No reason you can't make an optional choice in exotic quests like "kill x number of guardians in crucible OR kill x number of bosses/minibosses in pve modes" for example. That way you cater to both types of players and noone gets pissed off by having to play modes they don't want to.
Edit #2: Changed title to include PVE as well because apparently people just read titles now and don't bother to read the actual post content before going full keyboard warrior. ;)
EDIT: Man some of you are getting mad butthurt over this.
1) It's just a suggestion that would benefit both types of players, pve and pvp. yes it says pvp in the title but I say in my post there should be options for BOTH. Learn to read more than a title before going full keyboard warrior.
2) Again this is just a suggestion and noone is "crying" about anything. Generally if you have that attitude, you're just projecting your own attitude towards things.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_projection
3) It's just a game. Some of you are taking this waaaay too seriously. Maybe take a break and go do something else for a while if you're this invested in a video game, and that's coming from someone who has played them for probably longer than most of you have been alive.

9 RepliesJust get rid of PVP all together. Its a worthless useless total piece of dog sheit.
-
4 RepliesIf there is a pve choice then everyone would just do that.
-
Seriously. Instead of a series of "And" steps, why not a series of "Or" steps?
-
3 RepliesPeople misunderstand this. It's not about how easy or hard the pvp step is, it's about having to do pvp at all. Especially when people really don't care for PVP. Having optional methods of completion would please both sides and wouldn't require much more time to create.

1 ReplyWow the pvp steps they put in are extremely easy. How bad are you at aiming ???
-
I don't have thorn, ace or TLW, because I found it too grindy and I don't like pvp too much, that was my choice. Lumina on the other hand, with its team kill mechanic was done in two games. I hope this is kept in quests going forward.

Dude, don't put a link to a wiki article you don't understand in your post.

23 RepliesEdited by Galaxy: 7/3/2019 11:00:37 PMWhat is everyones problem with doing crucible steps for quests? And then getting upset because there's no pve alternative? Like, the quest has you do like literally every activity in the game, no reason to complain when it reaches crucible. (Not to mention the crucible step can literally be done by your teammates)

Edited by Dulcius: 7/6/2019 5:38:11 PMIt could be interesting if they had different perks associated with what path someone chooses to acquire their weapon. Having more PvP type rolled perks for those that choose to acquire it through PvP activities and the opposite for those that choose PvE activities to complete their quests. I don’t think this would work for exotics, but perhaps for future legendary pinnacle weapons. There’s likely a lot more to it than simply this, but it’s just a thought.
-
So I should be able to get all the raid exotics out of crucible if I don’t like playing raids. Don’t think we should get spoon fed

I support this message 💯 percent!

Two separate quest lines for the same weapon seems kinda weird.

What about a middle ground that has PvP involvement but doesn’t impede progress when you die like the damn Last Word (which I am nowhere near to completing). That’s something I would be happy with. It wouldn’t to me be such a grind and would be happy to do over a few weeks to get my kills up. It becomes frustrating when most quests just want you to go through PvP or Invasion through Gambit because there is a player base out there (myself included) who aren’t just into PvP and would also like to earn these weapons but be able to with our particular play style (which Bungie harps on about but doesn’t actually follow through). Quests like the Wish Ender, Outbreak or Whisper are great. I don’t mind the time limit or the difficulty. What there needs to be is more variety and more options so that ALL players can attain these rewards and not feel they aren’t able to get them because a certain part of the quest doesn’t fit their play style. It’s not about “git gud” it’s about Bungie recognising that they have a wide range of players who range from solely PvE to solely PvP and everything in between and cater for all types of players so that everyone can benefit from it just by playing the game while maintaining that these rewards aren’t just handed out. For instances for me it took several runs and LFGs to get the Wish Ender but it felt rewarding in the end. Same with the Whisper and Outbreak, several runs but the reward was worth it. tl;dr There needs to be more balance between PvP and PvE players when it comes to some exotic quest lines.

Now I’m being reminded of the Last Word quest backlash, which is making me laugh because that was a PvP gun that’s essentially bottom tier in PvE. I know it wasn’t your point but I can’t help it.
-
Git gud
-
4 RepliesIf you won’t go into pvp to grind for said gun then you don’t deserve said gun. Pvp steps are apart of a pvp game. If you don’t like it go play warframe or something no pvp in that
-
17 RepliesMAKE EVERY PVE STEP COMPLETE-ABLE IN PVP THEN. STFU
-
Dude it's just PvP, it's not like you're giving up the family dog! If you hate fighting other people in a videogame THIS much then shooters are definitely not the game you should be looking at Look, I understand stuff like "get 500 kills with the starting sidearm while playing inverted" but c'mon man it's not gonna kill you to play crucible

4 RepliesEdited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 7/4/2019 1:55:27 AMBungie: go be on a team and compete against another team and try to win Also Bungie: instead of using what your best with to achieve victory, use this specific weapon and try to get these specific kinds of kills Again also Bungie: you’ll be matched with people that may or may not be trying to do the same thing, it doesn’t matter if they’re legitimately trying to win, do these specific things anyway even if it means you’re a hinderance to the team Literally makes no sense. None. Never has. Never will. Destiny PvP will ALWAYS be illegitimate because of this. The blend is impractical and often makes no sense. Separate PvE and PvP.

There is not a single part of the lumina quest that that requires you use rose to get kills. I sat in QP most of last night with it equiped to help other peoples progress.

8 RepliesI'm not a pvp player, nor do I enjoy any aspect of it. The items that you can get only in pvp seems a bit unfair to those who want to do story missions, strikes and such. I dont see why the pvp population are getting upset at those who dont like pvp and mainly focus on pve. Plus the few times I have tried pvp, all I see are trolls who use OP guns and wipe the floor with those who are less experienced. Since playing Destiny 2 I have seen nothing but the "good pvp" players as well as the beginners complain about so and so using whatever gun to have an unfair advantage over everyone else. Everyone calls for a nerf of whatever gun when its purpose was designed for pve, not pvp. I would love to be able to get the items from grinding or even raiding and working hard to get them. I would love to be able to grind out getting engrams in order to get the items that are pvp only. Dont know why people are getting upset over nothing. Oh well.

you know what IS optional? the quest...........
-
3 RepliesAn exotic quest is a hunt for a weapon. If said person that is complaining doesn't like the weapon or quest than they shouldn't complain. Get over it. It's a certain amount of time for something that makes you feel powerful. It should be time consuming or challenging to some.
-
2 RepliesThe thorn quest had a pretty good idea on there being multiple ways of completing some of the quest steps.
-
2 RepliesIs this tied into Lumina? That quest only had one PvP step, where you had to get handcannon kills in the Crucible, and it worked as a team. I think you needed a total of 50 kills or something, but it pooled together from everyone so it took me like two games, and I'm not very good at PvP. Here's the way I look at it: PvE and PvP are both just part of the game, and the game as a whole combines everything (I know, this is obvious but I'm making a point). If you want every exotic, to experience the whole of what the game has to offer, I think you need to play the whole game. In other words, I don't think its fair for so much of the playerbase to expect the whole experience for only playing half of the game. There are quests that are mainly PvP (Chaperone), but most quests hold the majority of the steps in PvE. I get where your coming from--I mainly play PvE and can have a tough time in the Crucible. However, I think that having quest exotics means you've gone through the process to earn it, and we've gotta accept that.
