You have a 0.011% chance (that's 1/9072) at getting the exact roll you want on a bottom dollar. Let that sink in. Sure, if you have a handful of perks you'd consider "acceptable" (not insta-shard), those odds go up a little bit but is that really saying much? If you are just chasing the final 2 column perks and ignoring the first 2 and masterwork, that's still a 1/144 (0.69% nice) chance to get both of those perks together. And of course, if you can even get a new playlist gun to drop (good luck), you only even have a 1/3 chance of getting the gun you're looking for. I used bottom dollar as an example for these odds, but it's a similar story for any of the new playlist weapons.
Here's the good news: Bungie put new guns in playlist activities that would be worth using. They have good base stats: better than many of the in/slot guns we currently use, but not as good as good as endgame variants like trials weapons. They have the potential to roll with excellent perks.
Bad news: odds are it'll take a good while before you even get a usable version of the gun you want (here usable means one you wouldn't instantly shard the second you get it), and odds are you'll never get the roll you'd actually want to use to fit your playstyle.
On top of that, with weapon level caps in place, your gun becomes a little less valuable every day. After 2 weeks to a month of dedicated grinding, most players will give up the grind and have a bad taste in their mouth from an unsatisfying experience. After 2 months, we'll be wondering what kind of loot is coming next season- because the closer we get to a season end, the more we feel like the gun just isn't worth it anymore as its one icon closer to being unusable in endgame content. The system demands generosity. Not: here's an extra 1% chance generosity. We're talking Oprah handing out ipads to the entire studio audience level generosity.
In its current state, the grind for these new weapons is so frustrating because it highlights everything that can go wrong with destiny. Specifically here were looking at great ideas with really poor execution.
Here are some potential ways to fix the grind: make one of the new seasonal guns drop after each activity, give us boons to chase the guns we want or limit the perk pool, give us a way to earn double last column perks, let us chase the gun through umbrals- you can even require us to play the activity to get the appropriate lenses, give us increased drop rates or selection agency as we level up the relevant vendor...
All these options are low hanging fruit that could quickly change a frustrating situation into one of the greatest accomplishments in the game we've seen in a long time. But we're on a clock now. Making these kinds of changes next year doesn't really help us anymore.

1 ReplySo im guessing no one actually likes grinding

1 ReplyI've played 70 hours of crucible, reset my Valor rank 3 times in this week and STILL I've not got either quickdraw or snapshot roll frozen orbit, I maybe have gotten 6-7 to drop. This is honestly disappointing.
-
2 RepliesMy biggest disappointment with the playlist weapons are that they are nothing but exact copies of blue rarity weapons with a new shader on them and bungie goes and calls them new weapons, this is nothing short of just being lazy with loot
-
1 ReplyI've done 31 nightfalls this week, one shadowprice has dropped for me, the drop rates are ridiculous.
-
1 ReplyOver 50 gambit, which I hate, NO bottom dollar. I give up already.
-
2 RepliesI kid you not me and a clan mate have grinded about a weeks worth of gambit since reset to get a good bottom dollar I got 3 and he got 4 but neither of us got a decent roll my problem with the system is if your sunsetting shower us with loot so atleast we can play with the new stuff cause doing 80 games of gambit in a week is like nah bro. Nearly got the title gilded from just chasing the gun

3 RepliesIt's all rng, I see the possible loot drops as a bonus after completing activities, they're never guaranteed so if i get one yay if not oh well better luck next time. I think if you go in chasing these drops and specific rolls you pressure yourself too much and get disappointed when they don't drop. I just play and try to have fun, I played Devils Lair on 1270 yesterday for about 6 hours without expectation of drops but focused on armour and weapon builds to have fun... trinity ghoul with catalyst and overload arrows is so amazing for that strike. So after 6 hours, I got 8 shadow prices, 3 third axioms, 5 of the new seasonal sidearm I can't recall the name and a whole lot of exotic armour that replaced 2 of my commonly used exotic armour pieces with higher stat ones. 2 of the shadow prices were amazing perk combos and a axiom with a God roll pvp perk combo.

4 RepliesThey should return to a skeleton key system but designed for umbral engrams. Play gambit: get 1 gambit charge. You can use these charges to focus umbrals. 1 gambit charge is a confirmed gambit weapon. 3 charges lets you get one of two weapons. 5 charges adds an extra perk option in the final column for the weapon drop. Just like it is for the battlegrounds engrams.

