-54 runs for DFA when it first came out
-99 EP ...COMPLETE RUNS...for Ikelos shotty when it first came out
-250+ Leviathan encounters for Skyburners Catalyst
-65 Calus kills to get the raid ghost
Others I have seen:
-30+ runs for 1000 Voices (they quit the game)
-20+ runs for Anarchy (they quit the game)
-no ship (have ran entire ST 3 times each 3rd week helping someone...still no drop for him. How many runs is that since Foresaken drop?)
The point is, the RNG is broken and there has been NO ATTEMPT to fix the whole platform. NF seems to be better to a small degree.
There is a fine line between giving things away vs bad RNG. Personally I would rather deal w bad RNG, but both suck.
A proposed fix to this would be an unlock at the respective vendors. This is only an example: to unlock the Ikelos EP weapons at Anna Bray....50 final boss clears, 500 resources, 50,000 glimmer. That's a lot of stuff to unlock them. BUT after 50 clears, you KNOW you can at least obtain the weapon. Up to this point, the same RNG we have now could take effect. ***All specific RNG legendary dropped items could be done this way*** this would NOT apply to QUEST specific legendaries such as Luna's Howl, Not Forgotten, Redrix Broadsword, the Zavala weapons. (U want those weapons? Do the quest!!) Exotic raid items like Anarchy, 1000 Voices, catalysts, Ghost, etc would have escalating drop chance, OR you could buy from the vendor with ONE HEFTY PRICE TAG...ie, Anarchy-->100 Scourge Clears (any "clear" would count even if u got the chests on all 3 characters per week-apply to all items)
1000 Voices --> 100 Riven LW clears
Catalysts (Leviathan)--> 5,000 Calus tokens EACH (15,000 for all 3)
Random Roll strike specific (ie NF) loot could have a base model at the vendor with the absolute worst perks for that respective weapon just for the sake of unlocking it - this would be free after 10 attempts. Random rolls / curateds would still stay in RNG
Some will argue that a looter game should be 100% RNG. And up to a certain point, I agree wholeheartedly. But when you have invested 2400+ hours into a game and still cant get some RNG drops to complete Triumphs (which dont award u anyway) is proof that the system is broken.

4 RepliesRNG Needs to be addressed because it's a joke, especially for the items that the Seals require. They really need to add "bad luck protection" to all activity specific loot by increasing the drop rate for every clear of the activity without getting it to drop. They need to exponentially increase the drop rate as well. You increase your drop rate by a factor of 15% (or whatever makes sense) each clear. So if you start out with a 2% drop rate then after 12 clears your drop rate would be about 10% and by 24 clears it would be around 57% and by your 28th clear you would get a guaranteed drop because your drop rate would be 100%. Obviously the multiplier of 15% is just something I used for the sake of discussion, but you get the point. The key fact here is that this game has an end date. It won't go on forever with perpetual DLCs. People want to have FUN playing this game and why should "everyone else" get to have fun with the sought after gear for the entire lifecycle of that gear and you get it at as the door is closing? This literally happened to a former clan-mate. He got the Jade Rabbit in D1... from Xur... AFTER D2 LAUNCHED! That is just beyond ridiculous.

Edited by Allant: 2/27/2019 6:51:36 AMi shouldn't watch forsaken trailer in the first place it's frustrating that i can't quit chasing 1mtK voices and this addicting game RNG system is some kind of drug . -"Every players is addicts in Bungie's eyes"

1 ReplyGot Shards the same day they were nerfed. To say I was pissed is an understatement. Basically quit the game and probably won't be back until D3, maybe.
-
Couldn’t have said it any better. I’m literally at the point of only logging on for shattered throne to only be disappointed for the 3 runs every 3 weeks. The RNG on these items is insane.

