I’ve enjoyed destiny since beta D1 but this is getting frustrating. Trying to grind the catalyst for forerunner just isn’t worth it. It’s a slog and just not enjoyable. Should be given to you? No but this just ruins the game and makes me less likely to play. Same thing with the rng for stuff. For example 32 completions of VOG and even a master completion and no vex. The drop rate is atrocious. Running dares if eternity 80+ times to reach rank 16? Not fun. Balance this stuff out. I can never recommend this game to friends because it’s simply too grindy and not fun for a big portion of it. People who have jobs, kids, etc, simply don’t wanna grind something that isn’t enjoyable. The point of a game is to be entertained and have fun.
As I apparently need to make note. no, I’m not trying to blow through it in 2 days. I play other games and play with friends here and there on D2 because it’s so grindy. But seeing what it has become it’s a deterrent from playing often.

Yeah, Bungie kind of changed how we get exotics back in early D2. Now exotics are easy to get, and catalysts are the grindy or difficult thing to get and to unlock. I doubt things will change, get used to it? Bungie said they are leaning towards the hardcore crowd, less casual, like vanilla D2Y1.

1 ReplyI think I’ve been spoiled by FF14. God forbid Bungie respected our time or allowed us to play other things, it’s such an abusive relationship. It’s such a grind for that catalyst, It’s not even skill, or smashing yourself up against a wall, it’s just a treadmill man. Let’s do the math Streak starts at 70, and after 5 goes up to 175 a match (Providing you don’t break it playing other game modes) 15000 xp to reset, so that’s about 85 games. Let’s be generous and say games take 10 minutes, which considering my fastest is 9:40, I reckon the average is probably closer to 12/13, and I’ve had games pushing 20. 10x85=850 minutes That’s 14.1 hours if you don’t play any other game mode, being generous with time for games and not accounting for matchmaking or going to collect your rewards when the post master fills up. Bungie, respect us or lose us, your call.

2 RepliesI just completed the Forerunner catalyst grindy bit, ie, reach Level 16; am now plinking away with it whilst pootling about to get the final tally of kills to complete it. I was more interested to acquire the asteroid ship / equator ghost, rather than the frag grenade aspect. Was it worth the grind? For me, it was! But not for the PvP’must have’ awesome slayer weapon, more so for a bit of fun playing DoE - and to get the HALO weapons, and ghost / ship. Now, as for the grind when it comes to raids vs. the absolutely atrocious drop rates for completion weapons - eyes / vex m / etc., I just can’t be bothered. I don’t do raids for (mostly) that reason. And I rarely bother to chase exotics / seals / stuff - because most of the weapons get nerfed shortly thereafter; or ‘removed’ - Recluse / Luna / NOtF/ etc. - so what’s the point? My vault is full of such excellent weapons that are a reminder of why ‘the stupid level of grind’ is just not worth it. In fact, as a (mostly) solo player, there’s now more stuff that I don’t/won’t do, than the mix of vanilla stuff that I do do! 😁 And I’m okay with that. I already have / had most of the ‘must have’ toys…the few that I haven’t (yet) got…I can live without; or, I can revisit my D1Y1 vault - ‘cause it’s loaded with them all! 🤖 Just my 2d worth. YMMV cheers! MDGA 👈🎄

Yeah, I really have put the brakes on how much I play now. I dont really care about the titles or triumphs. Plus 90% of the time I never felt like I was making progress towards anything. The new Dares thing? Ive done like 5 to 7 of them, and im done, not enjoyable enough to grind out a billion of those to open chests filled with ugly gear.

Bungie forgot how to makes this game fun. Just boring repetitive seasonal stuff like halloween crap, the olympics style crap, the edz crap in the sky. No new maps, no new strikes. I played the the xur eternity playlist a couple of times and have not felt the desire the play it again. It's the same formula over and over again, go to this location kill a bunch of bad guys and got this other location and kill the same bad guys over and over. The only thing I enjoyed recently was Mayhem and before that was the one quest in a long time that felt like a real fun video game was the Dead Mans Scout rifle quest. Crucible would be entertaining enough if the "matchmaking" wasn't so terrible

To Bungie, RNG and grinding are content. Design philosophy decades out of date. I remember grinding similar thing in EQ back in the lates 90s/early 2ks.
-
The whole game is a hamster wheel these days with the only goal to keep us in the game as much as possible while wasting our time. Their only goal is to satisfy their investors and higher ups with high player numbers leading to micro transaction sales.

