Microsoft decided to throw shade at Sony over their chaotic rollout of PS5 pre-orders. Making a BIG production about how they wouldn't suprise the public and that they'd have an exact date and time for their rollout.
The result: A public relations and consumer relations....disaster. It makes Google Stadia's disastrous rollout last year look downright ORDERLY by comparison.
My schedule today allowed me to be online right at 11AM EDT when pre-orders were supposed to go live, so I thought I'd give it a shot.
My experience was exactly the same as Paul Tassi's.
Target's site was a Trojan Horse that let you go through the motions of pre-ordering but kept crashing when you tried to pay for your pre-order.
Best Buy crashed coming out of the blocks and didn't come back on line to activate pre-orders for over an hour. I tried pre-ordering one at 12:15....and they were already out of stock.
Amazon? Never managed to find anything but a placeholder site....before finally seeing that they were out of stock as well.
Meanwhile....on eBay?
Scalper Heaven!. All the "Confirmed Pre-order" Series Xs you could possibly want....as long as you're willin to pay about double the retail price.
Great JOB, Microsoft.
I think we're seeing why Sony did what they did. It wasn't fair....but at least some real customers managed to actually buy their product because the scalpers and their bots couldn't corner the market.

Who's Laughing Now?
Me because I'm not an idiot that buys a brand new console day 1 of its release when there's no games, tons of updates, and hardware issues

Good job I was holding off for the loyalty card promo at my local supermarket. I'll be getting a Series X for £305... at most... 👀

What are your thaughts on Xbox's Game Pass Service?

7 RepliesBoth Sony and Microsoft messed up.

1 ReplyThe last thing I want to do is hijack kellygreen's thread, but I just came across this. https://www.polygon.com/2020/9/22/21451484/xbox-series-x-preorder-one-mistake-s-microsoft-naming And people argued that Microsoft's bizarre naming structure for their consoles wouldn't be an issue. 1 ReplyI love the way this thread got bombed by an insecure neckbeard that wants everyone to know his gaming machine is better than everyone else’s

Me. With everything going on alongside the release I expected both to have issues. But, not only for Microsoft to get the same problem after their comments on Sony's issue, but to also have a bunch of people get confused over the name and order the Xbone X thus allowing bots to get more consoles too. Now that's hilarious.

Imagine caring about console wars

2 RepliesAre you bashing(use this term loosely) a company for having technical difficulties due to an overload of customers?

2 RepliesAll I can do is laugh; I remember seeing that statement from Microsoft. I cannot even begin to say how stupid someone would be to buy from the Scalpers on Ebay.
-
1 ReplyLet's hope the scalpers over on eBay have major headaches of their own come release day.
-
1 ReplyWell, I guess it's a good thing that I decided to get the PS5 like a month or two after release. Granted, the PS5 is not the Series X, but it had preorder problems as well.

It's pretty annoying that the PS5, Xbox and 3080 releases have been a mess.

Microsoft is laughing all the way to the bank...

4 RepliesIts not just Microsoft & Sony! It happened with 3d all stars and now charles can't play it 😞

1 ReplyI was kind of surprised by Microsoft's's reaction to the PS5 pre-orders as well. The issue wasn't when the pre-orders went live, it was that they sold out too fast. Having advanced notice wouldn't have fixed that.
-
Both Sony and Microsoft -blam!-ed up. They both waited far too long to announce a price, and/or release date for their respective consoles, which has created this last minute panic pre order situation.
-
This would've already been bad but Microsoft bragging about it before hand just makes it both sad and hilarious.
-
Microsoft and Sony throw shade all the time. This is not new. Some people got their preorder Sony/Xbox and some didn’t. Paul Tassie wines to much for my liking. Not surprised by either large corporation or by Forbes take on this.
