The harsh truth a lot of you need. (Trials)

Hard to swallow pills : you all refused to play the mode before and now expect yourselves to suddenly be great at it. On top of this you assumed match making meant you'd suddenly start winning even though you're bad at the game mode. Furthermore for God knows what reason you haven't learnt that lesson yet so you think freelance means you a bad player will suddenly start winning. No if you're bad you're bad and you need to practice to get better. No trials isn't for the sweat Lords anymore, you can literally get all the rewards aside from adept weapons and mods while losing constantly. Bungie made fantastic changes you all just refuse to practice, refuse to take the blame for loses often blaming your team of randoms or accusing the enemies of cheating or no lifing. Most of all a lot of you actively refuse to use any form of lfg as well as never using fire team voice chat during games effectively shooting yourself in the foot from the get go, and then you're shocked you lose more than you win. This season bungie is not to blame, sweats are not to blame, streamers and content creators are not to blame, YOU are to blame. Edit : I want to throw this in here because I did not expect even 1 reply let alone the hundreds it's getting and I have no intention of replying back aside from this edit. Soooooo many of you are quick to get triggered and miss understand the tone of the post. (Shout out to the large amount of people that have left positive comments I see you <3) Anyways the clarification is this; there is nothing wrong with being bad we all sucked when we started and that's a fact, the problem is the majority actively refuse to put any time at all into practice in order to improve and instead immediately rush here to complain. Not 1 single time did I ever say opening up to solo and duo players was bad for trials idk why you people think the "1t W4s DyiNg B3fOrE s0loS gOt L3t iN" is a valid argument here given that's not in the slightest the thing I'm addressing. Yes it was dying, yes I'm happy with the population increase, but your attitudes are gonna just kill it again. And finally arguably most importantly something I left out of the original post cos it was already longer than I wanted it to be; match making exists in trials purely as a form of practicing, introducing you to the game mode, and warming up before joining a team that is all. Is it possible to solo a ton of wins? Yes. Will the average player be able to do so? No. Can you solo flawless? Yes. Should the average player expect a solo flawless? No. Ayo I final thing why so many replies being like "bro the changes were good" yeah my dude I straight up said in the post the changes bungie made are fantastic lmao we agreeing

  • TLDR at bottom cuz this was way longer than I expected: I agree with your points on performance in the sense that you have to try and learn from playing. I am not a great Crucible player, and you can check my game records to see that (I was better close to two years ago on PS4, but then I took a break for a while, switched to PC for Beyond Light, and only recently got back into PvP). However, you'll also see that despite my struggles, I keep playing. Each game I play, I try to work on my technique and learn something from opponents. This is a mentality that needs to be adopted by the 'weaker' PvP players - its supposed to be a competitive mode, and there are certainly many players who fail to grasp the concept of competition. With that said, I strongly disagree with the 'YOU are the problem' point you've made. As I just said, you made fair points about the weaker half, but you know what? The stronger PvP players also have to change their mentality. For every post from a mediocre player complaining about Trials being too hard, there's a post somewhere from a good player complaining about SBMM and the Flawless pool. You're clearly active on the forum, so I imagine you saw it last week - complaint after complaint about the flawless pool being unfair. The same 'great' players who tell the lower performers to get better came here and complained that they had to play people who were equally as skilled. I've made an analogy comparing this to Major League Baseball before, because the biggest flaw in the logic of 'good' players is that they think when a bad player faces another bad player, the game is easy for them. MLB teams have farm systems composed of minor-league teams to develop players. Imagine that you take the best high school prospect in the country, and put him on an MLB field against MLB competition when he turns 18. Guess what - he's gonna get blown out. However, if you put him at a lower level - say, High-A ball in the minors - he could likely compete and succeed. There's different levels to competition - a High-A player vs. a High-A player will be competitive, as will an MLB player vs another major leaguer. However, an MLB player vs a High-A player will be a blowout in favor of the major leaguer. Both the high-A and MLB games are competitive, but the MLB is played at higher stakes. This is where the flawless-pool and rewards system comes in. The 'good' players should have an option to play at the higher-stakes level of competition, and there should be an incentive for them to do so. Bungie hasn't figured out the second part yet. Personally, I think there should be a 5th passage available from Saint after you go Flawless. When you buy this passage, you only play in the flawless pool, but have a much easier way to obtain adept weapons. Furthermore - by all means, players have got to improve. Its important for any lower-end player in any PvP game to build their skills and become better over time if they want to compete. With that said, getting stomped 5-0, game-after-game (since you're constantly matched against so-called 'sweats'), is not going to help them improve. Have you ever been in the weight room? If you've never lifted before, and you try to bench-press 315, guess what -- you're 1.) not going to lift it, 2.) not going to make progress, and 3.) probably going to hurt yourself. There is no benefit to getting slaughtered because it doesn't give players time to analyze the game, and test a counter-solution. Progress is made by playing people of equal or slightly greater skill, not by A.) playing weaker competition, or B.) getting blown out by players out of your league. The only scenario in which option B helps develop skill is if you're getting blown out by a teacher who's giving you constructive criticism to improve. That's my take on the situation. Both parties need a different mindset. TLDR: Bad players need to accept where they stand, and gain an understanding of the competitive nature that comes with this type of game mode. They need to seek to improve and build their skillset in order to compete, instead of complaining that the mode is 'busted'. Good players need to understand that These bad players can't improve if they get stomped religiously. Further, they need to stop complaining about playing other good players since they want this mode to be 'endgame' for the 'elite' players - a good player stomping a bad player is not an elite performance; that is the expected outcome and is simply normal.

