Everyone Saying Destiny 1 Was Better Was Complaining During Destiny 1

Title says it all. The new hot thing seems to be to complain about D2 by saying that D1 was better. But those of us who have been around long enough remember that during D1 the forums were exactly the same with everyone complaining, declaring the death of Destiny and dramatically quitting. Just in case you weren't around for D1 let's just run through some facts. -There was barely any DLC. Outside of the yearly big drops there were 2 DLCs for Y1, half of one for Y2 (it was so tiny it didn't even get a proper name) and none for Y3. -There were 4 raids total. 4. Compared to the 7 in D2. And if you don't want to count the raid lairs as raids then you don't get to count Crota's End either. -There were no dungeons. -There was no gambit. -There were 3 PvE horde mode things - all of which were more basic than the however many we have now. -There were far fewer destinations. -The ever changing upgrade system was sometimes good and sometimes a burning trash fire. -There were far fewer live events. Everyone on the "D1 was better train" never really explains how it was better. They just say "PvP was better" or "I loved running Vault of Glass 1000 times to get the ship". Or even crazier they just says bizarre things like the raids now have too many mechanics when Kings Falls was a crazy puzzle box of non-stop mechanics. Bottom line is the same people who complain about every little thing now complained about every little thing then. EDIT: After arguing with people for most of the day I have to say: I wish I loved anything as much as these kids loved the rare vendor refreshes in D1. This seems to be the crux of their undying and unmovable love for D1. Who knew? EDIT 2: People also really seem to like blindly repeating that Vault was "the last good raid". Which is a truly wild take. Oh yeah, and apparently the fact that forges are on rotation now is a complete deal breaker for people.

  • D1 was much better in many ways but I do agree the complaints were bad with both D1 & D2. D1 you leveled up to be more powerful. D2 it’s just a number. I preferred the D1 raids not just because of the raid its self but also the community. Lot of nice gamers who all left after D1 and never came back for D2. Armor and weapons were awesome. Raid armor provided raid perks. Raid weapons were also cool. Look at the D2 armor now. It sucks. Serves no real purpose. Stupid as hell. There just a few reasons. Personally D1 was much better in my opinion.

    • Gonna have to say that you might be full of shit! I can’t stand what Bungie has done to D2. I never had issues in D1 and so that is where I have went. It’s so relaxing. None of Luke Smith’s incompetence

      • Better than this new Destiny-fornite seasonal content?? Absolutely. Does that mean D1 was good?? Compared to season of (insert suffix here) well, lets just say that we had bright dust upon dismantling items, ammo synthesis, vendor inventory refreshments, arms day, 3oC, trials of osiris... won't continue listing features if you been around long enough you know D2 is missing stuff.

