Recently I’ve noticed that Ikora is one out of a number of racially diverse character in the destiny franchise (aside from awoken and exos) but aside from her skin color she doesn't have physical attributes of black people and the same probably true of other characters as well and I don’t know if it was due to lack of story telling potential while under the deal with Activision but whatever the reason we need some more diverse characters...also on that point...I myself am a black female and I in some ways identify with Ikora but I can’t identify with her on her physical appearance. Her lack of hair and her lack of shape cause me to lose touch with this character...I hope someone understands and agrees with me on this. I think bungie should look into adding more racially diverse characters and make them actually resemble the people group whom they represent...Or even make some small physical changes to the already existing characters. I’m not saying destiny isn’t diverse but if everyone is the same height and build then that makes for somewhat of a lackluster experience trying to connect with these characters.

1 ReplyMaybe you can try connecting to people regardless of their race and physical appearance?

Good idea...i would love to fight against larger guardians in the crucible they would make better targets, taller ones too ,their heads would stick out of cover.

She's really should stay far far away from videogames. No need for any of you idiots anywhere near games.

2 Replies<Does it matter in the End? The Darkness kills all indiscriminately. In its eyes nothing but it will survive the fire. Once the Traveler does -blam!- the rest. The Hive will die, the Worms will die, the Nine will fade, humanity will be extinct. Nothing matters. NOTHING NO ONE IT is strong and IT always wins. It all ENDS. EVERYTHING and EVERYONE will be consumed by the dark blue flames of the Deep. All will fall at the might of the Darkness! Its reckoning will be glorious! All problems will be solved in one swift and beautiful motion! We will ALL get the gift we, as sentient beings, so richly deserve... Extinction.>

ITS A -blam!-ING VIDEO GAME WHO CARES. Why does it matter what race/gender they are? It’s literally pixels and 1s and 0s

D2 could use some more character customization or at least the ability to change our hair cut from time to time. However, id much rather recources be spent on gear and maps, or developing the characters we already have. I understand why you would want what your are asking for but in the case of a game where we spend the majority of our time with our helmets on, looking down a scope or trying to decide wich roll we like best, I just dont think this something we need right now.
Also most of the "diversity" Destiny has put into the game has been lgbt, and in a way that made many of us feel like it was something done more for pollitical reasons as it didnt really teach us anything about the characters.
To be honest, in my 35+ years gaming, I’ve never related to any video game characters and I’m your typical white male for which most of these games are made. But I do respect your request, it wouldn’t bother me in the slightest.
-
There are bigger issues in destiny that need to be addressed...
-
3 Repliesi know right... we dont have one white person... its all blacks and blues.

This better be satire.

1 ReplyWho care go back to wakanda

5 RepliesOk, this is ridiculous. It is as ridiculous as the last post I read from some guy complaining about the lack of straight white male characters in this game... You already have a character in the game that can represent you. It is the character you made at the start of the game. If that does not represent you, then you are in luck - there are two other spots to make a character. Have one of them represent you. The entire narrative centers around your character. So, in essence, every single person is represented if they so choose. That is the beauty of video games - you control the narrative (for the most part). IN these MMO-esque games, they take it a step further where you can literally put yourself in the game (or rather a representation of yourself).

5 RepliesThat's the great thing about designing a science fiction, video game world, they don't need to worry about representing the population of the audience. As the creators, they can do anything they want because they are building the world. The game is set hundreds of years in the future in a war torn time, there's a good chance that Darwin's Theory of Evolution has been hard at work and has eliminated several DNA combinations. The survivors may have also unlocked the key to the perfect diet and medicine that causes them to all have the same overall build. The bodies are similar because they have evolved into a build that promotes survivability. It may take place in a parallel universe where certain attributes never materialized. Or... it's far cheaper to use cookie cutter character models. Why spend millions to create a diverse representation of a population, that may have absolutely nothing in common with the video game world, when you can get by for a fraction of the cost by just making smaller changes?
-
One answer: They shouldn't need to care. If the story writers think that if they're black or Chinese or whatever else, they'll make them that way, if they don't they shouldn't have to. If you don't have enough racially diverse characters in the game, you're criticised If you have too many, then you're criticised because they're token characters.

1 ReplyDestiny occurs in the future. Where all we see is human. I feel that would be the better image to push here rather than to conform to aging stereotypes. Over time, we will all look more and more alike.

25 Replies"Eris, take your sjw bullcrap off my map .. " seriously, with all those glaring issues that destiny has THIS is your concern? i play as an awoken female , and i am definitely lacking the boobs the super pale skin and the glowing eyes... but i can still have fun. and i may not be madly in love with Destiny at the moment but i do rather not want this franchise to go broke after the "get woke , go broke" scheme that was carried out for dr.who, star Treck, orville, star wars, ghostbusters, solo, battlefield v, mass effect andromeda and many more.. plus adding more diverse geometry in Destiny is excactly what bungie tries to avoid to not crash the memory of the consoles.. so , how about a simple "no".? if you have problems to identfy with your guardian, then this is a "you" problem and not a diversity problem..

1 ReplyLibturd alert. I predict the bashing of white people, and trying to convince everyone that anyone who supports DT is racist, forthcoming.

Or you could just suck it up and connect yourself to true people like your parents or grand parents instead of trying to hold emotional value to a videogame character.

3 RepliesWhat does it matter? It's a video game...
