Because at the time it was one of 2 Solid and fun multiplier games on xbox live. Halo 3 and COD 4 were most of the market. Now the market is so saturated with sequels. That none of the current games stay "New" for long.

Everything about it.

It was ahead of its time. Just think how long it was in the top 5 most played Xbox titles. The sheer number of daily players. Halo 3 helped bring a generation of gamers to the next gen. I only bought a 360 for Halo 3.

I didn't like it the most but it was fun.

3 RepliesEdited by A 3 Legged Goat: 3/25/2013 5:32:15 AMHalo 3 added the most to Halo comparatively, from Forge to Theater, online Campaign Co-Op, Support Weapons, equipment, file sharing, greater vehicle sandbox (elephant, hornet, chopper, etc.), and more. This spawned more machinima communities, custom content sites, and many competitive leagues as well. Halo 3 did unto the community something Halo had never seen before (and likely never will see again). I also consider the Firefight in ODST to be an extension of that great co-op community feeling. However, Halo 3 wasn't without its own problems. Matchmaking had really annoying gametypes, cheaters, awful maps, and laggy connection. Some people felt the Campaign lacked in cohesion. Others found Forge to be clunky. But having stayed atop the LIVE charts for years and out-selling all the Halo games to date, I don't think anybody can deny that Halo's prime was glorious.

The multiplayer maps were more memorable than anything they've made recently. I'd love to jump back in but too bad there aren't many people playing.

Because you were forced to watch me teabag you.

why? because it's a fantastic game!

Halo 3 was one of the single most fun online experiences I've ever had.

It might be circumstantial for me; Halo 3 came out when I'd been on Bnet for just over a year and had made a lot of friends on here. Playing with them on a Halo game and making friends of their friends was the most fun I've ever had in a game. Endless and sublime weekend custom games were the norm. Matchmaking was fantastic fun, even if I wasn't that good back then. Forge and Theatre provided endless social options for customisation and reliving incredible moments. Co-op was insanely fun. My only qualm with the game was that the Campaign sputtered out so rubbishly. 2 Flood levels? Cortana? No, Bungie. The rest of the Campaign was a lot of fun. Maybe slightly underwhelming, given perhaps the single largest marketing push for a game I've ever seen. Then again, maybe I was feeling it more than I was seeing it, considering how enormous Halo had become for me.

Gameplay.

Coming from a guy who actually really liked Reach, too... (don't hate me plz) I feel like so many loved Halo 3 the most because it was the last "classic/original" Halo experience. Like others said, it wasn't changed/bogged down by anything else.

custom games, and the matchmaking community was superb.

I prefer Halo 2's multiplayer and ranking system, but forge was amazing in Halo 3.
-
Edited by j0sh291: 3/25/2013 3:05:56 AMBecause the campaign was awesome, multiplayer was balanced in it's own way. Custom games changed with forge mode. Also new weapons, new locations, new vehicles...

Custom games were amazing, coop multiplayer was added, forge was added, and the competitive multiplayer was amazing. I am sure I am missing some things, but that is the general things that made it better than the previous and later Halos. Though to ask such a question OP means you probably didn't play Halo 3 or sucked.

Edited by Postwarbean: 3/25/2013 2:54:38 AMBecause. OT: I liked it because the custom games were just incredible, I would play nothing but them on the forged maps.