The shock and horror on peoples faces when someone suggests -albeit bluntly - that they should take some time and improve at the game instead of just being handed endgame pvp rewards. That being said, the matchmaking for everyone at any skill level is an issue. I don’t dare solo queue in anything, because i know that my high combat rating/elo will drag the worse players to my team with the assumption i’ll carry them / average the skill levels out...when in actuality i’ll lose because I go 25-9 and my tms go 4-18. Gotta sort that out for everyone.

LMAO, this is funniest post I've seen on here for quite a while. Hey, why don't we get all the solo players stop playing (since they're apparently the problem) so it can go back to being a toxic pool of sweatiness with an ever decreasing playerbase then this guy can make a post blaming the solo players for not playing the mode... I mean it's hard to miss the point so much, it's actually impressive. Kudos for that, I guess. Lol.

      • I’ve gone in there with randoms and what you’re saying it’s the truth. You can always tell who the people are with little to no pvp experience. They do they dumbest things. I turn my mic on to communicate and they refuse to and don’t listen. You’re not winning trials if you don’t communicate, or don’t learn map control. People who don’t play pvp come in trials trying to get carried off the backs of others and do nothing but hurt the overall team. Then come on here complaining and blaming Bungie.

      • Damn, right in the pride for all these players lol. Its all true and people need to realize this in order to then make the decision to improve. People are delusional thinking sbmm or freelance is going to improve their experience, Thats just not how the world works.

      • Exactly, it's easier for the forum complainers to whine about sweats, matchmaking, teams, meta and everything else under the sun then to blame the real reason for thier lack of lighthouse visits: themselves. They expect to show up and have the adept gear drop at thier feet with no effort, they think THE endgame of pvp should hand out its rewards for them Sim because they que'd up for it
"every" season bungie is not to blame, sweats are not to blame, streamers and content creators are not to blame, YOU are to blame.
It's the players attitude thats to blame every season. Generally they want loot for less effort. They don't play for the challenge. It's all a transaction. This is why the playerbase at large doesn't get better. This is why they shouldn't whine either. Put the work in and commit Or Stick to patrols Your choice. To OP: Don't worry about the likes man. You know when it's 0 it's because you struck a nerve. You said the truth and people can't stand to read it. I made a topic months ago about the community at large - (a much harder pill to swallow if you will) and got 0 likes but 255+ responses. It stayed at top 5 for a good week. Lol.

          • I agree here. I feel like some people have really unrealistic expectations that this matchmaking or some future matchmaking will solve all their PvP problems. Bottom line is bad players and bad and good players and good. Trials is a gamemode populated with good players.

              • I agree with everything. But when my team leaves round 1, or they are season level 200 but don’t know how to properly play angles. It’s frustrating when I try my -blam!- off but my teamates suck. In most of the games I played, I did well. I pulled my weight. I shouldn’t have to carry. But that issue is with the MM atm, so we shall see what they do next week.

WOW! Very well said, well mostly. I can actually agree to a certain extent. I'm a day 1 Destiny 2 player who's never played Trials before this season. I've played comp, iron banner, etc., obviously it's not the same. With that said I'd consider myself an average PvP player who's able to hold his on while playing with like minded individuals. The OP hit it right on the head. I'm AMAZED at how many people do not utilize the tools that Bungie has provided. One of the main tools being in game voice chat. I've always used this tool and especially in Trials. Honestly I'm of the belief that if you're not utilizing all of the provided and available tools that's been provided. You have absolutely no right to complain about Trials; especially when you wont even use in game voice chat as a solo player. Believe it or not this actually would make your Trials experience better, as communication is everything. I'm a Destiny 2 vet and I've had to go back to the drawing board and reevaluate my PvP game, in addition to practice with different loadouts that excel in team encounters. My KD is trash for valid reasons; I solo quick que as I just can't invest to much time in LFG for Trials. Usually in LFG the author's require a specific KD. I'm just not there yet. However, I use LFG for everything else and have used LFG "once" for Trials. I really hope that most aren't giving the OP a hard time. He may sound harsh but he's right, as I've experienced what he's communicating first hand. It's very frustrating when solo queuing up for Trials only to find no one on your team has the basic voice communications enabled.

              • This is true for people at the bottom who never ever play pvp but still feel entitled to the rewards, out of some sort of victim complex. It is also true that the people at the top feel entitled to stomp on everyone else, and so instead of admitting defeat and trying harder whenever they lose to another sweaty team, they divert blame to the "terrible matchmaking". Both sides need to understand that pvp is meant to be competitive by its nature, and you can't just expect wins and rewards handed to you for free.

              • Trials this season has been better than I ever believed it would be. I’ve never been flawless and the last time I played Trials was for an armor glow where I just had to get 7 wins cumulatively and not consecutively, so I kept resetting the passage at like 1-2 wins, which still took like 30 games. I was looking forward to the solo queue. Figured so many others were too, so I would have a pretty good statistical chance of being matched against other solo players most of the time. Making it just a bit easier to get the occasional win. I didn’t realize the opportunity for loot would be as good as it has been. The could have a win rate of 30% at best, but I still feel like I got showered in loot. I love being able to target farm for certain loot too. I feel like I got seasons worth of loot in a weekend. I do think the matchmaking could ease up a bit at times. Maybe give me a break where I’m not only facing flawless stacks, getting stomped for more consecutive losses than I have wins all weekend. But I’ve gotten so much loot that I don’t mind that I’ve surely made getting to the lighthouse easier for plenty of teams.
