Again it is not daft, it is english. And while i admit english can be rather confusing and convoluted, it does have some rules that it mostly follows. And one such rule is that the word that makes a statement into a question does not necessarily have to appear at the beginning of the word.
English
-
No, the rule is that to be a question, it must be a question. For example... Can you tell me “why” you feel that way? Troll, I have forgotten more about the English language than you know.
-
Well it would appear you forgot one to many things because you forgot that what i said in my original post does indeed count as a question.
-
Only among the undereducated.
-
And yet if that is the case then they would be one step ahead of you. Because if even the undereducated can see that, it says a lot. Maybe our education systems are better than people give them credit for?
-
And that is still six steps ahead of you... You don’t know the difference between a question and a statement. That is elementary school shit there... Keep your “education” to yourself.... I prefer literacy.
-
I guess i will just re paste the information i found for you. You do not need a question mark because the sentence is what is called an "indirect question." Indirect questions do not close with a question mark but with a period. Like direct questions they demand a response, but they are expressed as declarations without the formal characteristics of a question. Maybe next time double check that you are actually right about something, before attempting to insult anothers intelligence.
-
Your statement doesn’t conform to the definition of an indirect question. R. I. F.
-
Go read the other reply, if you would be so kind.
-
With the first example, the statement was to find out why the person moved. In your example, it is not to find out why people complain in forums, it was to attack the fact they do. That is the difference, plain and simple.
-
So you are saying that i presented what looked like a question, but really i didnt mean it as a question. In other words what i said follows the rules for being a question, without a doubt, but now it comes down to the motives behind it. And who else would know my motives better than you. Wait a minute, somehow that statement doesnt seem to make a lot of sense, does it?
-
It doesn’t follow any rules for questions...NONE of them.... Lol
-
Ah so you are just going to ignore all the ones I just presented to you? I see how it, very well, you have fun with that mindset of yours.
-
Lol you gave examples that I crushed. You might as well have posted the definition of the word “frog”. Just posting a definition doesn’t mean that your statement fits the definition.
-
So your version of “crushing” my examples is failing to give even close to a similar example to what I wrote by adding in a negative statement after a question (something I did not do), and then resorting to the statement of “I know what you really meant”. Alright there buddy, what every helps you feel better about the whole thing.
-
No, my crushing your examples was showing that your statement didn’t adhere to the definition of an indirect question nor did it conform to your examples.
-
Edited by Nickel7Dime: 10/12/2018 9:41:14 AMWhere did it not adhere to the rule? Your statement was that it wasn’t a direct question because it wasn’t meant to be a question. A rule that does not exist in the rules for how to write an indirect question. Mainly because it would be a rule that relies on opinion rather than anything that can be physically proven.
-
An indirect question is a query. Your statement was not a query. Your comment, either directly or indirectly, failed to pose a question. It made a statement saying that you can’t relate to their thinking. You weren’t wondering why... You weren’t looking for understanding... You were looking to tell them they’re wrong... The very same thing you are trying, against reality, to tell me...
-
Edited by Nickel7Dime: 10/12/2018 9:56:05 AMAgain, that statement of "i know what you meant better than you know what you meant". Man what a solid argument. Yup you crushed me you win, how could i ever argue against such flawless undeniable proof. You have a good one, i hope this victor pleases you more than anything else could. And thank you for showing me what i truly meant.
-
Lol I’ve already told you I can’t speculate on events in a place I can’t even prove exists. What goes on in your mind is conjecture, I only have the passive aggressive diatribe you spew to go on....
-
Edited by Nickel7Dime: 10/12/2018 5:19:30 PMYup, oooooh man, there it is again. Cant get anything past your sharp whit. What was i thinking. Here i was thinking i was asking a question, but you sure showed me. I must have been acting passive aggressively all along, and my statement must have been dismissive instead of a question as i thought i originally intended, because you have told me as much. Man i am so sorry, how could i have been so foolish to argue with such unequivocal intelligence? There you go, you win, happy now? Ps: i hope you remember those grammar lessons that i had to reteach you (since apparently you forgot so much), maybe next time you can just get past all those pesky actual rules and just get to the end result of it all coming down to your opinion about what the person meant. It would save everyone a whole lot of time and headache if you could remember these simple lessons.
-
Grammar lessons?!?! From you?!?! Really?!?! It’s amazing, you try to insult my intelligence while misspelling “wit.” Then, your second sentence requires a question mark. Not even going further...that’s just two of your first three sentences. You’re a dumbass. Period.
-
Edited by Nickel7Dime: 10/12/2018 5:20:15 PMStill a mile ahead of you seeing as only one of us actually knew what a questions was. You have been proven incorrect at every turn, and now your true feelings of anger and annoyance come out. For a person that claimed to have forgotten more about english than i know, you certainly didnt seem to know basic things like; there are forms of questions that dont require question marks, and that questions do not have to have the wh- word in the beginning, only before the subject. You have fun there buddy boy, and i hope that just maybe you finally learnt something, then maybe all this nonsense wouldnt be such a waste of time. PS: it was my third sentence that technically needed a question mark, you may want to look up the definition of a sentence. Also it has now been fixed, does this please you oh great master of grammar who didnt know the basics about how questions were formed?
-
Edited by celeb2112: 10/12/2018 5:20:12 PMCome back when you can spell three-letter words.... You and your erroneous opinions are dismissed. P.S. lol OMG “Learnt” lol Dumbass
-
Edited by Nickel7Dime: 10/12/2018 5:24:44 PMHey buddy, did you know a question doesnt always have to have a question mark? Oh wait, we already established that you didnt. Lol. I wasnt the one to claim to be some master of the english language, that was you. And yet it was you who was proven wrong. Also is there a problem with the word learnt? You know the past tense of learn. It was the correct use of the word, so not sure what you find so funny?
-
Lol I didn’t say a question required a question mark, I said THAT specific question did....