Amen Especially for cosmetic items /glares angrily in Pallas Galliot

5 RepliesI have dedicated much time to this game because I enjoy it and the community of my clanmates. I have been chasing titles, badges, and triumphs since we got them which I think was a great idea. But the RNG is designed to reward players that put in minimal time. If you spend a week or two off destiny, it will prove itself in the following week of playing. I'm not against RNG, letting everyone get their hands on everything is a poor design as it doesn't give incentive for players to learn, adapt, and get better to achieve what they are looking for. That's what I think the goal should be from a developers perspective. Business perspective is important and not to be forgotten but with a developed franchise as destiny has become it is also just as important to keep fan base excited and interested for the love of the game itself. I have achieved a majority of the triumphs and collectibles in the game and am at a point where 90% of what I feel I have left to do for my personal trophy list is RNG based. I have done shattered throne, DC weekly bounties and other grinds, and Last Wish many times over week after week. And still have not found a glittering key, DC ghost, DC ship, or DC & LW sparrows. I have ran countless nightfalls and have only received maybe half of the exclusive rewards. What really bothers me is bungie is bungie announced they are making the dredgen title easier to achieve?! That is the easiest of all titles to achieve! I know players who have their dredgen title yet struggle to run simple raids with a skilled team. Same people who think earning redrix or lunas can and will never happen for them unless they pay someone. What about the players who spend a lot of time on your servers bungie? The ones that don't question whether or not they want to spend money on a future dlc, instead purchase it without a second thought the moment it is released for sale. Why cater to whiny brats who complain easy things are too hard to achieve, when these are the same players who will probably put your game on the shelf after achieving such on replace of another game from another developer? Yet players who dedicate what time and focus they can, get the shaft from horrible RNG. There has to be a solution. I'm not asking to take RNG away, I'm not asking for easy loot or to be catered too. I'm asking for a solution for dedicated players. I personally like the thread author's idea. Put a price on some of this loot. Make it hard, even ridiculous to purchase in game, but make it achievable in the scenario where dedicated players get burnt out grinding for the same thing week after week month after month. Putting a price on certain rewards, or adjusting the RNG drop rate seem to be the only ideas I can think of. But if you continue to cater to the equivalent of whiny children again and again, instead of dedicated players, how do you expect to keep your core fan base? I left D1 for such reasons after year 1 and had no intentions of purchasing D2 until my son asked for it for his birthday in 2017. I have been dedicated on D2 and play with my 15yo son proudly nearly every day. I don't want to change to a different daily game with my son, but am starting to feel a bit burnt out chasing items over and over, while watching players with half the time I've put in and less understanding of the game wearing the titles that seem to be out of reach for myself due to bad RNG. I'm not going anywhere yet or planning to, but if the rest of this year stays the same, I make no promises.

The awful rng us burning me out. I've been trying to get the braytech auto rifle for over a month now. Every time I play I go to mars, grind out events I've done a million times in the hope a weapons schematic will drop. I'll hand that in to get yet another frigid Jackal. I've had 12 in a row now. I'm not exaggerating there. 12 of the same gun. How is that even rng? Why am I being forced to run boring old content to get a title that's purely based on rng? Its a Terrible boring grind and I've promised my clan mates that I'll film myself snapping my d2 disc in half if I get one more frigid Jackal. I'm actually quite looking forward to doing it.

What they should do is apply what they did with EP and NFs. If you didn’t get it the first try, give a little more boost to get it when you compete it again and then again until you get it. What drive me crazy is the ship and ghost drop for dreaming city. The drops are low alrdy and having to do that every 3 weeks is ridiculous.

4 RepliesI freaked a little last night when the gambit sparrow dropped for me. It was like seeing a ghost lol. I just stopped thinking I’d ever get these rng vehicles etc.

2 RepliesI'd tell you a joke about 1k voices....but you'll probably never get it 🤔

1 ReplyI want the Cursebreaker title before March 30th because guess what? They have a time limit to get the pin. A time limit based on RNG and I still don't have the Ship or Ghost Shell, despite playing almost every week since Forsaken dropped. That's a slap in the face. I help new people run Shattered Throne and sure enough the ship drops for them. I'm a dedicated player, why can't I get the items I need to give you even MORE money for a pin?

13 RepliesWhat adds insult to injury for so many people is by the time you get some of the exotics or weapons you are chasing, they have either been nerf'd or are in the process of being nerf'd. People act like you have all season to get things, but the fact is if you don't get them in the season they drop and relatively soon, if it's good it won't be by the time you get it. I am all for balance, but Bungie overcorrects at every turn. It's also huge slap in the face to your most dedicated players chasing seals because they are the only ones you really have left playing your game and you punish them week after week with a shitty RNG mechanic. It should signal that Bungie doesn't even care about their most dedicated player base either.

1 ReplyI'm a rather new player, and I'm starting to feel it too when trying to get my prometheus lens catalyst. Of course, of all the strike catalysts I get, it's wardcliff coil: a weapon I will probably never use in the things I do. I've always been more of proponent for being able to steadily work towards something at a trackable pace than relying on luck. I don't mind the grind, I've got over 6,000 hours in War Thunder which puts many other games' grinds to shame, but I do mind not being able to tell when the goal will be met.

