Are you saving your exotic engrams or is that stupid?
I did not play before the TDB so I never got to test the theory, but some people have said they are saving exotic engrams. So, is it true? Or are you just not buying any engrams at all anymore and just saving your motes of light?

I'm saving my cryptarch packages since they generate engrams when you open them. Wait till after HoW drops, then open them. Even if it doesn't give new items, decrypting them should get me a level or two with cryptarch after the dlc, and get some new engrams with DLC stuff. So maybe save your engrams just to save the cryptarch rep gains. With factions, like some people have said, get to like 50 rep below a new level, and then hold it. Then after the update you can do a few bointies and level up factions, and get packages with new shit in them.

In fact, it'll mostly leave you at a disadvantage since you'll wind up with outdated items. I will happily guarantee that Bungie won't change this. They don't want players with piles of sparkly, brand new legendaries and exotics on day 1 of HoW. They want you to grind and fight the random number generator for them.

I'd say keep motes of light, but save legendary engrams. You can turn them in later for xur reputation, and get packages faster. If you currently have exotic engrams, keep them for the rep

1 ReplyIt was tested with The Dark Below Old engrams, packages, and even exotic engrams will turn into prior equipment with the prior attack limit. Don't waste you time getting those

rank up all factions to where you can turn in one bounty and rank them all up real fast. I have 12 ready to rank up. And I still play the other three factions until it's closer. Then I will have 15 packages basically as soon as it drops. Ps. I'm including vanguards as factions and engrams bought now will not turn to new level gear.

7 RepliesEngrams are not pre-rolled so not the worst idea as you may score some new expansion gear when HoW drops worth even saving legendary ones to that's what I have been doing

The engrams can only be armor/weapons from when it was dropped. Save your motes for iron banner rolls

I was gonna, but I don't have much room left in my vault. So I just turned them in. And got helmets I already had. And gave myself a couple of seconds to cry it out.

3 RepliesYou won't get new items from "old" engrams. You are better off saving your motes and strange coins until the DLC comes out so you can buy all the new stuff right away. This also works for packages from the factions/cryptarch. I did a video on it which I posted above, might clear some things up for you.

Engrams decoded into items of the previously stats when TDB came out. I saved stuff and got 300 weapons or 30 light instead of 36 so save ur stuff

The only advantage to saving engrams is to level up your cryptarch rank after getting the DLC, so you can get new DLC engram packages.

Save motes for iron banner weapons

Notes are more useful to me. I can use them to reforge iron banner weapons, buy exotic engrams, or buy stuff from the speaker. Engram's only give you stuff and level up rahool. Rahool has crap though so he's not worth it.

Well I only need one chest piece to complete my collection, so I'm just saving motes.
