and don't want. Even if they allowed us to choose 5 exotics to "ascend" through the 10 year plan would be sufficient. They are sucking the life blood our of this community simply by these decisions they are making. And destiny will die very quickly if they don't control it now. MY TIME IS VALUABLE AND SO IS YOURS DONT SUCCUMB TO THESE BARBARIC PRACTICES PUT FORTH BY BUNGIE. Make a stand here and let your voice be heard

4 RepliesGood evening BK :) Here's the interview you're looking for. Think it's about the 8-9 minute mark. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/132380124/0/0

What's even the point of grinding the arena if I'm going to be needing to delete my guns that I've already ascended. It's a stupid decision. I understand that there is a power gap developing between legendarys and rares but that's what the etheric light is there for... Besides that how cool would it be to be playing pvp 3 yrs from now and kill someone with a gun like final boss, devil you know, or even our current weapon set. Then after the match someone asks where do you get that? It like "you had to be there dude lol". Exclude them to year 2 starters ok, but don't make them have less value to were people are deleting them A gun like that is the mark of someone that's been around awhile. It shouldn't be taken from them.
-
Personally I will never delete fatebringer I am married to that gun, but that doesn't mean I won't have an affair with these sexy new guns coming out. for all we know it won't make them obsolete. maybe just for the new raid in that aspect where we will need all the light we can get to take on the utter abyss of darkness that is oryx. Even after tdb came out fb was still a viable choice and for me....
it always will be my number 1 choice
If that truly happens I will probably be done playing Destiny. There's just no point in playing anymore if that's how it is going to be. Only reason why I have kept playing in this expansion is the hope that they will pull their collective heads out. I am not even a Bungie fan but loved the potential the story and lore brought to this game. But as soon I seen I had to rebuy content to get exclusive items and emotes in the back of mind I was thinking this isn't right at all. This is wrong. If something doesn't change with that and this weapon thing happens I guess I will be waiting for The Division to come out before I get hardcore into another game. Kind of hard to swallow that 1112 hours may be a complete waste.

has noting to do with last gen. its about herding the sheep

I think it's a good idea to get away from the old weapons.. Fatebringer vision etc etc. The reason being, there is only so many ways to Stat different weapons. When the game started vault was mega hard and as a result demanded a solid reward. And so bungie gave some of the best weapons in the game as rewards. Rightly so. But where does that leave you. Can't really make any better guns to be honest. So what is there to play for when you have all the good loot? The old weapons need to go in order to make way for new ones and the excitement of aquiring them. That's all the game is really about (for me anyway). Simply put, if they keep allowing people to bump the old weapons we'll never need the new ones. Leave the past in the past and enjoy what the game designers have in store for us. I trust them to do a good job.
-
If this is true you can bet your ass I'm gone.
-
They better be leaps and bounds better than the sorry pieces of shit in the DLC.
-
Bump. I hope to see this confirmed or denied in the weekly update. I didn't spend the last ten months acquiring and leveling some awesome weapons just to have them rendered usless in one fell swoop. How can we "become legend" if we have to load out with all new weaponry? It should be our choice if we want to stay "married" to one gun for the duration of the first instalment of Destiny.
-
If theres a equal replacement for fatebringer then whatever go right ahead but if not then -blam!- them. They shouldnt force it they should deliver something that makes you want to delete your fatebringer not make fatebringer useless. I really will quit playing. Honestly from the shitty weapons of PoE i been looking for a reason to quit playing... I dare them, they'll loose so many people over night.
-
This means vog and crota are a wast of time if this is true.
-
That would be stupid to do, they just allowed us to upgrade EVERYTHING with etheric light. As if they would do that and take it all away. Really.
-
Yep. This is what's going to happen. I think exotics will be upgradable. Everything else is not. Makes sense if they are not going to give us vault space. It's a shame really. There's not much point in upgrading anything now until we get confirmation.

