Exotic armor focussing - cost vs reward (stats)
While the recently announced ability to focus exotic armor is a great addition to the game,
I’m not as convinced the costs equal the rewards.
If you’re asking us to fork over an ascendant shard or an exotic cipher for this, it doesn’t take a crystal ball to foresee that players will be livid if they get a 56 stat roll armor piece.
While I get that the stat points and distribution are RNG based, there should probably be a minimum to these when focussing for exotics.
It doesn’t have to be top tier.
But a bare minimum of a 62/63 stat rolled exotic would at least feel equal to the cost of the resources being put into it (seeing as those aren’t the easiest to come by).

1 ReplyI’m sure they will give more specifics as that draws closer to being implemented. We are still have a while before it’s a reality so let’s not jump to conclusions. It’s something everyone wanted and lord knows most of us are swimming in the mats needed. I think it’s common sense there will be a baseline on the overall level.

6 RepliesBeing a solo player that doesn't spend countless hours grinding I don't have many shards to use, so when I saw what they proposed I hated it. I never do lost sectors and only do nightfall's on hero for the matchmaking (so its quick and easy), so when I get an exotic (which is rare as f***) I don't want to waste my few ascendant shards just to feel let down on some crap stats especially if its going to cost 3....

4 RepliesThe part that annoys a me is now we spend an ascendant shard PER FOCUS and still 3 to MW it if it’s good. 4 ascendant shards per “good exotic” is stupid let alone one per focus hoping for something that doesn’t suck. We only can hold 10 to start and they’re not exactly easy to get for a lot of players. I like the idea but the costs suck

1 ReplyYeah, but if they did that they wouldn't be able to inflate play time stats by forcing you to farm those advanced materials and time gating progress.

2 RepliesIt’s too high. An enhancement prism would be fine, but most people aren’t rolling in Ascendant Shards like I am. And this is just the yearly groupings… Add on top of that the additional Exotic Cipher if you want 1 specific armor piece. Exotic Ciphers are extremely rare. There’s usually 1-2 in the season pass and then it’s just 1 per week via a quest from Xur. This is already a problem currency for players trying to obtain old exotics. I see this being a pinch-point again with the focused decoding. Idk, moving it down to 1 enhancement prism and some shards for the yearly focus, and 1 shard + some shards for the specific focus.

2 RepliesFor me, focusing exotics is another, "Meh." Change by BungLe. For the reasons stated, mostly. I don't believe For a second BungLe will make any effort to ensure the exotic is a GOOD one. And since I've been playing since Day 1 in D2... I already have my good exotics. So for me, this change is pointless and far too expensive for me to want to mess with it just to get hosed by BungLe yet again. 🤷♂️

2 RepliesNormal Focus should have a min stat of 63 and Precision should have a min stat of 65. You should not have to even get a 60 if you are paying to focus an item.

3 RepliesMy shards sit in my postmaster season after season, now I get to use them. As long as it’s possible to get 68, though it may be rare, I’ll be happy.

Cipher should be a solo master LS reward

They should have made it a bit like Glass Needles from D1. So instead of focusing a new piece, just let us re-roll what we have. Then they could have added cost on top, for example to freeze one stat costs 1 Ascendant shard. So like the Mobility on a piece you have? Freeze it but re-roll the rest. Maybe even allow freezing of upto 3 stats. Exotic cypher guarantees a higher total roll than what it was already. So for 3 shards and 1 cypher you could fix 3 stats you like, re-roll the rest but know you're getting a higher number even if its just by one. That would work for me.

2 RepliesI think that they should just let you craft exotic armour pieces and spec which stats you want on the armour. If it’s just gunna be a random roll with a low roll that’s gunna be brutal like you said

1 ReplyThe funny thing here is any Titan or WL who takes the game seriously already has killer stats, even on Exotic pieces. Idk if there's a single Exotic where I can't at least hit 10/5/10 on Resil/Recov/Disc or Strength. . That's more than good enough for any Titan player out there. The fact I have a HOIL where I've maintained most of my fragment autonomy and can still go 10/5/10/9 on Resil/Recov/Disc/Str and a Synthos that goes 10/5/8/10 kind of seals the deal that I don't need to waste Shards focusing anything. . This is Bungo once again throwing Hunters a bone and nothing more. And I'm cool with it.
