What's actually to look forward to with this next part of the Annual Pass?

All jokes aside people even though that is not going to happen. I just want to see what some of you think about it by looking at the overall of what has happened since Forsaken released. The state of the game at this point is why I'm not playing the game at this moment. This doesn't mean I won't at some point nor does it mean I quit for good, "Hate the entire game" nor does it mean I "hate Bungie" now that that is out of the way. So whether I play or not has nothing to do with the state of the game that anyone can see at this point. I'm having a hard time understanding why Bungie is not improving these things to make the game a better experience for the player base. These are my concerns, yes some of it is just my opinion.
Factions have been removed leaving less loot to acquire for a year now Trials were removed and they could have added it back to D1. By removing it, all of that poured into everything else in D2 PvP The vendors in this game are not being properly updated nor being used as their intended purpose IMO 90% of the gear in this game is not appealing, it doesn't give that incentive to want to acquire Duplicates in this game are in just about everything in the game and way overdone The RNG in this entire game is way overdone The exotics in this game are being watered down to make certain content a challenge Only a weapon here or there or, a gear piece here or there is not improving the loot system Cores are not a useful material like Motes of light, yet are being treated like Motes of light No new PvP maps that it's only 4v4 maps that are the root of a lot of PvP issues Strikes are not being updated Things are still being based around Gambit and Tess with the exception of the new raid Matchmaking is an issue in this entire game The economy is broken The loot system is on the verge of being broken The game has too many limits when it comes to customizing your character vs D1
This is only a few things that are my concern with how things head from here on out. Yes, it's negative, but you all know what's positive about the game like, the skybox, the events added to the game even though some of it IMO shouldn't have been a PvP/PvE game mode. The gunplay on how it feels in Destiny, using supers even though that's a war on this forum, lol. Among other things, but those positive things are not an issue as of right now. So again, knowing what should be a concern about this game. What's to look forward with this next part of the Annual Pass? Edit: This is a sincere thank you to everyone that made a reply to this post for keeping it civil. IMO as of right now, Bungie should be listening to the player base and learn from D1 on what worked for the game and D2. Take what they have learned that (worked) and apply it to D3. Create a foundation and build from there and keep moving forward with ideas to actually improve things as the things I listed in the above spoiler. If there is one suggesting that is really important to me that I could get across to Bungie and the investment team. It would be when taking feedback to improve things like making content meaningful as we requested about the exotics from the base game?
Please do not go to the extream one way or the other. Handing exotics out like candy was not a good thing at all, but to go the opposite direction of what was actually requested wasn't a good thing either. IMO D1 RNG was in a good place with ROI, yes it could have been tweaked to (slightly) decrease the drop rates to make it more meaningful when acquiring certain items, meaning not so easy to acquire. Learn to come up with a happy medium or at least try. The reason I say this is, not only the RNG but other things in the game needs to be taken into consideration when making adjustments one way or the other.
I haven't played at all this season. Just bored and disillusioned with Destiny 2. It's sad. I used to love D1 and played the crap out of it. Here's what would bring me back: 1. Remove enhancement cores. 2. Stop the nerfs. Let weapons be good. That's one of the reasons we play isn't it? Why introduce cool weapons and make us grind for them only to make them useless later on? 3. Return to the power fantasy of D1, where we as guardians actually felt powerful. Fast charging supers and grenades. 4. Remove milestone system and let us play whatever we want to progress. I don't want to play Gambit every week. I'm sorry, I just don't like it that much. If I want to play a bunch of strikes and story missions to get some gear and level up - let me do that. 5. Dispense with the power level climb every season. It's pretty much pointless. A power level climb every year, with a major content drop, is fine, but every season is too much. 6. Drop the annual pass model and go back to DLC's with new strikes/maps/missions etc. This new way just isn't working. 7. Add optional matchmaking to all or most activities. If you don't want to put it in for the raid then at least integrate an in-game LFG system. 8. Make raids more like the raids in early D1. VoG, Crota etc. Simple mechanics and accessible for newer players. 9. Don't focus so much on PvP and Gambit. Yeah I get some people enjoy it but the bread and butter of this game is PvE. Make content that keeps PvE players engaged as without them there is no game. 10. Stop listening so much to streamers and hardcore players. The vast majority that play this game are in the middle - neither casual nor hardcore but it seems we have been forgotten. All this is wishful thinking and I don't expect Bungie to implement it any time soon, but they should be thinking about major changes for D3 (if indeed there is a D3).

    • Man, I just can’t do it again. I just don’t see a point grinding for weapons and/or armor anymore. Everyone that I played with in D1 didn’t bother or hasn’t bothered with D2. There’s other games out there that I can enjoy with friends and family without it feeling like a chore. Hopefully they get D3 right because in my opinion, D2 was a massive step back from how D1 ended.

