Equipped a gear with 500 defense but doesn't increase power level

You are level 20. That requires level 43.

As you can see the gear states that it requires level 43. Which means just that. From your post I can see you are currently level 20. To get higher than this you will need to purchase the Forsaken DLC.

Are you missing the point of the picture that has a redline right above the weapon that says you must be level 43 ?
