Guess what, I understand them wanting to highlight a clan and all...but I feel like it is stupid.
Bungie is basically saying it is all right to alienate an entire gender from a clan. Half the reason we had the problem with gamergate to begin with is because us males were supposedly alienating females, but they have the sole right to do it to us and have it glorified? That is not right, not right at all.
Gaming is suppose to be just gaming. Skills are suppose to speak for themselves and we should all get together for the greater good of gaming. I understand that being a female in this gaming environment could be kind of a harsh experience dependent on who you ran into, but alienating men won't help things better.
I remember a professional gaming clan (PMS) realized that they couldn't remain all female and ended up making the H20 Men clan to run beside them. Though, fun fact. PMS did not originally stand for Pandoras Mighty Soldiers, but Psychotic Men Slayers. But yeah.
I think this feature is stupid.
Edit - Notice they supposedly made a "SafeGamers" clan for those who did not qualify to be in DoD since they're male. And in the description they say
"A group of non-Dames members who support the Dames of Destiny but are either male or part of another clan. All members of Dames Allies have been verified as SafeGamer allies, meaning they treat female gamers and other gamers with respect and support the Dames mission."
Notice the part I made bold? Female gamers and "Other" gamers? Male gamers are "Other" gamers now? The hell? Gamers are gamers regardless of gender.
EDIT 2 - Some people were saying, "Dads of Destiny" when bringing up this in relation to that. I can understand what you're saying about this, as only men can get into this group. However, this also has another set criteria in that not all men can technically get into the group. Not all men are Dads, Grand dads, or Uncles. So technically not even every male is allowed to get in.
Edit 3 - Excellent Comment

There will never be equality if society still needs to empower certain demographics and give them recognition.
Same is true of black history month. If we were all just people coexisting, we wouldn't need to recognize the accomplishments of blacks.
The very act of celebrating a separate group is the reason why they still continue to be a separate group."

I feel like the whole idea of a clan is to be part of a group you have things in common with. Whether that be that you're all dames, all Canadians, all dads, or all smoking weed. There is a commonality that brings you together. I would have joined Dames of Destiny had I not been invited to the clan I am in now. Heck, I doubt I would still be playing if it weren't for them.

No one made any stupid ass shit like this when they did dad's of destiny...quite trying to build fires you troll

14 RepliesThe reason that these things are still happening i.e. Black history month and Dames-of-destiny is because we still live in a white and male dominated society that actively erases the problems and achievements of women, blacks, Hispanics, and any other person of color. Dames of Destiny exists because there are gamers that ridicule and put down women with -blam!- jokes and sandwich jokes. Black history month still exists because black kids are getting gunned down in the streets, and are not as recognized as as-good-as white. Your post is the reason we need black history month and dames of destiny, because you can't see that they aren't equal in society

Did you also protest the feature on dads of destiny?

Edited by Semperfi1999: 2/26/2015 6:42:04 PMFirst off...............I am not sure why this is even an issue. Really does it matter that much? Sounds like they just want to have fun without having to deal with losers/kids/teens making stupid comments to them. I have played many games with many women and have enjoyed joking with them as I would with any other reasonable gamer. Secondly although I am sure many of them may in fact be feminists that does not seem to be the main push of the group. Sounds like they just dont want to deal with losers that many females have to deal with in games. Against no issues...even if they were an all feminist group...really doesnt matter. If women want to get together and play a game only with their female friends thats fine with me. Just because they are in said clan does that mean they never group up with a guy? Who knows honestly still not sure why this is a bid deal. They have a unique requirement for joining the clan so it would make sense that if Deej is highlighting clans this clan would have more interesting questions to answer than most. I mean if my clan got asked for an interview there would literally be nothing to tell. Most of us had played other games together and we thought it would be hilarious to note the importance of your spaceship. In the end.......I dont understand why this thread was even made. Makes no sense...not sure how it actually affects people that they decide to allow members based on gender only. I mean seriously....there is no clan chat or way to check how many clan members you have online in game. Its a severely under developed area of Destiny.......If they ever needed a sword bearer because they dont have someone on that can do it then I would be happy to assist. Because frankly I dont care what clan your in...if you can listen to the call outs from the swordbearer then I am game.

I honestly don't give a -blam!-

The group was created because many girls feel unwelcome or even unsafe playing with random male players who often make sexist remarks. It's a safe place, not a no boys allowed treehouse. I've been lucky enough to not encounter that much sexism in gaming but it happens and it makes gaming a lot less fun. The group is a great idea for a safe and fun place where girls don't need to worry about being judged based on their gender.

104 RepliesEdited by VIC: 5/7/2015 2:44:37 PMA big benefit to clans like this is that they provide a safe place for minority/less privileged groups. Before you lose your head, allow me to elaborate. It's no big secret that the male population on open, public, gaming forums vastly outweighs the female population, yet the percentage of male vs female gamers is much more even. Because of this, females are much less represented and therefore don't have the same benefits that male gamers generally enjoy. For example, the "fake geek girl" stereotype still persists, while the "fake geek guy" stereotype only exists in satire. Men are generally the assumed default on public game boards as well. It's funny (in a really sad way) that majority/privileged groups say, "if we just ignore problem X, it'll go away" as if they have to live with problem X; all this does is maintain the status quo, which, regardless of your insistence, isn't equality. It's even more funny (and more sad) that replies in this very thread prove why such safe spaces should exist. The above can also apply to other minority/underrepresented groups but since the focus is on women, that's where I'll keep it. Go ahead and form a "men only, no girls allowed" group. Nobody is stopping you. You'll look like a bunch of petulant twelve year olds but with that sort of mentality, I doubt many women will want to associate with you anyway. Edit: This got a lot more hits than I thought it would and since someone just liked it again (I got a notification), it brought the post to my attention again. It's well worth clarifying, if you have a clan that's all dudes because you're creating a judgement free zone that you feel comfortable in, you share a common interest, or you just want to have an online fraternity where you can just play with the guys, that's totally cool. My post was really meant for those that would be exclusionary just to spite another group of people. That's immature, mean spirited, and not cool. I'm a but more cool-headed today than I was when I originally had this conversation and I apologize for implying otherwise. I really enjoyed the heated discussion though and thanks to everyone that participated.

