I entered quickplay today.
I know I'm a bad player, as a retired grandfather who remembers when graphics were 2 lines and a couple of square blocks I am not likely to have the reactions of young kids nor the capacity to improve quickly.
However I've ignored all the private messages saying I should "Just kill myself ' or that I'm a 'noob -blam!-' and continued to have a game or 2 of quickplay when I have a bounty(rewarding a valuable enhancement core) instead of playing solo PVE as I usually do.
Today I received another abusive message with the PvP results as a picture msg and another calling me an incompetent potato who needs to be carried(if you look at my profile you can see the top player in my last PvP game ).
I'm annoyed with myself because I replied and used profanities instead of ignoring it.
Why did this one get to me so much when I've received much worse before?
I think it was because even with all the Luna/Dustrock/Wardcliff teams who would slaughter me as I spawn or within a few seconds I persevered and got my kd ratio from an average of about 0.2 to 1 or sometimes positive!
I then thought I'd try a few different weapons combos and even though my kd dropped alot I was 'FINALLY ENJOYING PVP.
Then this squirt today really took that away.
Stuff your PVP where the sun don't shine. You don't get toxic messages from the PVE community telling you to 'GIT GUD OR KILL YOURSELF LOSER'.
I know not all the PVP community are arrogant and toxic noob stompers but enough are to keep me out of the crucible in future.

As soon as you enjoy something, the true nasty cancer will crawl out of their holes, with infinite titan melee oneshots, one-eyed mask (which after the "nerf" is still the only exotic every titan ever uses), Shotgun apes, braindead Ace of Spades user, extreme snowballing and super-cycling. It's absolutely bad, without a doubt, PvP in this game, be it Gambit or Crucible is beyond unbalanced and bad. Do yourself a favor and stay away from those modes. Yeah they might have decent weapons and they also balance everything around this hot garbage fest, but it's not worth it. Get a nice clan, with nice clanmates and play some raids or just casually play and have fun with them. PvP is and always will be a toxic, unbalanced mess. You can thank the genius devs of Bungie for that.

A quick search on destinytracker.com showed me you're on PSN. Sony actually warns and bans players for this kind of shit. Report them.

Edited by JayStretch: 5/13/2019 12:39:20 PMI'm not playing D2 anymore, but still keeping up with the game in hopes it turns into something I want to play again. I never got many hate messages, but the few I got made me turn my messaging to friends only. I don't really care if I get messages like this or not, but I don't want my kids seeing things like that, so I prefer to avoid it altogether.

You're exactly correct! As much as I love PvP, and boy do I love it; the PvP community has some of the most toxic assholes. They have been indoctrinated within this PvP culture to think that being an asshole like that, is actually them being cool. Newsflash guys and girls... Stop the cliche messages... "Git gud... You're trash...noob... Just die... Etc"... I wish it would stop, but it won't. Your best bet is to turn your messages to private only. Since my fiance and I share this account, she's always getting blasted by people being rude because she's not good at PvP at all ( don't tell her I said that😳 ). So when she goes against a team with the NF in her load out, but posts a kda of about .4 , not they send some real hate mail. Not cool. The things people say are absolutely ridiculous. They'd never say those things face to face in real life. Look everyone, this guy is so correct. Why can't PvP players be more inclined to help newer and less skilled players to learn how to get better; instead of hauling off on them and being so rude?? I do my best to take players into a private matches and go over tactics and skills they can work on... Why more PvP players don't do this is a mystery to me...Pve is a completely different experience. There is far more commarodory in pve, and definitely far more respectful play... And don't get me wrong, you can find the occasional pve know it all.... But the ratio between PvP assess vs pve know it alls is staggering. Sorry man... The fact is, the majority of these toxic players you're justifiably taking about, are also more than likely not nice in real life. Sometimes this PvP world is the only place they have to be the asshole. Sucks.

Your experience is exactly why Bungie made fireteam voice communication an option and not the default, imo. And you don't have to actually read or listen to messages from people you don't know. Their opinions about your skill or performance don't matter. Just do the best you can, and ignore the schmucks out there.

