Is there a development issue that makes this difficult? I don’t understand why it becomes obsolete. Is it intended to eventually become obsolete? And if so, why? I don’t understand why something would be created in a game with the intention of it becoming obsolete BEFORE the intended/predicted expiration of the game’s life cycle. Is there a reason players can’t have what equates to simply just more appearance options?
The forges could even be made to be used for this. Players could select a piece of year 1 armor from collections, acquire something from Ada that is applied to said piece of armor, then a forge ignition alters it to align with the year 2 perk and enhancement system. Random rolls on perks of course.
Why can’t this be a thing? Give players more reasons to play. I’d really like an “official” response on this because I don’t understand. It just seems like such a terrible and unnecessary waste.
Edit: Thanks for all the responses and support of this everyone.
At the very least, endgame/activity specific and event armor should be made to reflect the year 2 system. Leviathan raid armor, EP armor, Solstice, Eververse events, etc.

6 RepliesAll their hard work on the horrible looking y2 armor would be for nothing 🤔

1 ReplyWe need vanity slots. Solstice armor kinda sorta had something similar. You could change the armor to look like the previous versions of itself. We should have a slot next to the shader slot that allows us to select any armor piece that we've collected to change the appearance of the armor we're wearing.
-
I -blam!-ing love your forge idea. They deff should do that.

3 RepliesEdited by Keightley: 1/11/2019 12:18:05 PMI grinded my ass off for the Solstice armour.. and it was obsolete weeks later. Makes me wonder if it's worth grinding at all for armours that i like..
-
I'm pissed we worked so hard for that stupid triumph armor and its useless immediately after we masterwork it. Plus I really loved the armor we got grinding for the ikelos guns. I liked my hunter looking like that.
-
Hey, that’s a cool idea. Forges would be a smart way to somehow rework past DLC gear to be usable in endgame.

The codebase for vanilla d2 didn't have random rolls programmed in which is why there are year 1 and year 2 versions of the same weapons as well. In short. Yes, there is a development side to why this can't work. Forsaken's new code was literally written over what was already there. The Vanilla D2 code hasn't been rewritten to add the new things as to pull that off Bungie would have had to pull the game down, rewrite, load up, and restart the servers. None of this was an option for Destiny 2 as it's a live service game and this process likely would have taken months to do.

14 RepliesI don't even understand the point of being able to look at armor and weapons in the "Collections" if you cannot RE-Acquire them, because they have random rolls. That is exactly what people have wanted from the game. A way to spend in game currency, to re-roll something. Random rolls, are great. I have been holding my breath every time I level up Banshee, in hopes of getting a Halfdan. I have gotten ONLY ONE, since year 2 started. It was the worst roll of any gun I have ever gotten. I would love to be able to go into my collection, Hold down 1 button, and throw a bunch of currency at getting a random roll, on something I have already earned once. I don't see that as game breaking.

No kidding I want to use the masterwork reroll function to reroll y2 perks and to (re-roll) my year 1 armor to give it perks. That way I can actually have cool armor with perks I care about. Considering both getting an armor piece I want, AND having it perfectly rolled os impossible.

The Wildwood mask (hunter) is my favorite helmet in the game. I put Midnight Talons on just about every piece of armor I keep, so you can imagine my excitement too see that it’s a silver gas mask with a gold filter. Badass and fancy

1 ReplyMy warlock is still wearing the yr 1 armor and don't care about the random perks added in yr 2 sets. I have tried to do forge works in my yr1 armor set and no death record. I see no reason why they should be obsoleted.
-
I just two manned Shattered Throne wearing all year one armour apart from an exotic. Could still put mods in them, so they aren’t a huge issue. But I do still agree they should come with random rolls now. Even if there was a consumable you could buy from Xur that would upgrade a year 1 piece you’d pulled from collections to year 2 and gave that piece random rolled perks.
-
Well said my dude year 1 stuff needs dem rolls
-
Money.... Activision is gone so the chances this happens went up.
-
I miss my Took Offense vanguard armor with season 3 ornaments and Leviathan gear. I agree.

BUNGIE PLEASE MAKE A CATALYST FOR IZANAGI BURDEN PLEASE ( SPRAY AND PLAY ) If u do u guys rock.

1 ReplyThey need more drip content, so year 1 armor will be drip content
-
1 ReplyThe reason so much armor etc is outdated is that the game has changed since then, eg armor got massively re-worked so did weapons, but by then so many were already out. To update all of them, pluscreate new gear the same time, while making new content, was apparently too much for them. I wish they would update all that sutff but don't hold your breath. For that or a response from Bungee, I've seen hundreds of good ideas on here, and only ever seen 2 actual replies from bungee.
-
We NEED to be able to buy them from the collection again, with random rolls. Right now, the collection is a useless mess. Good idea, badly implemented.
-
2 RepliesStreamers wanting random rolls back. 'Must bow down to streamers.'

My titan misses his EP armor. By far the best looking armor for titans in d2 and maybe even in d1 in my opinion.
-
Ive been asking for this for months and no response. Good luck.
-
They did it with year two gear also. You can wear year two gear, but it doesn't have the perks new armor sets have (extra perk slot) and the weapons have one fewer slot as well. Dawning armor from 2018? Obsolete. In fairness to Bungie, they did worse with gear in D1 post House of Wolves (best era IMO).
-
1 ReplyMaybe now that Activision is gone, Bungie could do something cool.

Edited by Lt-Elhew-_USMC: 1/11/2019 12:56:44 PMGreat post! I worked hard getting the EDZ armor. Kept it the camouflage look. It was as close to a Military look as I could get. I did hate the helmet so I replaced it with the one from Io. Was not that happy with the size of the sholder pads for my Titan. Wished they were not so over sized. I think that looks stupid. Anyway great Idea. I do wish they would come up with a more Military style armor set. Like a special forces look. Much of what we have is dopey looking!

honestly just want to use that devastation armor, looks amazing
