So I was unable to play destiny yesterday since the internet at my hotel wasn't working.
While I couldn't play, I felt sad and upset that I couldn't do my bounties or the daily. I felt like I missed out.
After I got back home today and played destiny for a few hours, I felt really happy and satisfied.
Something bugs the shit out of me though, that I missed out on one day. The one day I haven't logged in to play since launch. Its really frustrating.
The world hasn't ended, nor has my life. I just feel like this game has taken the top position as my favorite pastime. Its usually some sort of video game anyway(or book, movie, TV, board game, music), its just interesting that a game designed to be so monotonous can leave me wanting to come back again and again.
I think they found out a way to inject crack into my eyeballs, just from looking at my TV screen.
Thoughts are welcome and thanks for reading my first post.
I appologize if this ends up in the wrong category.
Edit: You guys are awesome. Thanks for all the comments so far :)
Edit 2: Holy shit guys we're trending the top 10. Way to go addicts lol
Edit 3: When I created this post, it was mainly for my own need to address my connection to this game. I felt I needed a way to see how far down the rabbit hole I had gone, so to speak.
I welcome all comments regarding others personal attachments (or detachments) from all types, not just gaming. We are all capable of indulging too much in something we enjoy. The key is to not let it consume you and find help if you feel it might.
That's the hardest part for me. Identifying and admitting when I start to indulge too much.
The comments posted here since this began have allowed me to see that WE are not alone. WE are united.
I want to thank everyone for their support, their information, their stories and personal experiences. Its you guys that I'm addicted to. You guys make this game fun.
Now get the F out of here before I roll you all up and smoke you.

While working full time, I play ridiculous amounts of hours. So much that I have trigger finger where my middle left finger is almost frozen in a bent position when I wake and aches throughout the day. I have to exercise my digits often to keep them loose so I can play each night and almost a marathon on my days off. It is the incredible feel of the mechanics that I think is what is addicting me and maybe you. Coupled with the awesome graphic art and the soundtrack and I believe that is the "crack" recipe for our addiction, lol. I am 54 years old by the way.

What you're describing sounds like a drug. Destiny is a drug and it has now been confirmed! BAN DESTINY ASAP

want to find a partner(s) to help power level chars 1-20 in a 1-3 days tops. I have a 2 Titan and 5 lock with tons of gear from my main to put on them when they hit 20. I know you can go 1-20 in a day with 2 doing the missions on hard. GT is Jodymayo message or inv if you're interested.

This game is a lot like playing the Powerball Lottery, the times I don't get to play are the times I convince myself I would have been rewarded big time.

The dark below has cured my addiction I hardly play now I gotta say thanks bungie for releasing a less than satisfactory dlc to open my eyes and it might not even be bungie it could be Activision idc they won't change they will rip you off and feed off your addiction till they bleed you dry

Shut up meg

Lol you are not the only one, bro. But there are more things which always make me wanna play that game. It's not just doing bounties.

As long as you feel you got your money's worth. I've probaly put more hours into Destiny then in ant other game. Still, it left only a very shallow feeling of satisfaction. I'm glad I haven't played this week, puts things in perspective. Can't wait to play Dragon Age or the new MGS, as Destiny has taught me that I value story over everything else. Destiny is just like cocaine, only cocaine is more fun. Good thread - spread awareness. And seems DeeJ also replied to this thread, with a political correct statement of course. Would be really interested what his ethical stance is as a human being on the whole Pavlov/Skinner aspect of Destiny.

well, a fella needs something to do. it keeps us out of the pool halls. on the other hand, one must prioritize things. family, work, physical and mental health should trump entertainment.

"Honey, can we talk about this after lunch? I need to do my daily."

Edited by ZSquaredDoe: 12/15/2014 7:15:22 PMI am in the same boat as you. Honestly it's not the monotonous bounties, the redundant strikes, and the lackluster story that keeps me playing. it's the people. Playing with people gives me an indescribable sense of enjoyment. Like completing a daily event with people you've never met and waving to each other in a form of "thank you". Doing a raid with a group and all experiencing a sense of synergy after taking down Crota. Getting to lvl 31 or 32 and having so many people invite you to help them out. It just fills me with joy and makes me want to keep playing.

700 hours since launch. Id say im addicted. I go to bed at midnight every night. Last night i stayed up till 8am beating crota twice. After several failed attempts all week i finally found a good group and had to take advantage of it.

232.5 hours on a single character while having a family, full-time job, and going to school full-time....yeah, I think I'm in the same boat as you man.
-
The game play so refined and fun. That's why I log in everyday.
-
Yeah I'd say it's highly addictive, I've been playing it everyday since I got it too which probably isn't good for my eyes, but still I enjoy playing the game.
-

Nice to see all the comments. Guys, please don't take this lightly. Addiction can shatter everything you love. When I sensed this taking hold, I dumped the game and avoid any friends who play. Think seriously about taking these steps.