13 RepliesIt's a videogame. When the grind feels like a grind and doesn't feel like you're gaming, then it's a failure. That's my 2 cents. Success as a videogame should feel like you're gaming even when it's designed as a grind. Be better! 2 cents. Else, it's just another failure, like what OP said about this game. Failure! 😂😂😂

What's a fun
-
It’s so bad, prime example is the forerunner catalyst. Why tf do I wanna grind boring -blam!- 6 man activities that don’t even have enough adds to keep 6 people amused. Dares are as boring as any other activity they’ve recently made.
-
Yep I’ve been grinding dares for weapon drops but it’s so unrewarding that after 3 runs I’m so burnt out that I get off
-
2 RepliesI ran dares 80 times just trying to get the gensym knight armor on my titan. I’m still missing the helmet if you could believe it.
-
2 RepliesThe best thing about Destiny is the grind. It's also the worst thing. Yeah, It doesn't matter if you break it up over 3 months the squeeze isn't worth the juice. That's what the game is now. Go throw 1000 snowballs in a lost sector. It kills the game. A lot of requirements should be cut in half. It burns people out.
-
1 ReplyIf it wasn't grindy it expose how paper thin the game really is. Beyond raids the pve is boring and is nothing more than playing same content over and over. Pvp is filled with sweaty flawless grinders, people that carry, streamers. New people don't touch pvp unless they want to get farmed. They need huge exotic quests and catalysts based off RNG to keep us grinding and "playing". They could fix a lot of the issue if they brought back armor sets from past seasons/raids and put them behind activities. The push for fashion and cosmetics, but sunset or remove gear? Really? Let GM or Legend nightfall drop Leviathan raid armor for cosmetics. Let master dungeons each drop a different seasons armor set for cosmetics. There's just nothing of value to grind for right now. Oh...sorry...I really want that matador with hammerforged, accurized rounds, blah, blah, and blah.

When talking with others about D2 I tell them not to become involved with it. There is not enough fun for the time spent playing. For years I had a Destiny decal in the rear window of my car. Last week I removed the decal.

The grindiness make you feel like you're chasing your own tail, not fun at all! That kind of grind gives a player burnout faster than anything else, at least for me. Why can't Bungie understand this? Destiny 1 was no where near as grindy, and it was very successful.

The power level grind needs to be removed.

The game is not grindy at all. It should give you a sense of accomplishment. I am not try to be mean or seeking to be conflictive with your opinion, but what would you like. Generally you put in the work to accomplish a goal, and feel a sense of accomplishment for completing the goal. Having everything given to you from the get go, or even pay to win leaves you feeling empty and makes a game feel void of accomplishment and fun. A game should not only make you work for something but should take your time over several weeks or months to get to your goal. Honestly what your saying reeks of instant gratification which is the opposite of playing a mmorpg type of game. If this is how you feel, there are other shooter rpg looters your could play. No sense in complaining when you have other options right? Maybe destiny is not your game.
-
The point you made about not being able to recommend this game is why it the population always falls off a cliff after a few weeks. And unfortunately why they game doesn’t grow. It’s fun for a bit and has great appeal. But most people simply don’t have the time.

53 RepliesI don't really agree, there is at least 300+ solid hours of content in the game without grinding like crazy. This includes raids, seasonal story lines and campaigns. I think that's not a bad deal. It doesn't compare to MMOs like world of warcraft but, it absolutely has more content than any other shooter on the market.
-
2 RepliesThe return on investment in regards to player grind plummeted when D2 released and never truly recovered. D1 just did it 1000000x better.
-
1 ReplyYea I’m feeling a little burnt out right now, I’ve been playing control for 3 days straight searching for the Suros Regime catalyst. I think I’m over 200+ games and still nothing. I wish we could choose some of our rewards. I don’t know why Bungie put EVERYTHING into rng but yea it’s gotten old, so old I’d rather just pay money for the catalyst at this point so I can go back to ”enjoying” the game. But that’s just me.

1 ReplyAbout the dare grind....you know you have plenty of time right? WQ only coming out on the 22 of February Raids drop rate...personally I never had issue with them since I enjoy playing them and aren't only in them for the exotic chance...its not a perfect model...but currently they can't do much They can't just sell it for spoil or make it a # of run needed since you can just checkpoint farm.honestly whatever they do peoples will complain that it's still too hard or they are handing them out...which kill the raid (GoS is barely played anymore since its exotic can be acquired in 1 run) Also its a looter shooter game...thats kinda what's its about
-
DoE isn't time gated and will stay once WQ launched so there is zero reason to grind that activity now unless you have nothing else to do. Plus I'm pretty sure we will have a double points week as well....

it definitely sucks but it is what it is. i try to tell myself to do at least 5 runs a day...so far 3 is my best b4 i get real bored and just play another game or do other pinnacles. i read that it'll take about 60+ with a streak.
