Last season: "Over 1 million Crucible players! SBMM makes Crucible enjoyable for 90% of players!" Cause it's not like the game had just went F2P or anything and had over 1 million PvE players as well...
PvP playerbase was at 300k daily last week before good old "third party" site DestinyTracker took down the population numbers again.
This season marks the steepest decline of PvP players the game has ever seen (1.2m -> 300k) and is even worse when given context:
300k is what the PvP population was during most of the Annual Pass last year, BEFORE the game was F2P, and during a year-long period in which Bungie admits they completely neglected PvP.
Clearly, 300k is the dedicated PvP players that are left when all others leave the Crucible. Which means SBMM did nothing to keep the casual playerbase engaged in PvP long-term, and has literally accomplished nothing other than frustrating above average players.
If SBMM continues to be prioritized to the extreme extent that it is currently, soon those players will begin to leave as well, and Bungie will have another Year 1 situation on their hands.
Good job, Bungo. Only your studio could announce a "renewed PvP focus" and proceed to cause the steepest player decline in the history of Crucible.

You could react to subs, shotguns feel cheep in small maps

6 RepliesDon’t care much for the numbers as long as rosters are full. SBMM has been pretty good in my experience. Connection based allowed way too many skewed lobbies in the past. SBMM works.

SBMM protects from every match from being nothing but a Pubstomp. I swear haters of SBMM just want to Pubstomp so they can compensate for their small penis and so they can feel superior then others. Sorry. SBMM needs to stay to make matches fair for everyone. There are many other Games out there with SBMM and they do just fine and the Multiplayer Matches are fair.

4 RepliesI totally agree. However now the best players have been getting even more rediculously since they have only been playing other rediculous people. The worst players are still the worst since they only play the worst players. You unleash the now honed by fire best (or even just 1.0 average players) on everyone the cries of unfairness will never stop. The only solution now is a playlist of both and that isn't ideal. Iron banner should be cbmm and competitive should be rank based. I am very average and used to play quite a bit of pvp n it's just no longer enjoyable. Its non stop OHK spam with any mistake punished and without any sense of skill progression. It's more like punching yourself in the genitals than playing a video game.

No I don't when did the numbers "prove that SBMM work"

2 RepliesSBMM isn’t the problem. Otherwise player numbers would have been low last season. The problem is the meta. Arbalest is one of the most annoying weapons in the sandbox to have to play against when only one person is using it. Now you have entire lobbies using it. All for a weapon that is practically useless in pvp. Bungie throws these weapon quest into the game and don’t put enough thought into how they will change the player experience.

17 RepliesNo one cares about player count. As long as your lobby fills up reasonably fast everything is fine. People who look at player numbers must have a boring life.

17 RepliesThere is nothing you can do to try and keep trash players involved in pvp. There will always be those taking beatings. Get good or get going.

1 ReplyComplete lack of cause and effect buy hey don't let that get in your way. Truth is this shows PVE is what brings in players.....possibly. There are so many more problems with pvp right now than SBMM. Thing is they have to know it and this really shows how little they care.

12 RepliesThe thing is it's not really skill based match making, it's rather balance based match making. If you do good, you will be put in a team with lesser and better players to balance the team out. Although it sounds good, it is different than you think. To simplify: If the game thinks you are so good that you can carry 2 people, you will actually be placed with 2 people you have to carry to balance the teams out. While what we actually want is to be matched with 2 teammates who also can carry 2 people, makes sense right? Why is this important? I mean look at comp, do you want to be matched with peers of same skills and keep improving or do you want to go vs a team with 2 people that you have to drag along? I am not sure if this is 100% true, just seeing this pop up more and more on the forums. Not sure if Bungie ever was clear about this, let's be real when are they? XD

If I am able to match people in Vietnam something is blatantly wrong with the matchmaking system. I don’t care if they have the exact same stat as me in every category to the fourth decimal place, matching people across the world should not happen.

4 RepliesJust stop playing?

15 RepliesThe player drop has nothing to do with sbmm. Its a garbage seasonal pass system that caused players to leave. This trickles down to pvp. The better the content. The more players will be in game.

1 ReplyPvp player base has dropped by about half its daily players, anyone trying to deny this is kidding themselves. However I don’t think you can validly conclude it is because of sbmm. Let’s think about this. During the entirety of shadowkeep pvp was between 800k-1mil daily pvp players. That is about 2.5 months worth of time. There was hype about a renewed focus on pvp and belief that some good things that were rumored would come to fruition in season of dawn. Then this season comes out and there is no rank Trials, no new iron banner armor or weapons, a linear fusion rifle as the ritual and a quick ritual grind at that. Only then does the player base start to drop. To me seems more like it has to do with weak seasonal offering for the pvp players and not much to do with cbmm or sbmm. If it was truly because of sbmm then why did shadowkeep retain the players? Doesn’t make sense and the fall would have happened sooner. It is because the community had hope for this season and bungie didn’t deliver. Ask yourself, if the only change bungie makes to pvp is to go back to cbmm do you honestly believe the pvp population goes back to shadowkeep numbers? I think there is no chance of that. But if bungie actually lives up to this renewed pvp focus they claim they have I think there is a chance. Rework pvp rewards and make daily and weekly grinds like pve has and bring back a true end game activity like trials and maybe you can gain back some of the lapsed players. But I think just like people who try to deny that the pvp player base has dropped are kidding themselves, I also think you are kidding yourself if you think the main reason for the population drop is because of sbmm.

9 RepliesUr numbers are wrong. Yesterday 1.2 mil overall Pvp 617k From discords charlemagne. Dt shut down cause it was broken. I follow the stats on discord, its 1mil+ every day.

2 RepliesAs a person who would live in the crucible. I no longer enjoy it since shadowkeep. I play if my friends are willing but solo queuing is dead for me. I don’t like the lag or nerfs applied. Sbmm also is like playing 5500 comp but in 6’s if you just decent in this game.

11 RepliesBefore the player count dropped to 300k, Destiny Tracker and other sides were having API issues and it said that in the sites. The concurrent pc players was around 150k for most of the month with the exception of the holiday week.

24 RepliesEdited by Hellekeen: 12/27/2019 7:27:40 PMWhat are you whining for ? Remove sbmm and if the casual player is gone you are once again left with hardcore people.. those exact same hardcore people sbmm matches you against .. they will be your match no matter if you use sbmm or not .. Deal with it.. the „free targets“ era is over (luckily) and with or without sbmm you get to sweat .. With sbmm in place those faint, rare and new crucible flowers of random casuals that are not instantly pub stomped in pvp is a small chance to keep player population stable and not sink to trials level „play the same 4 guys 20 times in a row „