      • I'm hoping something good, I know there is a raid, but I doubt I'll even get into it. I haven't raided since the Calus raid. I power levelled in Season of the Drifter, never touched a single Gambit Prime match or Reckoning round. Wasn't a big fan of Gambit before the season and that never changed in the new season.

Nothing, I'd suggest stop playing, enjoy your summer camping or having fun until a better group of developers come out with a better game. Should be easy considering this game is shit.

I think I played ONE round of Gambit prime and ONE round of Reckoning in all this season. For someone who's been playing this game since 2014 with thousands of hours spent... It really says a lot about how underwhelming the game has become. This annual pass should've been called "Horde Mode Annual Pass".

The only thing I look forward to is the advancement of lore no matter how miniscule a portion it may be. The PvE sandbox changes leave me apathetic. Rendering my hard work useless isn't something I take kindly to. I play to obtain strong weaponry to put down my enemies with. Now we get to show off our horribly neutered trophies to tickle them with. It's useless to grind for Pinnacles or Exotics. If I can't passively grind them as I play, I won't be collecting them anymore.

          • If history holds they will post a commercial for it tomorrow (it’s not too late to try and get people to try and buy the Annual Pass 🤣👍). There will be a video with devs on camera saying stuff that sounds cool, but will turn out to be a disappointment later. They always wait till the week before a season starts to preview what’s actually in the season.

            • You’ve hit on a lot of major issues, and I really don’t know how Bungie is going to actually get through sorting them out when many of them, or the seeds of the issues, have been present since launch (or even D1) and have barely, if at all, iterated on them. Exotic design is one core tricky point. The design mentality was supposed to be that these weapons should behave uniquely compared to normal ones, and yeah, could have a little more power budget which would be kept in check by the “only one exotic at a time” build restriction. In practice, Bungie rarely, possibly never, found a way to execute that design goal, with the majority of meaningful and memorable exotics simply being the ones that performed the furthest above item budget. And that design problem is what’s led to the cycle of releasing of overpowered exotics that clearly needed nerfs to be in balance with available gear. It is not healthy for a game, PvE or PvP, to funnel players into a handful of selections to be competitive in the content because they notably outperform the alternatives. Balance matters tremendously. I wish instead of relying on excessive RNG, Bungie would just use quest lines or reasonable grind thresholds (that’s to say, anything with a target which won’t lose progress on you due to poor performance. I also categorically believe no non-cosmetic gear should be locked to raids or other content equally accessible to non-fireteamed and fireteamed groups. Make something faster to get by raiding, fine, but it’s unbalanced to actually lock something behind raids, especially when they don’t scale to arbitrary party size). Catalysts should never have been RNG drops; it was deeply unbalanced and downright broken. The absurd variance in sleeper nodes was similarly resulting in a totally broken experience for players. Bungie clearly has been using RNG heavily to compensate for lack of depth and size of their content to slow players chewing through it. It makes for a really awful experience. Vendor updates, keeping loot relevant across the board, adding maps regularly, making sure every part of the game is in general kept up to date as standards and systems changed is a major issue, and Bungie basically decided to do nothing about it. It’s inexcusable. The sandbox needs, across all modes, a massive tuning overhaul. A game of this scale needs much greater pace of tuning updates, especially when new stuff is regularly added to the gear pool. Bungie has been tuning D2 as slow or slower than the rate of a mid life cycle, steady state FPS seeing minimal additions to its available weapons/etc. D2 was never healthy enough to be treated like that, let alone after dumping a massive system change like Forsaken’s weapon slot adjustments in the mix. And replayable, varied endgame. Aside from having rewards to work for, having interesting game worth playing repeated has been a major issue since launch. No minimal variance hoard mode, no raid, touches this. Gambit doesn’t either. My last note: it’s inane for Bungie to demand players spend so much effort and time on numerical progression (light level) when it’s so aggressively normalized away across content. It would be healthier to strip the mechanic away entirely. Story would progress less obtusely for new players and across expansions, and it would clean up a lot of silly nonsense that exists in the later game. But they don’t want to, because it seems that some subset of the playerbase continue to play solely to keep punching up a number the game always finds ways to make meaningless. Light level is a time waster, not a progression system.