2 RepliesThis actually happened. lol!!!- Loaded into a typical Comp match where 1 of our four players on our team left the match right when we touched down. The other team was a four stack with Luna’s, Shotty, and Wardclif. We get absolutely destroyed. This was the approximate results for our team Player 1 - Seven kills with 1.0 kdA Player 2 - Six kills with .67 kdA Me - Five kills with .97 kdA Player two(aka Captain 0 Self Awareness) sends a message telling me that I “suck”. Yeah! That actually happened. The absolute ego driven ignorance that some of these guys are defined by is breathtaking.

Them PvP boyes just butthurt you can clap them cheeks while they get mad that you popped their meta bubble. Be proud that you can outperform these band aid users.
-
I to have been playing games since pong, I remember a time when people played games for fun and not to make their D big . It's funny though right, how are you supposed to get better if you don't play ... When trash talk turns to murder threats block, report and forget about them ...
-
people are horrible. I was playing with a friend of mine and she was just getting back into the game and she got a ton of negative messages. I would say to make your profile private so jerks have no access to you. Or atleast when you pvp so you can play in peace.

1 ReplyEdited by Seoul: 5/13/2019 3:53:00 PMI only met ONE player in PVE to stay out of PVE and stick to PVP since i am a pvp main, next day i met him in pvp in the opposite team.
All hell broke lose.
-
I hear ya. I've gotten some abuse before as well. It's pretty rare. It doesn't bother a me a bit. I think it's funny. These sad sack boobs are the players that I want to tick off, so I'm good. Whenever I see posts from Cruci-babies whining about meta weapons or supers, I start using that stuff even more. So, sounds to me like you are doing it right.
-
You'd be surprised how PVE can be toxic too! I have had clan mates say they got toxic messages from fellow strike mates or Reckoning fireteams. Its not always on the pvp side. Best way is to clog your psn messages in the settings to friends only messages
-
Don't give up, just change your privacy settings so you can only receive messages from Friends for a start Iron Banner is a good way to try stuff out and get better, and it's back tomorrow. There are always low light level players subjecting themselves to the punishment for the powerful engrams, plus the Iron Burden is reducing the power level of better players. Try it, I'm sure you will have a blast

14 RepliesEdited by SaroN: 5/13/2019 4:58:58 PMIn PvE are most likely nice people if you cut out the raid part since it’s commutation based game mod. It’s PvP players which is so toxic! Edit: I cut the only out and added some extras;)

Is it bad that I've actually sent hate mail in PvE before? Lmao. To my credit, it was in a strike and the guy was literally doing just enough to not get kicked (like randomly jumping and running around in circles, definitely not being helpful or contributing). Back to your topic though, I hate to hear that you're experiencing that. Those little twats hide behind internet anonymity and like to pretend they're someone important. Don't let it get to you. I'd disable messages from anyone other than your friends if I was you. It really is sad that someone can say those kinds of hurtful things to another human being and be okay with themselves. I hate it when people call other people "trash" or tell them to "go kill themselves." It's just wrong! Would they ever say that to your face? Hell naw.
-
Disable messages from anybody who is not in your friend list. You will be happier and live longer.Trust me on this
-
Pvp made me very aggressive due to its frustration, thankfully my anger lasts a few minutes then I'm calm again. Though I cannot stand the pvp here, you'll be pushed for anything. Trying to do cqc? Boom. Shot gunned in the face. Quest relying on void kills? Everyone steals your kills. My point is pvp is not fun. Now mayhem is the only acception I have.

These days words are weapons. Not the words of love that we knew in the old day. Let's forget those peoples. "Let it Be" and "Imagine" that "There's A Place" where "All You Need is Love" because "Tomorrow Never Knows"! Everything is "Yesterday"
-
Well from what I noticed it's usually the 1.5 kd kids who act like this because the are deluded and think they are the best I know a few older guys who are 25 to 29 years old who help lessor player with comp etc for free and they sit at like a 2.5 kd etc I think it's just the old ying yang thing. for every few dicks there is one nice guy etc. it's just you hear about the dicks more than the nice guys.

