I would like more bows that do cool things. Some of the exotic bows are so damn annoying to use I just can't!
Here's my proposal for a new bow:
Special ammo
Does more damage and applies subclass verb debuff on precision hit or kill.
e.g. "precision hits apply random light debuff (volatile, scorch, jolt)";
Catalyst adds: "kills create an explosion that applies a random darkness debuff (slow, sever, unravel)".
Seeing as only kinetic weapons normally apply both light and dark for transcendence, this may have to be a kinetic bow.
If it has to be a business decision to make it only work on prismatic, fine, or the catalyst only work on prismatic, that's okay.
If it's too hard to code random damage what about consecutive, so it cycles damage type
1. solar with scorch
2. void with volatile
3. arc with jolt
etc....
What it should not do is require excessive amount of set-up. Trinity jolts after every kill and people love it. Le Monarque poisons on every shot and people think it's okay. Verglas starts to proc after 1 kill, Ticuu's only takes 2 shots to explode.
Hierarchy takes way too long to proc and the payoff requires you to stand on one spot?!?
Wish-Keeper takes a bit too long but i'm okay with it but people hate it.
The reason I add the comparison not just the idea is that I'd love if it stays fun to play. Most guns don't require you to change playstyle so being able to 'run and gun' with the bow, so to speak, would be essential to it's viability. It doesn't have to be super powerful, I'd take something that's just useful - to be able to apply debuffs outside of just the same skills.
I'm not a weapon designer but having compared it to other bows I think it's viable, is it not?

I told you people hate bows with a passion. You have 0 upvotes because these forums are mostly pvp gremlins and haters. They don’t even read your post to see what it is about. Just a downvote because the word “bow” triggers their PTSD

#didntread Nope go & play Skyrim 😂

2 RepliesI would take a Strand Bow with Grapple Rounds.

I always thought a bow that could switch between a solar incandescent, void volatile, and arc volt shot would be super cool. Like changing elements based on the arrow used.

1 ReplyEdited by Freshly Baked Bread: 9/6/2024 7:21:55 AMI was talking special ammo bows years ago but they could potentially wreck the PvP sandbox more than special ammo linears. They would be brutal to try and conquer and would have to be made almost unusable in PvP for them to thrive as devastators in the PvE sandbox. Which would be super fun. Lemonarque is in a good spot and Trinity needs a buff or pve needs a nerf for it to reign the best add clearing machine of all time. Which it should be. It’s S+ tier. I would say a solar special ammo bow. Precision hits build up a charge and deal scorch damage. Has intrinsic firefly. Buffs like radiant build this charge faster. When charges are full Hold Reload to enter “blast mode.” Precision hits and kills cause massive solar explosions that release submunitions on precision kill. Solar damage explosions also do extra damage to Single targets but the buff will have to be refreshed due to not maintaining kills. Same draw time as an adaptive frame. Can be crafted with one perk besides intrinsic firefly. Including archers tempo or archers gambit. Your preference. Intrinsic origin related to IB/Cabal Something like “Flames of the Wolf” Or “Firestorm of the Hunt” IB exclusive exotic perhaps? Lord Cayde

You know, I used to have the same idea for a shotgun but changed it to different bullet types each time instead

Bows need pvp and PVE damage buff

Bows are just way too weak atm in PvE (and PvP, yes incoming whining because I said PvP) This episode pulses are king really or handcannons. Did you know a 120 does about the same crit damage as a bow? In PvE that is. That alone makes it not worth it. But they can’t make bows too strong, or they’d be stronger than special weapons. Right now a 120 handcannon can do half the damage per shot of the Choir of One ads precision dmg. When people, and the people here are not smart and just look at numbers, would see bows doing the same crit damage or close to that of Choir, or close to a 140 sniper they’d outrage. Completely ignoring that bows now have dmg dropoff, and what feels like a hidden accuracy nerf. On top of the huge time it takes to shoot an arrow. No, bows will never be great again. Not in PvE or PvP. You can thank PvP for that and all the people who look at a number and say hey!!! Thats too high!!! Especially 120 scouts now do more damage per shot than a bow I think. 2 rounds per second btw, without having to awkwardly string an arrow every second. Maybe what could save bows PvE wise is make them special ammo , revert the nerfs and like double their damage per shot at the very least.

3 RepliesSo it's the old hard light mega buff in bow flavor.