This post is mostly wrong but slightly right. Yes players complained in D1 because even then the game wasnt living up to what it could have been. That's about where the right part of the post ends. D2 is and has absolutely been much worse. From a FAILED launch of double primaries, 4vs4 pvp, long cooldowns, slowed movement speeds, weak exotics all of which we warned bungie we would not like. Op claims the horde modes we had in d1 were simpler then d2s? How? Archeons forge had multiple tiers, multiple bosses. Court of oryx had a ton of tiers and bosses all with different mechanics. Prison of elders? No further comment necessary. Compared to what? Blind well snoozefest where you stand in zones until the boss? Vex offensive with its 1 tier and 2 bosses that were essentially just swapped out with nothing added? Sundial? Dlc in d1 meant vendor gear refreshes. D2 dlc means tess refresh alone. D1 dlc meant new banner weapons of which many were top tier. D2 dlc banner weapons means nothing new added and simply bad gear. D1 dlc meant new banner armor, Y3 even had max stat rolls + vendor featured sets such as a set that revolved around hand cannon/sniper with int/dis or other sets so you could get easy access to a build. D2 dlc banner armor is Y1 stuff we already got back then and the armor is not close to max stats either making the event worthless. D1 had trials from HoW -> Age of triumph D2 dropped trials after Y1. D1 had factions throughout its life span D2 had horrible grind events then dropped them entirely. D1 had rift, combined arms and other modes, D2 not only doesnt have more modes - it didnt even bring those back. D1 subclass trees - fully customizable, d2 - pick 1 of 3 and deal with it. D1 guns - gunsmith and the foundries, omolon, suros, hakke, tons of different types of builds. D2 - outlaw/rampage or bust D1 had skeleton keys and unique strike weapons or armor. D2 certain strikes have exclusive loot most of which is ships or sparrows or Y1 guns and the only way to farm it is to grind nightfalls until you get lucky + then need to get lucky with perks + masterwork, etc D2 introduced exotic catalysts - awesome you'll say - until you realize catalysts are literally just buffs the weapon should have got for free and instead was locked behind another rng drop + a grindfest to pad player stat time. Even the events back in d1 we had fun objectives to do with them such as "tripping off the tower as atheon" and the like. In D2 they've become a eververse showcase alongside a boring grind baking cookies to earn a damn sparrow. OP also talks of the upgrade system which was never an issue in D1 but has seen TONS of feedback regarding cores all of Y2 and whose resources to masterwork have only become more grindy since shadowkeep...

          • People kept complaining during D1, they hated EVERYTHING! Now, they say they hate D2 even more. Personally i followed D1 development since at least 2 years before the release, and i got so disappointed, it was so different from what what they announced. I have no idea why people loved grinding so much Destiny 2 now is far better than D1 in almost every aspect, more content, the farm is better, the gun fight is even better. I am not a huge fan of this seasonal stuff, but since we can buy things à la carte, the game is no longer obsolete when you do not buy everything.

              • And yet they brought back foundational choices, such as random rolls and a triumph system. After so much time, old characters of legend are discussed/have a form. You want me to commend the collection tab that’s largely useless? Shall I commend them for finally allowing sparrows on mercury by year 3? I’m sure when enough time passes, we’ll get the old raid revive system. There’s basically 3 different eras of D2, because game systems were overhauled so often. At least D1 had some progression, D2 just takes and takes. You want more content? Wonderful, it’s here, empty as the void to chase what’s next. D2 now has temporary content, which is paid for. How much of “The darkness is coming” are you gonna take? We get it already. I was pumped by D1 Y3, now I’m at the same point in Destiny 2 and just stick with the 3 ritual activities. Too much change, and nothing sticks

                • The only things i miss from d1 are yhe following : -complete raid weapon sets (1nd not only 3 or 4 weapons that should have been from anoyher activity...aka sotp and forge weapons) -pvp sandbox (depens on what but most weapons were possible to use in a competitive way, and no super was incredibly godlike and unstoppable (maybe the pre nerf sunbreaker but it didnt lasted for so long) -better armor and weapon designs, d2 lacks originality and...honestly...70% of d2 loots is ugly looking. -strike modifiers that were actually fun and challenging. (D2 modifiers are always about making ennemies even more bulletsponges, while bonuses are..meh and only a few of those exists) -loots everywhere, whatever you were doing in d1 you had unique rewards, from pvp matches, to strikes, to quests, to challenges etc.... -And also the overall tess inventory, it was more accessible and most shaders/sparrows/ships were unique drops from activities or factions. It felt more rewarding than using your credit card to get a cosmetic. Now when we have a cosmetic that is possible to get trough gameplay...its just a recolor of somethingwe already own with a sticker on it (iron banner ship, triumph ghosts or ships, the new dungeon ship...) All disappointing loots. Anyways, d2 have great stuff in many ways compared to d1. But it definitely lacks the rewards for a loot based game. D1 had the loots, thats why it was enjoyable going trough activities (activities that felt more fresh because of diversity and modifier) A d2 strike is mainly, going trough weak waves of adds and melting the final boss that is as strong as a dreg with a broken leg. And pvp...spare ration/ mindsbender/ beloved/revoker/last word (and some other stuff for console such as erentil and luna) And you have the pvp meta since more than 1 year. Lacks of diversity. In d1 the meta was changing pretty often, and most guns were still competitive even against meta weapons. In d2...unless you are a true insane player you wont make most guns work against a team using the meta. D1 pvp felt more "arcade" than d2, where it feels like "tryhard" more than anything else.