1 ReplyObligatory, BuT tHeN yOu'D cOmPlAiN tHeRe'S nOtHiNg To GrInD fOr, response.

3 RepliesSpending hours with a full stack team in gambit over 30+ games just so one of us could get the Bottom Dollar only one person got it out of all the games we played, it’s annoying that for such a nice new weapon you pour everything into getting the chance of just one drop that never happens, hell I don’t care what role I get I just wanna use something new.
-
1 ReplyThese should be tied to the new vendor buff and be available for purchase at the correct vendor ie drifter zavala or shaxx still play list tied but a better grind also if anyone hasn't noticed guns actually sunset in 3 seasons not 4 which isn't a year
-
3 RepliesThe fact that I've recieved more enhancement prisms that are a rare drop in the 1270 and no gun drop with the gun drop being uncommon is so stupid. You would think I would get more of the uncommon drops then i would the rare but nope...
-
11 RepliesNot really here to agree or disagree here but I think it's a bit disingenuous to argue with using the worst case scenario via bottom dollar's drop. Have you done the math that proves all other new playlist specific weapons have that low of a drop rate as well? Also while yes it's pretty effed up that bottom dollar is that hard to get I think the bigger problem with Gambit atm is how bad the new aeon gloves screw up heavy ammo economy for the mode.
-
5 Repliesive done 35 nightfalls and 0000000 weapons, all on 1270. i have done 25 gambit matches and 000000 weapons. but you know i keep getting plenty of guns i already have that expire 1310.. way to go bungie.

1 ReplyExcellent post and great suggestions. Hope they pick up on all this feedback. I'm after the THird Axiom pulse rifle from the strike playlist. A higher drop rate would be nice but also cool if it could be through umbrals so that I can stick to crucible.
-
4 RepliesI wouldn't have a problem with it if sunsetting wasn't a thing, but I seriously have zero desire to farm for any god roll, especially with such a large perk pool. If a good roll drops great, if not I'll just keep using my other favourites.
-
1 ReplyDon't you have a 0.0011% chance of getting any specific roll? As far as rng goes... Yeah if you want a super specific roll where all the perks are tbe exact perks you want in a decent perk pool size and insta shard everything else. The chances are gonna be a little low. That's just how math works. With that said, a method to eliminate certain perks like with the lures would've been a great addition(assuming it actually worked and wasn't hugged)
-
1 ReplyThing is, if it's good enough to just get one with perks that are just sort of ok why get this gun anyway?
-
2 RepliesThey did this in D1 too. When Eyasluna was added into the crucible reward pool, everyone complained that it was impossible to get, so after many months Bungie finally upped the drop rate......by like 5%. It made no difference. They want you to grind and waste your time. It's the easiest trick in the book to keep you running on your hamster wheel. And sunsetting is there to ensure that even if you get your god-roll, you'll be back in one year to grind for it all over again.
-
1 ReplyThey should just give them the stars and shadow treatment cuz this right now is ridiculous
-
4 RepliesGuardians were asking for Unique loot to Grind for... Now you have Unique gear to Grind for... Careful what you Wish for...
-
2 RepliesYou seem to know a little about math if not a lot. Do my numbers seem correct to you? I am copying and pasting a post I did somewhere else with a small edit. Here is what I have figured for the combinations of the Bottom Dollar. 36 possible combinations first perk 21 possible combinations second perk 12 possible choices third perk 12 possible choices fourth perk 145,152 possible combinations for this gun. I wish you all good luck including myself on obtaining exactly what you want. Happy Grinding! Also I am no mathematician so if someone is more familiar with combination and permutation formulas then please by all means correct me.

1 ReplyI haven’t bothered with gambit and frankly never will. But I recall the pvp pulse we got last season dropping like crazy for what I played, got 2 god rolls for not a lot of pvp. I was getting 1-2 every game. The large perk pool doesn’t seem unreasonable with drop rates like that as it lets the gun be a lot of different things but if that drop rate blows chunks maybe that’s the real issue
-
1 ReplyMaybe ur just not grinding hard enough ... your best bet is to quit your job or drop out of school ... you just need to take destiny more serious if you want the good stuff
-
1 ReplyI shall not be grinding playlists for a gun. I already have guns. They all do the same thing.
