So sick of the crying. How would you have done Solstice?

Pretty simple really, instead of salt and tears or endless anger tell me how you'd do it. Different grind events? Just less grindy? Something entirely different? I'm curious humor me. EDIT:::::: Thank you all for the responses. I agree with 90% of the suggestions. I'm particular with second and third characters there must be a less grindy option. Me personally I wont bother with more than my hunter. I did all 3 chars last years Solstice and I swear it wasn't such a chore vs this one. I really like the EAV space also.

  • 1st bring back trials 2nd mayhem during the weekend 3rd SRL for the 3 weeks of Solstice with new armor and sparrows with no eververse. Let us choose the activities to earn the armor ornaments with the vanguard or Shax/Saladin. If it’s the 3 characters completing one should cut down on the requirements for the other 2 characters.

  • Haven’t played much D2 recently and won’t be grinding the Solstice armour. What bothered me last year (and generally) was you grind to upgrade the armour, new dlc comes out and it’s useless - absolutely no point in doing it at all apart from the highly questionable trophy value. Why not make it continuous and equally upgradeable into Shadowkeep so it might be worthwhile actually doing it to use it? I have been shooting things in D1 - revisiting all my old gear and it occurred to me that there is something fundamentally wrong with repetitively grinding the hardest content for the best weapons and gear...and then do what with it...? The same content again with a faster reloading hand-cannon or fancy helmet...? I slogged in D1 for Touch of Malice, Outbreak Prime, Trials gear etc. and never actually used most if it: straight into the Vault. Spent today running around with my DealBreaker, Eirene and leg’ sword! All perfectly accessible weapons. Less quantity more quality, custom and upgrade options would be my taste for ShadowKeep...undecided at the mo.’

  • Easy. I wouldn't have done solstice. Maybe a buff in drop rates for all events so people can collect what they want to get before the new expansion. Maybe fixing some known issues with PvP instead.

      • Like the valor reset, everything should have counted retroactively. That way we'd have to play for orb generation for the armor and eaz kills. Also, once done on one character it should count for all. The eaz minibosses and chests should have both been 50.

      • Less monotonous activities. Better rewards, Destiny has an obvious problem with time invested and rewards.

      • Focus the event more squarely on the new activity in the EAZ. Include final boss kills as an armor requirement. Include event engrams in some way. Lessen the grind for your second and third characters. Charge less for the armor glows. Include event shaders as rare drops in EAZ chests. Use a new sparrow design for the reward for grinding all three armor sets (the one they did use is super boring and generic).

I'm curious humor me.[/quote] Me personally would have designed other steps. Not this freaking honey do list of chores. Like make up different challenges ANYTHING new. EAZ was a step in the right direction but it failed miserably with the 100 mini boss thing. There’s so much they could have done to at least make it fun. But instead they chose the least played shit just to extend the play time.

      • I would have set a reduced set of requirements that would be completed by playing in the EAZ, and had them count across all players in the activity rather than individually. I'd have unlocked the armour set upgrades account wide rather than character wide. Instead of a single sparrow I'd have had the EV-35 Arcrunner, EV-36 Solscout and EV-37 Voidstreak. Maybe even have put the E-47 Prismatica in there as well. I would also have had an unobtained (if there were any missing from the collection) exotic drop right at the beginning of the quests, along with the green armour set. It's supposed to be a celebration of the past year. Instead it's a regrind of the same things that have already been done 10's or 100's of times. This is just a small part of my opinion on how it could have been handled better.

        Well, I got home from work at 4, all I needed for legendary was 75 arc kills on guardians and 10 gambit matches. It's now roughly 2.5 hors later and I still have 2 more matches and 50 guardian arc kills to go. It would be great if 10 gambit matches can be done in 2 hours instead of 3. 19 hours to run 60 gambit matches across 3 characters is a ridiculous grind

        • Why tell you how to do a event like Solstice ... The issue is Bungie can’t do one without sapping the FUN from it and they prove this time and time again.. Very simple concept is make something fun to do and people will do it .. Bungie go the exact opposite and cause people to leave game or not even bother with events.

          Cut minibosses in half of make every defeated enemy count. Be able to use the previous iterations of armour as ornaments. Earn SOLSTICE glows from solstice PACKAGES. Return event engrams. Introduce MUCH more strict AFK timers and penalties for quitting sessions (I definitely quit my fair share of EAZ runs - sorry not sorry). Give a clear explanation of how the solstice armour won’t be made immediately irrelevant in Armour 2.0 as we acquire new, more powerful sets. To name a few.

        • Like Y1 Faction Rallies Any activity drops Key Fragments Go to Eva and turn in Key Fragments for Rank Up Packages. Packages drop nothing but Legendary Majestic Armor with Randomized Perks. Small chance for Ghost, Ship, Sparrow from Packaged too. EAZ Chests would be the fastest way to farm armor. Every EAZ Chest drops a piece of Legendary Majestic Armor with Randomized Perks. Chance for Solstice Ghost, Ship, Sparrow from EAZ chests as well. Ornaments unlocked by doing specific tasks. 1 task per Ornament. Grinding for all 3 sets of Ornaments would be exactly like grinding from rare to legendary solstice Armor now. MWing the full set of Armor would involve replaying the Mission to save Cayde and actually saving Cayde. Cayde would then give you five treasure maps to find a chest that MWs each of the 5 pieces of Armor.