                • Quality beats quantity everytime D2 is UNDENIABLY bigger than D1...by a long shot...a big long shot. However first and foremost, the game is basically collapsing under its own weight due to them triple overhauling over the base game code. But, they unilaterally ripped out tons of D1 QOL features that made the game so memorable -Customizable subclasses (I get the whole idea of acknowledging streamlined builds, but there was no way this could've ended well -Consumable shaders make absolutely no sense -ROI infusion system that literally no one could argue against...at all -Replayable story on command (including alternative missions) -Splintered versions of strikes (Taken versions, Siva versions) -Patrol secrets -Strike Specific Loot™ To name a few (based of of base D1) But they did add some nice touches that can't be ignored -Maps at the ready (thank the stars for that) -Custom Ghost shells are now casual -Custom transmats are now casual -Shadable weapons/ships/ghost/sparrows (minus 5pts for not including exotic weapons) -Ledge Grab ™ -In-Game lore (subclass lore+artwork was an excellent touch in case someone at Bungie is reading) -Story exists (I'm shoving Warmind and CoO into the corner for this one)
for those who don't know, D1 had a non-existent base story. Like I didn't even KNOW I finished because I didn't know what was going on
Then after a TON of Bungie listening and limping to the barn on implementation (Forsaken) we got what many agreed D2 should've been a launch -In Game lore tab (I still prefer Ishtar Collective) -Exotics not handed out like confetti -Collections Tab -New subclass branch
that's all I can think of for now, not to say there isn't more
But the point is, D2 premiered as total crap and in order to get it up to a standard, Bungie had to practically write up a new game and bulldoze over the base resulting in the game being nigh unrecognizable from what it was. But the unfortunate reality of doing that is that the more they add, the more the game starts falling apart and making it more annoying to play. In turn, D1, while it has/d it's bugs, was/is incredibly stable by comparison, allows for more freedom, a strong sense of reward a varied experience almost everytime you play all at the cost of slightly less flashy graphics, no ledge grab, blinking Hunters, and a smaller exotic pool
then again, 50% of D2 exotic armor is basically worthless ☕
To be completely honest, if they added the D2 subclass options and some exotics into D1, I'd more than likely be playing that. There's STILL stuff I haven't done in D1 that I want to but I wanna do it with D2 abilities