2 RepliesIt would be a bad decision on there part. Sorry for the wall. Got carried away. If you want me to use new guns make new guns that are worth useing. Don't make the older guns weak. I don't always use my raid guns, but if there's a burn that's what I go to. Why not make future raid gear have no burn, but be "burn ready" let me aquire a "burn orb" and decided what type I want. Unlock all perks (including old perks, like field scout, exclude only exotic perks) to raid, iron banner, and trials, (exc) gear, let me roll it and lock what perks I want on it for ~30 motes per perk, let me name it, and pick the shader i want for it. Call it a signature weapon, and lock it up like an exoitc, so you can only use it in 1 slot. That way regular guns still have to be used as well. That's some endgame content. Powerful, expensive, and semi unique. Make new exotics stupidly powerful in pve, but find a way to balance them in pvp *while still remaining very strong. Maybe make their powerful perks only effect minions of darkness, or give them 2 set of perks that you can choose between. Think murmur style. Give me a reason to want to use something other then gally (I actually don't use it now unless I'm doing endgame stuff but some people do spam it) And finally give me some more vault space, I don't care how you do it at this point, just do it, I have a whole host of guns I like and use that arnt raid gear or exotic. But the more you add exotics and endgame gear the less space I will have, and I will trash normal guns before exotics and raid gear every time. That being said if you add new guns I like I would gladly add them to my collection and use them too. Don't make me delete my guns even if they collect dust making me delete them just pisses me off.

1 ReplyLmfao. So all this etheric light is for nothing? Just a grind to hold you until the king? Does that apply to Exotic Weapons ? So good bye ghally ? That would be suicide. This I will have to see, going to get some popcorn ready.
-
I agree completely. On top of that vault space.
-
Would amaze me if they did this. After they realised that making past weapons obsolete and bringing in etheric light to solve the problem and actually making the chance for us to design and equip our gaurdien as we choose.. To go back on this and make equipment useless would be the stupidest move they could make...
-
Any wow players here? Remember when a new expansion would come out and your purple armor and weapons were replaced with greens? Same thing....
-
1 ReplyIf my felwinters, radegast, efrideets, etc are gone then I am long gone no joke. I've played this game a TON, but will walk away with no problem if they do something like this. They're already screwing us with vault space. I've deleted tons of guns that are better than anything dropping or at vendors currently.

1 ReplyEdited by Irish Ard Ri: 6/23/2015 6:43:42 AMNot sure if it is true but it would not be a smart decision. Some of my friends bailed after TDB when they had to relevel their weapons and thought that was bs so they quit playing the game. I love the game and am just now unlocking raid gear now that I have enough friends to play them so I would hate to lose these weapons that I grinded so long to aquire and then level up.
-
Yeah it's their lazy way of fixing their 'oversight'(?) of making weapons of 'op' perks and stats and wanting to just get rid of them. So they all but flat out refuse vault space while talks from deej of year one weapons being useless in TTK. Cool....

With weapons being such a critical piece of the Destiny experience they should allow players to keep them and allow them to level up like Etheric Light. It's unfortunate Bungie messed up a critical piece that almost all other MMORPG games have which is plenty of space to hold items and are using different reasons to excuse the issue rather than admit the screw-up and try to find a solution. II get previous generation consoles can not handle it, but it seems like it could have been rolled out in a way so they could. Something that seems like an easy fix would be to combine armor and weapon vaults or decrease armor vault size and increase weapon and item vault space. I use the armor vault to just hold engrams for whichever character needs the mats. I also get that we should move onto new items and weapons, but they have to be at least close to on par with old ones. I hope TTK reveals some legendary weaps that are actually better than current options. The only legendary weaps from TDB and HoW that I use consistently is Black Hammer for PVE and Felwinter's Lie for PVP.
-
1 ReplyExotics will more than likely level with the game. Problem is year 1 weapons are better all round and I mean weapons before TDB. Their standard peck outshine 90% of the new guns.
-
4 RepliesI doubt this is true or will affect Exotics as whole. If they render the Exotic weapons obsolete they will also have to render all of the exotic armors obsolete as well, and that would be a disaster for them. So I'm pretty sure Exotics will remain being upgradable, not so sure about the legendaries though. But if they decide to do that, it will be a major retrocession in my opinion and will only help Destiny keep a limited number of weapons and armors instead of having a ever growing menu of weapons and armors at your disposal. Something that would be a huge waste.