          The basic structure of the event is fine. You just have impatient players...and shooter gamers complaining. I would have only made two changes. 1. Bungie needs to just accept that the game's PVP modes are in a bad state, and are HIGHLY controversial. So nothing is gained at this point---other than community resentment----by pressuring players to go into them who don't want to be there. It makes the people who don't want to be there angry and resentful....and it makes the people who DO want to be there FRUSTRATED because you have people throwing games and being AFK because they don't want to be there. I literally had a Gambit match where---afer losing the first round---all three of my team mates just stopped picking up motes. Or if they picked them up by accident, they refused to bank them. They were simply throwing the match in order to get it over with as fast as possible. 2. The reward structure for EAZ was poorly designed. Once again....as a manifestation of the game's overall STINGINESS with loot. Part of the reason that people are so frustrated with the EAZ grind is that you get NOTHING of value from it unitl you've COMPLETED the grind and levelled up the armor. All you get is----for players of end-game level----a bunch of garbage. I figured that out pretty quickly, and just held onto the boxes and key fragments until I got my Majestic armor set....then started opening them again. Even then, all you're getting is alternate rolls on the armor you just leveled up. People would have found the EAZ grind less obnoxious if they were being given USEFUL rewards along the way. Instead of---essentially---weapon parts and (if you're lucky) enhancement cores. Bungie needs to understand that---in these games---engagement follows REWARDS. So when you stop rewarding an activity, players either stop doing it.....or they grow to dislike doing it, and try to get it over with as quickly as possible. But if you pressure playres into playing content they don't like....and you basically dont' GIVE them anything for doing it (wich is basically what the EAZ is doing) THEY ARE GOING TO REBEL.

        • Play whatever you want. Harder activities earn more progress towards leveling up the armor, running the daily subclass and collecting orbs also boosts progress. Eaz still drops the packages but the packages also have a chance to contain old eververse armor/ornaments/bright dust or some other shit that will make the gamemode actually worthwhile to play whenever you want, not just when you are hunting for better solstice armor rolls:

          • How about Penalizing the turds that leave events for starters! I say ban the PRICKS for a week, where they can’t even boot up the game. That would stop them pretty damn quickly I bet. Bungie is way too soft and spineless

            Something like the mini bosses only count after the chest openings when it ends Have regular folks look and test the idiocy of 100 mini bosses that only count when you shoot them but packages that are team and are 50 as example that could have been handled better Again my analogy two week vacation to Maui Bungie wants you to row for 13 days then have a day to play should be one day travel 13 to play Get 100 kills in crucible rather then play ten rounds this way no afk folks and good players get the reward of finishing quicker but it’s very obtainable for all Same for strikes get xxx kills/assists again no afk be efficient instead of speed running Let folks turn in each piece as finished rather then all And reward those who masterwork all pieces with something simple like a emblem 25 patrols of your choice 10 events of your choice The orb numbers were not a issue

          • How I'd do it: Keep the first part to get the very FIRST full armor set. After that, everything changes. Get blue armor first. You still need to upgrade the armor, it's an event after all. Requirements will be more fun, rewarding, and natural for most players. H[u][b]ow to turn your starting Blue Gear to Legendary[/b][/u]: Helmet: Complete any raid encounter Gloves: Complete any Crucible challenge or bounty Chest: Nightfall score of 100,000 or more Boots: EAZ FINAL boss kills (5) Class item: complete 5 solstice bounties Masterworks: Basically the same idea as the current Solstice, but give some items "or conditions" to complete. [u]Repeat play[/u]: Make glows earnable thru packages as well as masterwork cores, occasional exotics, God rolly armor, and other goodies that promote extended play AFTER earning the Legendary armor set.

            • Well for starters id make the quest team oriented rather than how they are now. People leaving on the mini boss phase to get their 100 kills, people leaving strikes after that part is over, melting pub event bosses not letting those who need it make it heroic, ect ect. The sets are way to single player focused to have the steps they do. None of them require you to be team oriented so people just leave once step is done and screw everyone over. Next tone down a lot of the requirements. 100 mini boss kills? Make that 50. 50 chests? Make that 100. That would force peoppe to stay after getting their MB kills because now they need the chests. Public event steps should all have been heroic. That way everyone got completion regardless of which set they were on. Nobody gets screwed 25 patrols? Make that 15. 10 Gambit matches (i think it was 10)? Knock that bad boy down to 5, everyome hates that game mode 300 strike kills? Make that 150 baby. Youre wanting people to do 3 characters, thats 450 kills apposed to 900. 1500 orbs? Make that 500 baby and increase the duration so they dont disappear in .4 seconds. Pretty sure theres a few i missed but you get the picture. The biggest problems this event is having is 1) no team based steps, its every man for themselves 2) asking way to mucn for a 3 character attempt I did the set on my warlock and thats it. Ive no intention of doing the other 2 nor will i even bother with the EDZ and i have 1409 keys last i check before i hopped of after my LH grind in comp. Thats what [i]I[/i] would have done

              • Make it possible to do it all in pve, don't require any clan stuff. Sell the glows for less or let us use the old ones and I would've enjoyed an aerial zone for all planets. I'm not doing any of the armor just like last solstice. I still enjoy the EAZ though. It looks so sexy at night.