4 RepliesWell said OP. I have played this game a lot and while I love most of it, the drop mechanics leave a lot to be desired. I am not going to call it RNG because certain patterns I have seen playing D1 and D2 over the years show me it isn't random at all. The pattern of casual players getting awesome exotics is very noticeable and I have seen it mentioned on many different posts. Many times in raids I have seen this scenario play out. The Last Wish sparrow or One Thousand Voices dropping for a casual player on their first run when regular players still don't have it after 30+ raids. It seems like a mechanic to keep people playing. Give the awesome drop to the casual to try and turn them into a regular, and space out the awesome drops for the regulars to keep items just out of reach and keep them playing. The people that play the hell out of the game get everything and berate the regulars for complaining about the lack of real randomness in the drop mechanics. The messages on the screen saying "PlayerName just got this bad-ass drop" is another obvious feature to entice people to keep playing. In my opinion if you have compelling things to do in a game, there is no need for these sorts of item drop mechanics to keep people playing. Having skill-based activities like the Whisper of the Worm quest are really the most fulfilling ways to get rare items. Doing the same PvE event 50+ times to the point of tedium leaves you with a feeling of relief rather than a feeling of accomplishment when you finally get that drop you were going for. At the very least there should be a cap on the amount of times you do something to get a certain drop (both high and low). Or like many others have suggested, allow for vendors to sell certain pieces of rare gear you can purchase with currency earned from the same PvE activity. After all, is obtaining that item the real fun, or is the real fun the things you do with those items?

5 RepliesI just read a Reddit post from a guy that barely plays. He just opened up Gofannon forge and got the curated kindled orchid on his first hand cannon forge. Moral of the story: stop playing this game. If you play everyday nothing ever drops. Trust me I played way too much and every day and I don’t get jack when I forge weapons. I have all of the lore and the exotic ship- probably 150 weapons forged without one curated or god roll. Same goes for the shattered throne ship. The only ppl who get things in this game are noobs. Bungie designed this game to screw over dedicated players so they play more. STOP PLAYING.

Isn't that what RNG is supposed to be ...
-
Play this game for fun with some friends not some loot man it'll make it better.

7 RepliesTypical mono cellular organism doesn’t understand what an algorithm is. This is not excel’s RNG. There is no damn bell curve. Bungie RNG is not designed to reward playtime, ever!!! Bungie’s RNG is designed to normally distribute missing collectibles over a projected time period that is a function of your average daily hours played to the product life cycle end date, somewhere in 2021. Now if you can’t understand the above paragraph, it means that the RNG is designed to incentivize profiles that aren’t playing much or inconsistently, and on the other side to reward very little to profiles that are very active. Once again, Bungie isn’t an unemployment agency, but a business that has the objective to provide each profile of player with a feel of the Destiny experience. You want a job, look for it. This is a game.

Can’t even use the term broken anymore

The other end of the scale, I have been ridiculously fortunate with rng many times. I only raided relatively few times in d1, in that 20 or so total completions of all raids combined I got ; Vex mythoclast, yr1 necrocasm, word of Crota, pretty much everything but fatebringer. I don’t grind in d2, just log in a couple of hours a day, I have all hunter exotics, dropped EP shotty on my second completion, lord of wolves within the first week, etc, etc. I totally agree, it’s badly broken. Many of the guys I raided with had done countless completions still desperate to get a gun I dropped on my second run. I’m certain there’s an algorithm that rewards the more casual player. The more effort you put in, the more diluted your drops become 🤷♂️

2 RepliesI fail to see how people do not understand what the term “random” means. Has the definition changed?
-
4 RepliesEdited by YourMother1972: 2/23/2019 10:01:51 AMThe RNG you need for the Osiris and Warmind collection to get the Wayfarer title is truly insane. The Osprey rocket launcher from the Strange Terrain nightfall hardly drops and getting the right Braytech weapons was a true burden as well. And then you have to start collecting those Ikelos weapons... To be honost the drop rate of exotics in the Black Armory seems better acceptable. Still a grind but with a purpose it seems.

So? I mean, if this is what deters you from the game then, uh, I'm...sorry?

2 RepliesAnother week of doing all Dreaming City activities on all three characters (since October) and NO ghost, ship or sparrow.