With the finer points for the systemic changes on the table, we can next turn our attention to revealing the places you’ll go and the reasons you’ll fight. Right now, our focus is on Opulence. But after the Season has launched and Raid belts have been awarded, we’ll be looking deeper into the future, and sharing with you more about a new era for Bungie and Destiny 2" So tune in next week...I missed it originally as I don't usually read beyond MoTW

                • It's unfortunate that much of the most vocal of the Destiny community only wants to focus on what's not there as opposed to what we've gotten for our money. Sure, I'd love to see vendors with more armor, a few more crucible maps, and factions make a big return, etc. but I recognize that bashing what could be shouldn't be a way of ignoring what is. For $30 we've gotten 2 raids (as to be released CoS and SotP), lore drops and story (especially from Joker's Wild), 4 decent horde modes (Black Armory), 1 really excellent horde mode (Reckoning), a new form of Gambit with multiple new maps, a bunch of exotics (old and new), a few decently fleshed out events, and more to come in season 7 (including some mysterious 6 man match made activity). All of this content combined is easily, in my opinion, worth the $30 I had to shell out for it. I'll happily hand over another $30 for next season pass too.

An annual pass isnt going to change your opinion on the game. You either like it or don't or whatever you feel bout the game. Its more so having new content more often instead of a blockbuster dlc once in a blue moon. But it won't change the quality of the content I'm not saying d2 is better than d1, but I still like d2. I still like the franchise. hopefully its all uphill from here. D2 is gonna be the dark ages of the destiny franchise. I can't imagine it getting any worse

I've not played for any decent length of time since black armoury.. not touched drifter stuff, or the last one (can't even remember what it was called, the spring one).. To say the loot is pants, customisation is pants.. levelling, exotics, matchmaking, everything you said.. all rubbish, in a game where those things are the point of playing gives me no reason to play.

                          • You know.... The last 48 hours have kinda made me realize something......... I've spent years begging bungie to listen, to make wise decisions, to do things that will drive up player numbers and revenue.......... And I'm just done............... At this point, I kinda want bungie to immerse it's self fully in the extreme toxicity, ultra hostile game play style that they clearly think people want............... And I just want to watch as their company collapses into bankruptcy, leaving destiny 3 a half finished title never to be released.... And know the world will be a better place in the void it leaves behind. I'm not going to beg them to fix anything anymore. I am going to tell them that they're stupid, stupid, stupid, as they deserve to be told every time they -blam!- something up... And when they put out a statement that it's been a fun ride but the game just isn't generating enough revenue to keep them out of bankruptcy.... I'm just going to say "I told you so".

I’m seriously conflicted. On one hand, this year is objectively the most content-rich Destiny has ever been, and rewards have been built in a way that makes nearly every activity “rewarding,” but on the other hand, just like years past in the wake of the new year leading up to the May/June content drop I find myself just as disinterested in playing the game as I was during the infamous Dark Below content drought, logging on once or twice a week to get the next lore drop from the Invitations or Queen’s Court hoping for something significant to happen or in the case of TDB, logging in once to do a raid and Nightfall clear. I personally it has to do a lot with how the Annual Pass content has been delivered. Unlike previous expansions where there was a wealth of content at launch with a couple things like the raid or the occasional time locked quest line popping up all within about a month or so. These expansions would add general content, which would include at least a (usually unsubstantial, but context-giving) story with a strike, crucible maps, and some kind of additional endgame piece. The Annual Pass is comparable to a frog in a slowly boiling pot of water. The content (while taken as a whole, is substantial) is spread out so thinly that I (the frog) can’t notice it, and eventually lose interest after a week or two (dying from the now boiling water). It gives a very specific endgame content extension (Hunting for perfect roll—>Forges; Gambit—>Gambit Prime) and presumably Penumbra will provide a chase for all the secret hunters in the community, although based on its presentation may be slightly more story-focused, and if that’s the case, it might make up for everything else, but I am tentatively excited about it. But then again, I held that same level of excitement when Joker’s Wild was revealed...and I’ve seen how that’s turned out.

I left a week into warmind and didn't come back until a couple months into Forsaken. Having chewed through that content I'm just not feeling it anymore. As a casually serious gamer I don't feel like Bungie cares about the time I spend playing their game. I don't think they're catering to anyone but themselves and the 1%'s on YouTube/twitch. As a result I find that I've lost the drive I used to have to play D1 & D2. Why would I want to play a game that doesn't offer anything meaningful or engaging?

                              • Nothing, absolutely nothing. Only going to bother because I want my money's worth and Iceborne is still several months away, though even then I've been opting for playing Bloodborne for the twentieth time and trying out the alpha demo for Nioh 2 over playing this game lately. Was little more than a fun time waster to pass the time for better things, but their refusal to let the game just be fun ruins even that. I'm tired of it, tired of this little game Bungie is playing, messing with all the things that actually make the game worth spending any time on, and just ultimately tired of Bungie themself. If they haven't figured out what they want to do with this game, or even wht they want this game to be in well over four years, I doubt they'll ever figure either of those out.

                                • The lore. No new vendor weapons or armor or strikes or maps. New raid is always cool I reckon. Remember in D1 when weapons and armor changed every 3 to 4 months? It's impossible to get stoked about a helmet from IO now.
