Armor sunsetting literally makes zero sense.

I’m sorry, but I really just don’t understand Luke Smith, and never will. His ideas are literally beyond comprehension and with no thought process whatsoever. So I have armor from forsaken right? I can change the appearance with armor ornaments to whichever piece of armor I want whenever I want, I can use armor 2.0 with forsaken gear as well. New gear released from Shadowkeep forward. I can change the appearance with armor ornaments to whichever piece of armor I want whenever THE F**K I want to right?!!! AND can use armor 2.0!!! WHAT’S THE F**K’IN god damn point in armor sunsetting if I can just use the same appearance and the same perks and setup I want? Because Bungie wants me to waste my time remasterworking armor every year? Nope... I’ll give them some credit on weapon sunsetting, but even that’s a lazy way to get them to play their game the way THEY want you to play, and not how you want to play. Too me that’s like playing Zelda, getting the Master Sword and after a year you owned the game eiji aonuma says “Yeah, you can’t use the master sword anymore it’s too strong” Here, fight Ganon with a Deku Stick. People who defend Sunsetting are also apart of the problem. More of us don’t want weapon sunsetting because there is more of us people who play Destiny on and off then there is who play everyday. You have to cater to everyone! Not just people like Datto who sit there and tell Bungie to cater to hardcore players. You cater to a smaller group of loyal fans, the less money you make? Logic right? Regardless I used to be a hardcore player and always knew that from the get go. KEYWORD “Used” to be a hardcore player putting hours and hours into the game daily, but now I can’t trust Bungie anymore. Oh well.

  • Overall I don't hate it. It's an annoying concept but what does it actually do in the end? It forces me to rethink my builds to work with the new loot, and then I'll need to grind up a good build for future seasons. It honestly doesn't sound horrible. As long as in the next few months I can get a decent build crafted out of Arrivsls armor, I'll be able to use that same build for three more seasons. From here on out I'll be looking to make new builds every season that will each be viable for a fairly long time before I eventually replace them. The same holds true for weapons, but instead of chasing true god rolls I'll just be looking for a roll that looks alright. On the subject of god rolls, they're dumb. Like really dumb. Like let's waste a week farming this one item for an extremely specific set of modifiers that will increase my overall effectiveness by like 2%. Could have just settled on that Wolfpack Rounds/Commando Pro roll but no, you needed that and the barrel attachment that gives the extra +5 to impact because the +4 wasn't good enough.

  • It's a great idea. It lessens workload on developers by allowing them to reissue old weapons as new weapons, albeit with slightly different perks, it puts you in a position that if you stop playing for more than three months, you can not just jump back in without getting your light level up (pls buy the booster, it's just $20), and it incentivizes buying the season pass each season so you'll have access to newer loot instead of running activities that only drop gear that will be sunset. Oh, you meant a good idea for the players. Yeah, no, that's not what sunsetting is about.

  • Sunsetting of weapons also makes no sense.

  • Sunsetting should have only effected legendary weapons that require completing a quest to acquire, like pinnacles. That's the targeted problem with power creep anyways, the super powerful and unique pinnacles. But Luke Smith took a steamroller to solve a problem that a simple hammer could fix....sunset ALL gear, weapons and armor?!... ...sounds like a lazy solution to me.

  • You mean it doesn't make sense to you. Sunsetting is not a new concept in MMO/RPG's.

Y’all get mad at me but I hear where you come from: armors and weapons are more intimate in D2 than in most games I’ve played But when you roll out a big update it’s really common to leave all the gear behind and grind again new gear with higher rating. Again this is common in the MMORPGS I’ve played. Now maybe it’s bad here in D2 cause they are pulling this to often while in other games it’s something that takes 2-3 years but then again, they have been releasing the same weapons for each season. Now this is coming from someone trying to resist change and sometimes change is good, I remember how I was utterly upset when they did this on D1(oh my dear ice breaker) back there was more aggressive with sunsetting every minor update but then you will find new weapons you will like (hung jury) and enjoy them too. Just give it a chance

    • This forum is so full of people that seem to have nothing but a tiny pea rattling around in their skulls. If D3 were coming out instead of Beyond Light, EVERYTHING you had gotten in D2 would have been essentially sunsetted. Same as when D2 rolled out, D1 content did not follow you to this new game. That would be like starting the next Zelda game with all your grind OP gear from the previous. Consider Beyond Light D3 and go shave your neckbeards, and stop crying about what needs to happen one way or another.

Hearing that the game pass will include new DLCs, I was thinking getting back into it, throwing 1$ every few months to these cucks, but since I know shit will be sunset every few seasons, it just invalidates my progress and weapons/armor I've grown to like, so it's no point. Whatever Bungie will release I will not be able to get back into it, not even F2P, because of sunsetting. Oh yeah, and vaulting too? -blam!- off.

The reason why I hate sunsetting is that Bungie made us jump through hoops to get these weapons (pinnacle) and are literally saying that our time spent chasing these weapons were wasted and we are stupid for doing it. They basically don't give a 🐀's ass about our time and effort. And don't get me started on the paid skins for some of the weapons that I could've just ripped up.

        • Bungle said in their post about sunsetting that they are doing it so they can reintroduce the cut content again at a later date. But they also said they are only cutting the less popular content. But if it's less popular, why bother putting it back?

I like to play my own way, and I understand the developers have a vision for the game, but they really might need to look into this more before they do anything official.

It makes perfect sense to Bungo. By sunsetting armour they are able to reissue it as new loot down the line. Bungo win. By sunsetting armour they are able to circumvent their lack of effort and talent and innovation and passion and skill. Bungo double win. By saving 100s, likely 1000s of hrs that would be spent designing new pieces, that time can be spent on the greed store. Bungo triple win. People really need to understand, this Bungo no longer makes games for the players, they don't have the ability to. All they can do is make games that benefit them ie their two tenets of greed and laziness.

            • When they release new armor, there just going to be re-skins of old armor pieces and make us grind for them.

            • I said this before but I’m going to say it again: I think the most annoying thing is that everything has an expiration date now. If it were just the fact that some stuff would be sunset, ok ... I can adapt to that even if I don’t like it. But I feel like my motivation to grind for god roles and masterwork armor and weapons is being impacted a lot by the fact that I know everything will be gone eventually. Not a good thing for a looter shooter.

                    • Bungie sees sunsetting as a win win. Less developer FTE time dedicated to weapon design and sandbox balancing all while keeping player count up through artificial grind to reacquire the same weapons with a higher power cap each season. Completely ridiculous all the way around. What a waste of time.

                      • It’s to prevent armor from getting stale Once you have one -or however many you want- armor sets masterworked, what reason is there for you to get new armor? Sunsetting is that reason. Does it make sense now? Also old mods are too powerful... 20% less damage... cmon. That’s gotta be sunset.

                        • I can see 2 reasons: Mods So you actually get new armour The chase for new armour rolls is quite nice actually, its the main reason I play- buildcrafting. Min max that stuff, yknow? I'm on the fence about armour sunsetting tbh

                        • Don’t worry. You can re-grind the same armor pieces and spend all of your materials masterworking identical gear. Since they are struggling to create new content, they decided to recycle their own content. And get ready for more D1 content.

                        • sunsetting is first make you grind for new weapons and armour. but second to help new players to the game so I don't really have problem with it.
