  • In my opinion, it's not because I'm lonely or never talk to girls. It's not because I'm gay or anything, I just think the armor looks better on a female character in Destiny.

How is playing a game that provides character customization any different from those that provide only a static character ? I don't see male gamers getting flak for playing games like Tomb Raider, Metroid or Bayonetta.

    • Why not? It is a fictional game and the character in it is not me. I make a variety of characters in games that allow it. My third character is a currently a male robot. I am not a robot either :)

If somebody make my character a different race or species than they are in real life, then nobody seems to have a problem. But when they play a female even though they're a male in real life or vice versa, everyone seems to act like it's unnatural. Why? Sometimes I want diversity in my games. Plenty of people play the opposite gender in Mass Effect or Dragon Age but nobody has a problem with that except here.

    • To me gender never really mattered much when it comes to in game. Most games that give you the choice don't give one gender any advantages over the other, so I go with which one makes for a better fit for what I'm going to do with that character. For example when I picked up destiny for the first time and deciding on a class I went for the Hunter, whose style appeals to me the most. Since I knew would spend most of my time playing as the Hunter, I decided to make it as close me as I can. So a human male with brown hair and green eyes. When I decide to try out another class, a Warlock, as a side project, I decided on making it similar to my Hunter but feel different aesthetically, if only in my mind. I had already chosen the human as a go to race because I'm not a fan the Awoken unnatural skin tones and the Exo in my mind don't fit as magic users. So wanting my Warlock to be as physically distinct with all this in my mind, I decided to make her a female. That's my extremely long story and I'm sticking to it.

I've always played as male characters in games. When I started playing Destiny I decided to try something different. The game was supposed to be unique and you create your own legend. Figured I'd make my legend female. After doing that, I noticed the female models just look better in the armor than males. So I made all 3 of my characters female. EDIT: And I am married with 3 kids. My wife finds it funny. It drives my son crazy(he is 6), he thinks I should play as a boy(his words)and my two daughters think its cool.

    • The armour looks better on the female model. Especially true for Hunters and Warlocks. Male Titans look fine ( although a bit to short and stocky for my liking ).

    • The first two are the same really so 51% sexy. Here is my reason why guys who are not gay should make female characters....I don't like looking at other men's asses.

    • Why exactly would it matter what gender your character is? If you're trying to personify your character to be you then it makes sense. Then again you'd also be left exclusively to humans as well right? I assume it's the society we live in that makes men reluctant to make a female character and vise versa but you should really determine why it is that you care in the first place.

I have a male Titan as my main, and two females as hunter and warlock alts. I don't really RP at all, but I like to imagine a backstory/motivation for my character. That influences a lot. But even bigger, I just wanted it. Had nothing to do with any of the reasons on the list. There's a great George R.R. Martin quote, "You know, I've always considered women to be people." That's a thing, too. I don't understand why people are like, "I would rather look at a female's ass for hours than a male's." 1. Most of the time you're in first person mode anyways 2. A good portion of tower time is spent in menus 3. If you're standing still, the camera zooms so that your mid back is the low point 4. With the exception of some titan class items and the first hunter class item, your ass is covered anyway With that being said, in Mass Effect, Shepard as a female is a ton better just because the voice acting is so good.

          • I tried to make a Male out of my Hunter and Warlock. The customization for male characters is just so ugly, so I made female characters.

Because I'm and older gamer and the games i grew up with pretty much all you could choose was male protagonists. I cant remember another strong female lead besides Samus in the 80's. Its now boring to keep choosing males for like the thousandth time. Also the story options in in games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age were much more fun as a female. The part in ME2 when you headbutt the krogan is so much better with the female Shepard. And if you didn't romance Traynor as a female in ME3 you got it on with the wrong crew member lmao. Edit: It boggles my mind that so many in this day and age have a problem with this. Also a lot seem to see it as a negative, how is it negative? Are you nancy's that closed minded, shallow and sexist? Does it really hurt your enjoyment of the game? Did a female guardian bad touch you or something?

            • Female awoken Titan isn't sexy or overtly feminine looking, but is curvy and dances smoothly, so she's still feminine enough to remind you of her gender. Her size also makes her look appropriate because she uses guns that aren't tiny compared her, and she doesn't look too bulky to be agile. The huge shoulder pads also make her clearly a force to be reckoned with and I like that. I think that looks more badass than any other class, sex, and race combination, and I want my characters to be the most badass they can possibly be. Hunters look best as male in my opinion because the whole boobs thing just doesn't work for me in a character that's supposed to be battle ready. I get that it's from fitting for stealth, but unless my character has some sexual or romantic aspect to her, I don't think showy armor works. And I just don't like warlocks. I can totally understand being a female Exo for the awesome dance though. Awww yis

            • None of the above. I simply made a Female avatar because I have two of the same class, and it help me remember which one I am on and who has what gear.
