Guess what, I understand them wanting to highlight a clan and all...but I feel like it is stupid.
Bungie is basically saying it is all right to alienate an entire gender from a clan. Half the reason we had the problem with gamergate to begin with is because us males were supposedly alienating females, but they have the sole right to do it to us and have it glorified? That is not right, not right at all.
Gaming is suppose to be just gaming. Skills are suppose to speak for themselves and we should all get together for the greater good of gaming. I understand that being a female in this gaming environment could be kind of a harsh experience dependent on who you ran into, but alienating men won't help things better.
I remember a professional gaming clan (PMS) realized that they couldn't remain all female and ended up making the H20 Men clan to run beside them. Though, fun fact. PMS did not originally stand for Pandoras Mighty Soldiers, but Psychotic Men Slayers. But yeah.
I think this feature is stupid.
Edit - Notice they supposedly made a "SafeGamers" clan for those who did not qualify to be in DoD since they're male. And in the description they say
"A group of non-Dames members who support the Dames of Destiny but are either male or part of another clan. All members of Dames Allies have been verified as SafeGamer allies, meaning they treat female gamers and other gamers with respect and support the Dames mission."
Notice the part I made bold? Female gamers and "Other" gamers? Male gamers are "Other" gamers now? The hell? Gamers are gamers regardless of gender.
EDIT 2 - Some people were saying, "Dads of Destiny" when bringing up this in relation to that. I can understand what you're saying about this, as only men can get into this group. However, this also has another set criteria in that not all men can technically get into the group. Not all men are Dads, Grand dads, or Uncles. So technically not even every male is allowed to get in.
Edit 3 - Excellent Comment

There will never be equality if society still needs to empower certain demographics and give them recognition.
Same is true of black history month. If we were all just people coexisting, we wouldn't need to recognize the accomplishments of blacks.
The very act of celebrating a separate group is the reason why they still continue to be a separate group."

Me and my mate played with a group of this clan once. They could not even finish VoG oracles and I've never heard women talk so much crap. I can't state much from a one-time experience, but I agree they should not be featured....

1 ReplyYou're mad because pointing out a female groups alienates men? What have men been doing to women for thousands of years, and getting a highlight over a video game has you pressed? Reevaluate your life.

This is worst than the time a gay guy on here was bashed for trying to find a clan of other gays. Do you realize all the BS the straight male community spews over Mics? "You play like a girl" "what a f*g" "if you can't kill Crota you're gay" etc etc Stop harassing minorities who want to find a safe space away from the ignorance.

1 Replyimma start a vegan clan because an avian only future is speciesism....

If people looked at other people and just saw People... not color, gender or other differences, the world would be a far better place. Highlighting a specific clan and that clan being female only is hardly a big deal. Making a post about it saying that it's a big deal is just instigation really. Anyway it all comes down to humanities inability to balance properly. We go from one extreme to the other without even remotely coming close to a middle ground. Think about it in relation to any of the big topics over the years. Race, gender, religion etc... Not going to give specific examples because I already know how that will go but you get the idea.

BREAKING NEWS: Men want to hang out with men. Women want to hang out with women. I'm going to need 10 more characters in order to be able to collect all the tears from these bounties.

This is stupid, just play and don't worry about it.

6 RepliesThey're trying to make a community where people feel safe. You're trying to attack that through immature fallacy based logic. If you're too stupid to see it as a move to normalize women in gaming and see that as a good thing you're a troll/13/ or just lack basic human decency man
-
We're really clutching at straws for things to moan about on this forum now it seems.
-
Literally as soon as something doesn't involve yours as in "other gamers" you attack the thing. As soon as it isn't catering to you its instantly a problem, and that's sad
-
1 ReplyIt's not celebrating anything. Clans can form based on skill level, play style, region, time zone , and other like-minded characteristics or criteria. The fact you have a problem with it says more about you than anything else. Maybe you should learn to deal.

We're all allowed to have preferences and have the right to choose things we're comfortable with. Would anyone bat an eye if I started a clan exclusively for lovers of steak? I'd be discriminating against vegetarians wouldn't I? Let's face it, if all boys/ guys would act even remotely mature around girl gamers there would be no need for them to form a group where they feel safe. It's the idiotic, harassment and stalking of male gamers that made Dames of Destiny necessity. I like things you don't like. I'm going to find people to game with that have the same interests. I would agree that there are more extreme interests (racial issue being the most prevalent) that have no place in gaming but are unfortunate societal issues that spill over and perpetuate hate. This is an issue of respect. I may not agree with you but I can respect that you have a different viewpoint than I do and therefore can continue to coexist.

I propose a Bungie Bounty - Dames of Destiny Edition.
-
New clan, Males of Destiny, for those sick.of accusations of misogyny, or requests for back packs based on gender, join up
-
So I got 12 Strange Coins in the Nightfall last night. I have 105 now.

1 ReplyIts because of posts like this that their clan is necessary. When I play with anyone online it doesnt matter who they are, but im sure you've seen how sexist and aggressive some male players are against female players. Its sickening.
-
Groups like Dames of Destiny exist because women are in the minority when it comes to gaming. People may quote stats like 'women make up almost 50% of gamers', but that's across all games and genres. I 100% guarantee that there are far less women than men that play Destiny. As a dude, if you want to find other dudes to play with on Destiny, it's as simple as joing any random team/clan/lfg party. As a girl though, it may well be difficult to find other girls to play with. Hence why there is a group dedicated to that purpose, and to supporting each other. If they started letting everyone in, it would defeat the entire point. It would simply become a subset of the total playerbase, with the same overwhelming majority of men. You may say that a gamer is a gamer, and gender shouldn't matter, but that's easy to say when the vast majority of people you encounter are the same gender as you. Imagine if it was the other way round, and you were a guy trying to get into something which is predominatly female, like, I dunno, ballet. Chances are that no matter how friendly all the women there were, you would still be craning your neck around, trying to see if there were any other guys present. And if there were, you would probably want to get to know them. That's the same thing that's going on here.
-
Being a girl on destiny, I think it's a good idea. It helps you find more girls to play with. It's kind of sad when I'm in a raid with my husband and I still get hit on... Not all guys on destiny are like that but just standing in the tower afk I get random friend requests because I'm a girl.
-
As long as cooking and cleaning is all done, it doesn't mater what they do.

2 RepliesRacist troll. Are you butthurt that white men can't have our own clan? You know why? Same reason you don't get lightning bolts when you are first in Mario kart. You are already in the lead.
-
6 RepliesYou are sexist even though you are trying to be the opposite.
-
Are you trying to play "find the feminist?"
-
4 RepliesI promise you, If there was a Dudes of Destiny or Dongs of Destiny, that excluded all female gamers and consisted of only male gamers, they would not get a weekly highlight. That's a guarantee.
-
You're just Mad cuz they wouldn't give you their number bro...
-
What's the point in this as well? Let them have their clan man. They just want to play with other women in a safe environment where they aren't harassed. How do you know that they don't have male friends they play with. Sure the clan itself is alienating men in a way but then again clans do this all the time. Some clans only allow good players in or strictly people they know with no exception for randoms. All they're doing is creating a clan where girls can meet one another. Doesn't mean they don't play with other people. Do you really want in their clan that bad that you had to make this post because you can't ever be a accepted by their clan?