                      • I wasn’t complaining. The last 6 months of D1Y3 was great. Yeah we only had 4 raids but personally my 2 favorite raids to date are VoG and WotM. The raids were on a weekly rotation with each having different challenges and offering awesome gear and awesome ornaments that you had to play and earn vs buying them from eververse or pulling them from a season pass. T12 armor builds was achievable and high stat armor could drop from anywhere including tower vendors who’s gear rotated weekly. There was actually a reason to run the strike playlist other than just to complete a weekly bounty because you could farm keys and use them to obtain strike specific loot with random rolls giving you a reason to keep grinding for different rolls or higher stats. Your subclass skill tree gave you the freedom to build your character the way you wanted to play so if I wanted to run golden gun I could do so with combustion and keyhole. I could also run that with whichever throwing knife I wanted vs it being stuck to whichever golden gun option I wanted to run and I could spec for speed, armor, or recovery to my liking. Trials was in a sweet spot with great rewards not requiring you to do anything but participate but also offering trophy gear in the form of adept gear being a different color and offering ornaments that again you had to complete to earn instead of buy from eververse. Court was fun, forge was fun, prison was fun, and all had different drops that made them worth doing. Basically yes, D1Y3 might not have had as much content as D2Y3 does now, but all that content was relevant and fun. D2Y3 has so much content and it’s all mediocre with almost none of it feeling rewarding. All cool ornaments are locked behind a paywall instead of gameplay, vendors gear doesn’t refresh at all. Even if it did, all the gear isn’t worth buying anyway. 99.9% of legendary gear that drops I shard because low stats or meh rolls. Pinnacle is pointless because you don’t need the extra 10 light, you can get it from the artifact, and they are just going to bump light by 10 again next season. It’s pointless to run the raid or iron banner now because the season pass is going to give you your highest stat roll armor of the season, and the game is riddled with bad ideas like elemental affinity, seasonal mod slot, cost to MW, only source to farm MW mats being the nightfall, the nightfall being made into this weird farmable activity instead of being something challenging that you ran once per week per character (idk about you but I am not a fan of running the same strike over and over and over just to get a bunch of garbage so I can farm MW mats - also, making it more difficult isn’t making it more challenging, w/o the kick to orbit on wipe NF’s don’t have the same exciting feel that they used to), and eververse being the only vendor who ever gets a refresh or new stuff. Yes people complained before D2 came out, and after, and even back during the beta. Guess what, everybody has an opinion and everyone thinks the thing to do is share it on the internet. However, when the game is in a state where a lot of people are all complaining about the same thing, chances are there is something wrong with that thing. Bungie made bad choices in D1 where the majority of the community complained about the same thing, those things then got fixed, then D2 came out and they did it again with D2Y1, and now they have done it again in D2Y3.

                        • D1 was better because there was more purpose and more spontaneity in the game and hence it was much more enjoyable and FUN D2 has a control freak in charge who loves to dictate exactly how it must be played and that involves removing all surprises and spontaneity - remember when a Legendary Engram used to turn into a great Exotic every once in a while? REMOVED D1 raids were better and I beat them all on Hard Mode and completed all challenges (except WOTM final boss - too much stress there). I've hardly played D2 raids at all, they are way too puzzle heavy... Plus D1 had Trials, and better format of Iron Banner plus Factions. As I've made the transition to PC I really hope Bungie will do the right thing and port D1 to PC, or release D3 with a combined D1 + 2 foundation

Quality over quantity. Sure, D2 has more, but D1 did some things better. Subclass trees: Although mostly everyone used the same builds, you could still choose the perks you wanted, and they actually had synergy with one another. The only flaw was that they didn't make every perk useful. They could have buffed the underused perks. In D2, the perks at locked into clusters of 4, and you can't swap the perks with one in another tree. Some perks don't synergize with one another and belong in another tree, like Phoenix Dive in Attunement of Flame. That should have been combined with Icarus Dash in Attunement of Sky, and Viking Funeral from D1 should have taken its place in Flame. Terminal Velocity should have been in Code of the Missile. Ebb and Flow should have been combined with one of the perks in Way of the Warrior. Pulsewave needs to be replaced with something else. Maybe a perk that recharges Ball Lightning and increases its damage when critically wounded. Raids: D1 had fewer Raids, but the Raids were more enjoyable and has better rewards. The weapons and armor from D2 Raids have no unique perks, and mediocre designs, and it took Bungie a long time to add Raid-specific armor mods. Yet, Raid weapons still continue to have no unique perks. And while the Raids in D1 had less mechanics, the boss fights felt more like actual boss fights. Loot: While D2 has more armor, weapons, shaders, cosmetics, and even Ornaments, the aesthetics have been reduced considerably. About 95% of the cosmetics are in Eververse now, and we don't have Strike-specific armor, or decent Strike-specific rewards in general. Who, in their right mind, would make a useless exotic Ghost Shell, or a transmat effect, the sole Strike-specific reward for a strike? And none of the Strike-specific weapons are themed after the enemy-types anymore. Remember the Fallen autorifle from Taniks? Nothing like that in D2 unless it's an Ornament for an Exotic.

