Let me start with saying I’m also glad for the changes.
The nerd in me has to be a stickler about something.
Gear, skills and perks are not MMO related, they are just RPG elements.
MMO needs a high number of people in the same area, that’s it. Massive multiplayer online.
In an MMO people in the server can all stand in the same non-instance area. Tens, hundreds, thousands.
D2 lets what, nine people share the same patrol zone?
Nine people. Just three times a single fireteam limit. You have more people in a single pvp match then can run around in a public zone together.
Nothing massive about that at all. Just the opposite. In MMO team based activities have a lower player count then free roam areas.
Every single one I’ve played.
Everquest raids had 75 man teams (talk about a sight). Meanwhile in the trade hall in the main social hub in the Plane of Knowledge you had more people AFK to sell their stuff. That doesn’t include the people actually playing.
Destiny isn’t designed for a high player count. From its coding to game world design.
D1 had good RPG elements but D2 watered it down. I’m glad to see it retuning and could either be equal or better.
Destiny, from the top down, would need redesigning and coding to enable it to be even MMO lite.
The only reason I don’t like people calling non MMOs MMOs is because I don’t want players to lower the standard they expect from Devs.
That’ll affect game quality in the future. No one wants their genre watered down because people outside of it redefined it so they could add a label to their favored games.
Let’s hope Destiny continues to improve, who knows what could happen with 3, right?
Good luck Guardian!

Considering how I play DCU and played the first destiny I can completely disagree with you. Destiny 1 was an mmo. It's not about the amount of people on the damn tower it's about what mechanics are in the game.

That’s what the RPG part of those two games are, mechanics. MMO means Massive Multiplayer Online. Quite literally player count in various playable areas of the game, not just social spaces. Good luck Guardian!

Dude mass effect and dragon age are rpgs theybdidnt use ANY of the mechanics that destiny or DCU use. Mom doesn't just mean 100 people at the damn tower

This was very well put and a sight to see in these forums nowadays! Bravo Guardian.