You guys suck

Eh, let it go man, double standards seem to be the norm now a days. Like when African American comedians rip on whites all day and Kramer drops the N bomb and Sharpton is all up in that. Just gotta deal with it and move on.
-
That's the world we live in. Male only groups are sexist and discriminatory, but female only groups are praised. It's true for just about everything, not just video games.
-
I'm a DoD, dad not dame and I see no issue with the prerequisites to be in the said clan than any other.
-
When I was a Bouncer, there would be Ladies night..they would get in free....that was just to get them to show up. But of course, they could get in free anytime...just show your Tits and in you go.....lol

9 Replies1) You're clearly a white male (like myself). Stop being a moron we literally get every on this planet handed to us, there's nothing wrong with an all girls clan, or Deej highlighting it. 2) That being said, the much more serious issue is Deej's response that he's enjoying banning people about that thread, it's just yet another example of how our community manager keeps acting like he's God's gift to gaming, he continuously talks us down and act like an arrogant prick. So TDLR: Stop being an ignoramus and Deej sucks.

Edited by Nen Rx: 2/26/2015 6:56:03 PMYou have a right to your opinion and I respect you for making your stance known. I disagree with you on this matter. I am no fan of feminist groups (as a matter of fact, they usually irk me quite a bit). But I am also no fan of political correctness and all the different sensitivities its prominence has spawned in the last 30 years. Women should be able to have a gender specific clan if they want. Black men should be able to have an all black men clan if they want. Dad's should have their own. And yes, even young white males that are college educated and career oriented (No! Not Whitey the Devil!!) should be able to have our own clan if we want (even though a vast majority of the general public would think that clan is somehow racisist for being "all white"). I think it is great that there are clans out there that support all types of people and are open to any and all genders, races, religions, and socio-economical backgrounds. That is very noble and a beautiful thing. But we, as people and gamers, should have the liberty of choosing who we want to be in a clan with. And Bungie should have the liberty to choose who they want to highlight on their web page. If you don't like it then fine. Feel free to voice your complaint. But I cannot agree with your stance in saying "Bungie shouldn't be featuring Dames of Destiny." They should be able to feature whoever they want.

Edited by Kagami: 2/26/2015 6:44:07 PMReaper, I understand how you feel and the disgust this whole issue. But your not alone all throughout history of man situations such as this has sprung up with different types of groups. My advice just stick with people you like and ignore the rest you be fine nothing on this game worth sweating over.

6 RepliesEdited by Tissic: 2/26/2015 5:19:50 PMYou're right these feminazis need to be put in their place

There will never be equality if society people still need to belittle and complain about peopel that are not the same as them. Until men in genral, can act in a sane a mature manner, womens only clubs will always be a thing. Is it right? who cares! Is it very very sadly needed? YES. God Damned Misogynists!

Edited by Wolfy: 2/26/2015 5:58:43 PMDoes it even affect you that there is a girls only clan if you're male? No. So I dont understand why its such a big deal for people to have an environment they enjoy dwelling in while you still carry about your Ghorn seeking and raid grinding and whatnot elsewhere. Baffles me how blown out of proportion this is, as if some are thinking its totally spliting genders 100% in random match up or something. Its 2015 btw lmao

It should have been a subarticle at best. Deej is worse than Rosie O'Donnell at reporting the news

2 RepliesCan people saying that 'nobody' complained about Dads of Destiny please be aware that actually I did complain about it. I know I may count as a nobody for the overwhelming majority of you (and you may be right) but I found the exclusion of women in that instance to be sexist. I was raised by my mum, working as a single parent, and kept thinking 'hang-on...shouldn't that be "Parents of Destiny", not just the male kind???' I had a few scuffles online over this issue and cringe every time the clan is mentioned. They seem like nice fella's but for God's sake...talk about being blind to inherent prejudice! So the correct term might be 'almost nobody' complained about it. Just sayin' as I feel like I'm starting to not exist.
-
the issue is that people take issue with it imo, i don't care who i play with if i can relate to them and enjoy my game exp while they are around.
-
Edited by Bofeious: 2/25/2015 6:42:18 PMIf you're a white heterosexual male congratulations you're part of the only group on the planet that's still allowed to be discriminated against! Only when it happens to us it's called "positive discrimination"?
-
1 ReplyDads of destiny should become Parents of Destiny. Then they would be gender inclusive.
-
Is Dad's of Destiny not the same? Or clans that are now requiring a minimum grimoire of 2600 that are segregating the community...are they not the same? But who gives a damn? There are more assholes who would give someone shit for being a 'squeaker' or a female than exist here to be supportive and accepting. Why shouldn't Bungie focus on a large clan with a specific goal of creating a safe environment for a certain demographic.
-
If only we still lived in a binary gender society~ Other doesn't necessarily refer to males exclusively. At least I would hope so~