                        • The point is that by the end of D1, Bungie had managed to hammer out a lot of the most pressing and inarguably the most annoying QoL issues with D1, and in fact, when I got an Xbone and played D1 on it for the first time after playing on the 360 for so long, Crucible was actually fun: a Vision Stone dropped for me and I was killing with it. I would have picked up D2 at launch if not for the fact that near the end of my D1 time, Bungie gave me a 1-week ban from Crucible, supposedly for 'connection issues' even though my connection was fine, and it was likely due either to lag switchers or simply being thrown in matches with players on the other side of the world that my connection to matches suffered, and I was pretty salty about that and only picked up D2 when it went on sale, bundled with another game that I actually wanted to play. :P And when I finally did start playing D2, I was appalled at the number of major issues D2 had that _had been fixed in D1 after months of complaints by D1 players_. It boggled my mind that the same company managed to not only not learn the lessons they should have learned from their D1 mistakes and how they were fixed, only to repeat them in D2, but in some ways made them much worse. So when people say D1 was better than D2, I suspect they are referring to that. There is no doubt D1 had its issues in its development cycle and the launch was bad enough that I didn't buy it at launch or preorder D1, despite my having been a huge Bungie fan during the Halo 3/Halo Reach days (or even back with Halo: Combat Evolved on PC, for which I still have the original box and disc). Hell, I have every Halo iteration except Halo 2 (I didn't have a console or PC at the time and couldn't find the a copy of it for a decent price until after multiplayer servers had shutdown), and I bought at least 3 copies of Halo: Reach, including the Collector's Edition. I'd been following the development of Destiny with much interest, in large part due to the original concept art and design and the idea of an MMO-style PvE/PvP game which was in the form of an FPS. I was disappointed that the Destiny launch was so terrible, with server disconnects galore, and was what convinced me not to buy it at launch. Yet by the end of Rise of Iron, I had been enjoying myself, despite the lag in Crucible, the cheaters, the constant disconnects from even simple PvE missions. I had thought Bungie would have fixed connection issues and such in D2, but alas, when I did finally start playing D2 Crucible and was getting the same issues with lag and cheating, which came to a head when I was playing Comp to get my Redrix, and I got DDoSed. I didn't know I had gotten DDoSed, at first: I just wrote it off as Bungie's bad netcode as usual, same as D1. To be honest I'd just assumed D2 ran on dedicated servers only, because what game dev worth their salt would seriously consider running a multiplayer game using peer-to-peer in this day and age? So imagine my surprise when I looked into it, and discovered that no, in fact D2 did not use dedicated servers but a horrifying hybrid of peer-to-peer that really wasn't any better than D1, and that the reason my home internet (and indeed, the home internet of my parents when I went to visit them) was repeatedly going down for exactly 10 minutes at a time while I was playing Comp, was due to DDoS attacks. To be honest, my knowledge of DDoSing was largely from the late 1990s and early 2000s, and was under the mistaken impression that DDoSing was both difficult and expensive to do, and was largely used against large corporate targets, not against individual players. I didn't even know you _could_ be DDoSed on console. Doing a little digging, I realized that not only was this wholly incorrect, but that the past 5 years have been a virtual renaissance for DDoS attacks, not just against corporate servers but against players as well, with the barrier to entry for DDoSing substantially lowered from the '90s when you actually had to have some measure of hacking skill to build your own botnet and command and control servers to mount attacks, to the script kiddies of the later '90s and early 2000s, to now just being able to go to a DDoS-for-hire site, punch in a gift card code and your opponent's IP address and voila! Which would be why I've been banging on about DDoSing on Destiny 2 ever since then, and telling people to play via a VPN connection. Ultimately, it is Bungie's responsibility to run a multiplayer game that does not expose players' IP addresses to anyone and everyone, and to the best of their abilities crack down on cheating by dedicating substantial resources to not only catching and punishing cheaters, but also having a transparent process of justice to ensure that people aren't false and unfairly banned. As it stands, I just played my first Classic Mix match of 2020, and of course, as soon as my team was doing well, I started suffering connection issues to the match, and our team narrowly lost despite my best efforts (I was top scorer on my team before I menued out of the match with 12 seconds left on the clock, because I'm not sticking around to 'lose' against a bunch of cheaters, thanks :P). People may have rose-tinted glasses recalling D1 in a better light than the aggravating experience it was, but at least in D1, a lot of issues had been fixed by the time I stopped playing D1 and started playing D2. And truth be told, I would have been even more aggravated during D1 had I known that a lot of the 'lag' in Crucible, and 'mysterious' disconnects from Crucible when my team was winning, was the direct result of Bungie choosing to use peer-to-peer connections as a cost-cutting measure instead of investing in dedicated servers like Ubisoft did with For Honor (belatedly, after all the rampant cheating in peer-to-peer nearly killed the game a year ago). But at least I have fond memories of my time playing D1 with my friends, and a stranger on the forums even helped me get Thorn back when I was a newb and couldn't solo it, in part due to getting disconnected from the last mission step. :P Whereas D2 is just the same aggravation all over again, only by now, I expect Bungie to know better and to do better... and they never did. $500 million from Activision, and they couldn't sort out dedicated servers in all that time? Pshaw!

