I feel I'm addicted to Destiny

So I was unable to play destiny yesterday since the internet at my hotel wasn't working. While I couldn't play, I felt sad and upset that I couldn't do my bounties or the daily. I felt like I missed out. After I got back home today and played destiny for a few hours, I felt really happy and satisfied. Something bugs the shit out of me though, that I missed out on one day. The one day I haven't logged in to play since launch. Its really frustrating. The world hasn't ended, nor has my life. I just feel like this game has taken the top position as my favorite pastime. Its usually some sort of video game anyway(or book, movie, TV, board game, music), its just interesting that a game designed to be so monotonous can leave me wanting to come back again and again. I think they found out a way to inject crack into my eyeballs, just from looking at my TV screen. Thoughts are welcome and thanks for reading my first post. I appologize if this ends up in the wrong category. Edit: You guys are awesome. Thanks for all the comments so far :) Edit 2: Holy shit guys we're trending the top 10. Way to go addicts lol Edit 3: When I created this post, it was mainly for my own need to address my connection to this game. I felt I needed a way to see how far down the rabbit hole I had gone, so to speak. I welcome all comments regarding others personal attachments (or detachments) from all types, not just gaming. We are all capable of indulging too much in something we enjoy. The key is to not let it consume you and find help if you feel it might. That's the hardest part for me. Identifying and admitting when I start to indulge too much. The comments posted here since this began have allowed me to see that WE are not alone. WE are united. I want to thank everyone for their support, their information, their stories and personal experiences. Its you guys that I'm addicted to. You guys make this game fun. Now get the F out of here before I roll you all up and smoke you.

    • Destiny is a virtual Skinner box. Look it up if you need clarification or just trust me it's on the internet it must be true.

      • the loot system is designed from a study on addictions that was done prior to WoW. if you feel addicted that is because the game is designed to give you a reward every few hours and emulates the cravings of a real addict altering the chemicals in your brain. almost all games now are using this distribution method to keep players playing making video games more addictive then ever. candy crush and call of duty are other examples that use this design.

        • This game can be like drugs. I know it's not good, but I keep doing it/playing it. But I made it through addiction before and honestly this game is pretty easy to quit.

Bungie has found a formula that is like Coke. Shallow and empty of real content, it makes you long for more. The more you get, the more you need. And as every good dealer, they have to tell you to not to eat or drink to much of it. ".. find a balance .." Such dishonesty! They did this on purpose. Small regular incentives to play on, very rarely a big "loot drop" by RNGesus. After that, continous upgrading and replacement. Planned obsolesence, artificial scarcity and "rat in a Skinner box" are the keywords here. You are a labrat, a slave to Bungievicious marketing and addiction scheme.

          • I'm in the same boat, I don't understand how so many people hate on the game when it's so fun, there is no perfect game out there but I have found a community of gamers that I enjoy playing with

          • This can be a much bigger problem than people are often willing to admit. I think you ought to take a step back and decide if Destiny is really worth the risk of that kind of compulsion. I did that and decided to quit. You might not, but you ought to be aware.

          • Problem is Bungie play it as well, and we all know what happens when a junkie takes his own product...

          • I AM MORE ADDICTED TO DESTINY THAN ANYTHING EVER BEFORE!....check this out, the internet was down at my house over the weekend, and i just could not face not being able to do the quests and the bounties, even more so i really wanted to visit xur for the weapon he had. So in order to feed my addiction I took my xbox and my TV round to my friends house, as i was loading up my car with said items, my dad shouted out of the window, "get a life son!!!" HAHAHA at this moment i knew I WAS ADDICTED!

          • I'm 33 and struggled with addiction all my life and been hooked in almost everything. I'm addicted to destiny but on the bright side I'm not drinking because a drunk guardian is a dead guardian. I guess what I'm saying is that this is the least dangerous addiction I've ever had. My Gf hates it but would she rather me be out like I used to doing who knows what?

            • The problem is that this game gives you a visible goal and makes it look like it doesnt take long to reach it. You want those exotic guns? Go for it, there are only 20 of them. You think this is accomplished fast but i have only 10after like 200 hours. You think the better you get and the longer you play the bigger are your chances. And every day you miss, is one less day of having a chance to reach this goal. Very deep psychological, addiction trap. I think this is something to be discussed in mainstream media or something. We are in a field of entertainment that allows for the developer to interact with our needs and feelings of satisfaction. Sure if you can prevent that, there wouldnt be casinos anymore but i think this topic needs more attention

              • I feel the same way too. I'm usually at my girlfriends on the weekends, and ever since the DLC hit, I feel like I suck because I'm not getting the rep with Eris or whatever. I've missed out on 3 waves of dailies and it feels horrible. I've actually played Destiny with my GF over and ignored her. Never done that before. She says she doesn't mind since she just paints, but eh I'm not that stupid to believe that. I can see she feels hurt. Sigh. Once I hit level 32 (or max level) I stop playing unless it's Tuesday. However, right now, it's horrible. Blah. I hate feeling indecisive about these things.

of course it's addicting. activision is behind this game. they want you to play and pay as much as possible. everything is down to a science nowadays. why would this be any different? we are rats in a Skinner box.
