Sounds like you opened a booby-trapped chest. Patrol zones on Europa will occasionally spawn chests that, when opened, will yield no rewards and will instead give you a debuff with a timer that starts counting down. These chests can be identified prior to being opened as the prompt to interact with them says something along the lines of ‘suspicious chest’. To rid yourself of the debuff you have to find and open another specific chest in the same zone (you should receive a waypoint on your screen). If you fail to do so within the time limit, you die. Yep, that was it alright. I thought the destructive just meant the codes self destruct and you lose the buff, didn’t realise it was death. I was so confused, I thought it was to do with the fact that guardians can fall hundreds of meters and survive but die if they fall 2 meters and land on a rock.
