Solstice Grind is ridiculous

Putting aside that this event has almost literally zero value to anybody that already has well-rolled armor sets, let's go into this assuming that I am a newer player without good armor sets, or I'm after a really specific set of rolls that I don't have yet. If, for whatever reason, I want an armor set of Solstice armor, I have to grind out 120 Ashes per piece, or at least 480 Ashes (assuming you get the perfect roll first try). Even if you know cheese grind tricks (which could get patched out), that is still quite a bit of time investment. Every single reroll costs 120 Ashes. This is an absurd amount of time to ask considering how much of the game doesn't give Leaves. Then, we have to ALSO go "convert" leaves into ashes by playing Bonfire Bash, adding more time upon time. This is known as "busywork". But then, what if you want to get armor for your other characters? You open up the solstice card only to discover that for some ungodly reason known only to Bungie, your kindling progress is not account-wide! You have to do all 24 challenges from nothing on all 3 characters. Some of these challenges are quite time-consuming, like killing 100 Guardians, or doing TWENTY (20) heroic public events on the Throne World, or hoping to all that is good in this world that the RNG goes your way and Fallen finally show up in Bonfire Bash. And now you have to do all of these three times. AND go grind Silver Leaves, which don't even drop everywhere they're supposed to. Why? Simply why? This glorified chore list of busywork is an insult to any player. Even streamers might be hard-pressed to do this for 3 characters, and they play D2 as their job. Forget about the drama regarding the paid pass, why aren't people angry about how much banal chore grinding Bungie is asking of them? That's what people should be mad about, not a $10 glorified cosmetic bundle.

  • Glad I don't bother with any of these "events" anymore and far out, I feel so much better for it. They are so not worth the grind for stuff to just sit in the vault or some seal or challenges or whatever. -blam!- cares. The hamster wheel grind can get stuffed.

    • The cheese actually takes no time at all lol the ashes are the least of the issue for that reason specifically.

    • It literally only takes two days per character if you’re taking your time, just do one a week.

      • Every Destiny event is just "go play a ton of old content that never gets updates" We need D3 this game has ran its course.

        • Not to mention that artifice armor exists. So even if you did all the grind and got perfect sets, you’d likely still have to replace them eventually anyway.

          • i've been playing some activities and happened to have enough materials to upgrade one of the armor pieces, so i did it. I upgraded the arm piece on my hunter just to check the glow. Then i went to the eververse store to check what i could buy. I checked the coloured glows and noticed i could buy for bright dust. I don't know if it is a bug or intended, but i could do it. Do just enough to upgrade one of the armor piece, and then you should be able to buy the glow with bright dust. I could, on PS5.

          • This Solstice is the easiest ones they've put out yet and its not even close. Even the first Solstice in 2018 was much worse and that was still fairly tame in the end. Go look up the old objectives for 2019, 2020, and 2021. THAT'S a grind. This is fairly light grind aside from a few things but you can crank this Solstice out so much faster than all the previous ones its not even close. 2019's blue set took about as long as it takes to finish two whole glows this year based on average timing. For players that really can crank stuff out? Whole set in glow this year before you'd be done with blue armor in 2019. And don't even get started on 2020, that was actually ridiculous. I've put in an hour of casual play with Solstice so far and already have a glow basically plus 6/24 on the title. Like....this is obscenely easy. This is something I will get done in the matter of a few days while still having plenty of time for family, friends, work, and just other stuff rather than D2 or Solstice grind.

          • It’s 2 days in and I’m moving through it easily and not putting a ton of time in. You should check SM pages where many people who have the seal done explain how to multi task the triumphs and easily unlock the kindling.

            • Yep, like others have said, don't do it friend. It's not worth your time or sanity. It's without doubt the most vacuous piece of garbage that Bungie have had the temerity to release as bonafide new content A fkn travesty

                        • Honestly, Solstice has always been a grindy chore fest. The only good change they made is that you can just straight up by the armor glows after like 10 minutes of playing, with bright dust and not have to play this boring game any more than that lol. Literally made my day that i was completely done with all 3 characters (except the white glows, who cares) after lierally half an hour. And now i can just play actually fun games and touch grass cause its frickin summer and the last thing i would have wanted to do is work a second full time job (destiny 2) during this time of the year. The entire game shifted towards this unreasonably dull and grindy gacha game. Absolutely garbage.

                          • It's not a grind for vets for sure. If I needed specific armor stats, I'd just focus some engrams at the Crown with Ghost mods. I would even debate the usefulness of the grind for new players who may not have the Crown focusing option too. A new player leveling up is still swapping blues and the occasional purple without any real commitment to an armor set yet, but I suppose the Solstice path COULD technically get you a nice set. I've always felt like D2's events were more about selling themed cosmetics and other useless crap, but who knows right?