Trash talk has spread like a disease on social media. It used to be you talked shit you dealt with the consequences but now anyone can say what they want without repercussions. There’s so many haters on social media that would get their ass beat talking shit IRL so I just learned to ignore them. They will purposely try to provoke you to respond then report you to get you comm banned. Just block any toxic POS that gets under your skin is the best advice I can give. Keep your head up man, there’s more good people out there than miserable pricks who only want to bring you down. ✌🏽

I know it's sad to say, but there are just jerks like that who exist. I just tell myself they have issues stemming from some problem in their waking life. Somehow obtaining their worth from a video game and anonymously being mean to others is very troublesome insight to another's psyche. Yeah, it's absurd and ridiculous, but what can you do in this life? That attitude is more prevalent in any game where PvP is concerned. It's not just Destiny. We've all gotten a few hate filled messages in our life. Best you can do is keep trucking forward. You got this, Guardian!
-
Just change message settings to friends only.will stop recieving messages in game and you can enjoy pvp with out the childish nonsense.

Edited by Zen Ape: 5/13/2019 2:50:29 PMFrom one long toothed grey beard to another, don't let it get you down. I actually enjoy PvP more than PvE, because it allows me to take bite sized pieces of the game that are always different. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy PvE as well, but it's always the same thing. The mobs are always the mobs and the boss is always the boss, and they are always at the same locations, and they always require the same types of strategies to beat. A PvP game however is different every single time, because your opponents and teammates (unless you are in a team) are different every single time, and the map is random. This leads to an amazing (for me anyway) array of play styles and dynamics which can be very very fun, or conversely, the exact opposite. Sounds like this game was the opposite for you, but as I love to say, "Keep Calm and Respawn". Don't know if you play on Xbox or not, but if so, look me up if you want a guided tour through the potential joys of PvP. I'm always looking for friendly and fun folks to play with who are long past puberty, and I can help keep the screeching Red Bull chugging rug rats off your 6.

3 RepliesIt's always been this way and it's not exclusive to destiny. That's just the way it is and no matter how many threads are made and reports are filed it's never going to change.

My first computer was a ZX Spectrum 48k when I was 6 years old. That might give you an idea of my age. In the time since then I have seen the gaming community come to life and then degrade into what it is today. Long gone are the days of "Nice Shot!" and genuine GG's. You play well, you're a hacker, kill yourself. You play badly, you're a noob, kill yourself. The variations on how to kill yourself are frankly disgusting and how anyone can think saying things like that to another human being, especially in a video game, is acceptable is completely beyond my understanding. Gaming used to be about having fun. I don't even know why half these people play nowadays.. they don't seem to be enjoying it, they get so angry at it. It's not just Destiny, actually I've only ever received one toxic whisper in Destiny 2, it's the gaming community in general - I've even had people try to be competitive in PVE games (!). People these days just don't know how to behave towards other people, they don't understand the vast difference between being positively competitive and negatively competitive. They don't understand that if you are a competitive person, and you're solo queueing, then your only competition is with yourself, for improvement. They don't understand that if you are a truly competitive person and you want to win, then you would be in a team - the reason you can't find a team is probably your attitude. Nobody wants to play with someone like that. The vast majority of games are completely spoilt by these people. If you want to continue to enjoy your experience then disable whispers and take solace in the fact that if anyone is being like that in Destiny 2 of all games, then they're only fooling themselves. D2 PVP is about as far from a competitive game as you can get.

Meta warriors are the problem with PVP, granted Bungie need to nerf hand cannons as a whole because there is no inbetween when it comes to pulses and hand cannons. You have the same old rubbish players using the pathetically easy guns shotgun and last word or ace. You should report the player instead, the community would be better off without that sort of try hard stat padders.
