Match game was an attempt to push LFG and Twitch gaming. By providing a mixed bag of opponents that stops ONLY one Guardian from completing a mission, because it requires specific burns, and specific anti champion abilities, and bungie will often layer those to prohibit a solo player from having the ability to pass. [spoiler]Nothing wrong with twitch gaming but by pushing players to create teams, you also pushed traffic to watch high name streamers Which is free ad revenue. Free ad revenue has been proven to drive traffic and profits up. However bungie is close to shooting themselves in the foot [/spoiler] Now we are seeing that in other ways Bungie is tryna curate how people play, and force us back into LFG scenario

There's diversifying gameplay and out right promoting a specific playstyle. The issue with the match game modifier was that you needed all burns to compete in content. Now they're just introducing mods that require you commit to only one burn. Is it actually too much to ask for sandbox elements to just work and let players sort out how they'll best fit together for synergy? All of the elemental pick ups have their own base benefit, and even if they didn't synergize with your build just spawning them might help support someone elses
