How do you get better at Trials?

Nothing I use works. If I try to use any of the weapons the other team is using, I still lose. It seems like I'm always going up against players with a 4+ KDA and a 50+ Flawless count while I have a measly 1.5 KDA.

  • Pick a loadout that suits you but is also somewhat meta. Most ‘bad’ PvP players are usually rocking an auto and a pulse rifle that cover the exact same ranges and ttks. Even double primary can work but pair things like a scout and a smg to cover all ranges. Have a character build with stats that are important - recovery, discipline etc. LFG, LFG, LFG - being solo is just handicapping yourself. If you can’t find a team then make one with people at a similar skill level to you. Communication and team play is the key to success. Play life - don’t run into sniper lanes / over extend without support. Even in solo queue with no comms this is possible by watching your teammates behaviour. Play 3’s - Comp and Elimination with help you get use to the flow of maps etc

More playing, less of the complaining. Find teammates who you can communicate with, understand how they play, and how they can compliment your playstyle, as well as how you can compliment theirs. Also, if one team is using a specific weapon and just smoking you with it, it’s probably because they’ve practiced using that gun. Don’t just switch to it because they’re doing well, especially if you’re not used to it.

  • practice a lot in comp, it may feel demoralizing to constantly die/lose but try to see every loss and death as a learning opportunity and not a sign that your bad. we all have to start somewhere and no one is gonna be amazing straight away. if you put in the practice and hard work you'll find yourself getting better and better

  • Practice, practice, practice. If you really want to get into it, record your gameplay and study your deaths and make corrections. Find one loadout and master it so you always have one to fall back on when you use other load outs to counter play. Also realize you will have a skill ceiling that’s your peak, others will be better and you can’t win them all. Take emotion out of the matches to avoid tilting

  • Focus on 1 or 2 aspects of your game to improve. Commit to doing those 1-2 things right every time you can. Watch videos of your gameplay. Notice you’re starting to do those things well. Pick 1-2 new things to work on. Some examples: Committing to playing and moving near cover instead of running out in the open Committing to sliding or jumping when entering a sniping lane to make yourself hard to one shot Commit to using your class ability more frequently, whether a rift to survive(I admittedly only use healing rifts), a dodge to become invisible, or barricade to hide a revive or block a lane or to be an obstacle for your enemy to bump his shins on. If you keep training at things, you can throw away any rules you made for yourself and seamlessly slide in to different load outs and play styles to counter whatever you face.

Radar, the 3/4ths cover rule, teammates & do not walk into open lanes but rather have your opponents walk into your lane where you are aiming. ^ all of your strengths you need in trials. Do not think you know how a match should be played… just play with your teammates while doing all the above. This is coming from a bad player that sees great results when I focus on said fundamentals. When I don’t, when I stop paying attention to my team or radar or both… it is not only feeding the other team free kills, I am letting my teammates down. In todays trials… one peek into a lane is giving the opposing team an advantage. It is more of a chess game per the radar colors and directions rather than being a better shot. If you peek, take damage… retreat and reset else where. As far as weapons… that really comes from your play style but I would recommend a full auto rapid fire scout if you are losing to hand cannons even though you are using one with equal stats. The number one mod used in the game is rapid fire and in the last year it seems to have had a buff with said mods. And do not let other people fool you, they are abundant in the game. Short range.. up to you and your confidence level. Last word is, well.. last word but definitely keeps players away. The counter is a fusion rifle. Shotguns are literally on the player now. Their talent is at show for the majority of final blows. Hand cannons go to the mod users or those better at peek shooting. Smg’s are good.. but up to the player and their recoil control. Pulse rifles are very strong. The higher the rpm, the better. Just work on the fundamentals. You will notice a huge difference. Will it get you solo? Eventually. Once the fundamentals are engrained in your play style.

  • If you're staying on console, you're probably playing against people with modded controllers or using m&k inputs. Unfortunately with the game in the state it's in right now, there's no real way to tell where you need to improve.

    • 1. Die. A lot. 2. Keep playing. 3. Observe what others are doing. 4. Observe what others are running. 5. Die some more. A lot more. 6. Keep playing.

Edit: watch ifrostbolt’s solo flawless runs. You can learn by watching how he plays, and he also does a good job of explaining his thought process.