                        • You guys are blind. Quality over quantity. I don't care how many piles of shit you can find to do in D2 it's all shit. And if bungie didn't make every topic magically disappear off the forums on day 3 you would be able to see a comparison of the complaints Some are identical like QOL issues, Servers, Cash grabs etc. your not gonna be able to go back in time and find as many this isn't FUN like this version of D2.

                          •
Who knew?
How old are you? Seriously, what is wrong with you people? Calling people kids, cry babies and snowflakes make you look like the immature child you decry others for being. Also complaining is known as something else in the business world....feedback.

                            • The only thing Destiny 1 did better than Destiny 2, was allow for people to FEEL like they were accomplishing something. In my opinion, this makes Destiny 1 MUCH better than Destiny 2. Too much of the game is gated in Destiny 2. Too much of it is reworked to stay relevant for MAX LEVEL PLAYERS. There is simply too many events that the majority of players will struggle with on a level that they will never complete it. In Destiny 1, if you couldn't beat the Prison of Elders, you simply had to wait until the player level cap went up, and made it less of a struggle. This NEVER happens in Destiny 2. You only feel like you are on a level playing field, when you are at max level. Add in the fact, that most players will never even come close to reaching Max level now, and you have even less people that will enjoy the game the way that they did in Destiny 1. I clearly remember enemies in the Cosmodrome, having ?? over their heads. It was exciting to finally do damage to them. It was even more exciting to be able to wreck them when I reached the level cap. In Destiny 2, There were strikes that I hated doing, specifically because the balance was off, due to how level was applied. Now that they are tuned to be more approachable, I spend most of my time doing non-chalant strike runs. It's not a matter of needing to feel challenged all the time. It's also ridiculous for bungie to think that they can get people interested in grinding for hours to get through a raid, only to get gear that is likely going to be infused into something that is useful. I personally have run the Pit of Heresy, and the Shattered throne, but Not a single raid. Sundial is a mediocre effort, and in my opinion a bit TOO casual. Though it something. Hiding so much of the game, behind walls, is the difference between the two games. Destiny 2, looks better, and has MORE chores to complete. If the reward system, leveling system, and the ability for people to enjoy older content with less skilled players, were all on par with Destiny 1, Destiny 2 would be GOTY every year. But someone at Bungie thinks that we don't know what we want. That person seems to think we want something that we don't know we want, and keeps force feeding us this concept, by keeping us interested in the possible "REWARDS"... even if they are rewards from 2 years ago, that now have random rolls and an extra perk slot.

                              • In my personal experience with D1? It was better because of a few things really. #1 Raids in D1 were better cause they were simple and not overly mechanically driven that many could do, even below average players could grasp the mechanics. Raid also had better rewards such as Elemental Primaries that made Nightfalls so much easier especially with match game. Needed to take out solar shields? Pull out my Vision of Confluence. Needed Void shields taken down? Switch to my Secondary Void Shotgun, and so on. #2 Yes, The Dark Below and House of Wolves weren’t that great, (aside from the Raid) the Stories were short, couple of Strikes etc. I personally loved the Prison of Elders due to my love for all things Horde Mode from Gears of War and Firefight Mode from Halo so those were the highlights for me between those two DLC. But Bungie was undergoing Civil War within the Company. Between driving out Joseph Statin and firing and trying to rip off Marty O’Donnell etc. was why D1 and the first 2 Expansions for it wasn’t that great (aside from the Crota Raid and Prison of Elders) The Taken King and Rise of Iron put Destiny in a great place (with a few changes needed to the Leveling etc.) and instead of sticking with the formula that made D1 so great after TTK and Rise of Iron they just reboot the whole thing and scrapping it all. Bungie should have stuck with the D1 formula. I never understood the hate for Content Droughts. If it wasn’t for the Content Droughts in D1, we wouldn’t have gotten the amazing TTK and Rise of Iron which was rich with an abundance of things to do. Content Droughts also gives you an opportunity to play other Games that get released until the next DLC comes out for Destiny. The Seasonal Model Bungie has adopted absolutely sucks cause yeah, we get content every 3 Months, but the content is low effort, low quality, not a lot of thinks to do, content that is boring as f/u/c/k like Vex Offensive was. All in all, D1 was the best in my opinion. Did I hav my complaints? Of course. But overall it was a better experience. The slow Leveling in D1 was one of my complains, and the fact that you HAD to do Raids to get to Max Light. (I still have this complaint with D2. They need to get rid of the Soft Cap and just allow people to level up quickly so we can get people to the End Game Content such as the higher tier Nightfalls/Nightfall Ordeals etc. cause that is where the real fun is. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I got burnout cause I couldn’t get to Max Power quickly to get to the meat of the Game which is the Dungeons, Raids, Nightfalls etc etc.

                                • D1 did have its issues, especially in the first year, because Bungie tore up their entire game just barely 12months previously, they made a Frankensteins monster out of what was looking like an amazing game. Bungie then made huge mistakes by invalidating vanilla gear in the first DLC after Forever 29. Forums were full of complaints, but they were usually valid, 8 months of Thorn ruining pvp comes to mind. The community was more helpful, lfgs were full of folk willing to help inexperienced players run VoG, Crota, Kings Fall ect, very little "kwtd" after 2 days of a new raid. With the exception of those that did say they wanted to speed run through it ect and gradually Gjallarhorn became the big requirement. But D2 has been catastrophically bad, from changing the whole character skill trees and basically resting all previous character progress apart from appearance, after the initial launch, pvp was terrible in its 4 v 4 format, Trials barely lasted, it got stale rather quickly, the subsequent 2 dlc were so lacklustre that the player base dwindled to its lowest(till now) raid lairs, especially on console were buggy. Forsaken gave it a 2nd wind and showed us just what Bungie are capable of producing(even if it was with significant help) the annual pass content, singularly were pretty lacklustre although collectively added good lore (especially Drifters). But now we're seeing a vision of what Bungie now wants to produce, temporary content that's gone completely after 10 weeks or so, so unless you're a hardcore player, chances are could miss a huge segment of the progress story wise, say you come back next season after missing this... Wtf how's Saint-14 in Tower running Trials?
