I remember seeing this Subclass tree before Forsaken came out, and I thought it would be pretty nice. When Forsaken did come out, however, I unlocked it first, thinking it would be pretty good.
Needless to say, it is by far one of the most lackluster skill trees of any super.
First of all: The super itself has hardly any hit registration and the tracking is absolute garbage.
Second: Its new melee ability is so disappointing. The new Stormcaller tree gets a projectile melee, and the new Sunbreaker tree gets a throwable hammer, and what does the new Nightstalker tree get? A freakin’ smoke grenade that doesn’t have any added effects.
Third: The passive abilities are alright, however, the need to crouch before the “Flawless Execution” Buff activates takes away from the Subclass as a whole, as nobody crouches. Another thing is that in Crucible, the ability to see through walls doesn’t really activate unless you have harmed an opponent beforehand which kinda defeats the purpose of it. The “melting point” effect is alright, I guess.
TL,DR: The new Nightstalker skill tree is kinda trash, it should be buffed.

I meaaaaan I main way of the wraith and tbh its extremely deadly if you learn how to adjust. I destroyed teams of 4 in comp using a sniper and bow, and the invis and melee extension really helps in PvP too. The super is lackluster yes. But they're buffing it soon. It requires a high skill cap tbh. I hope they buff the damage over time of the smoke nade. Oh and the seeing thru walls works ALL the time in invis it has a bonus of highlighting an enemy who is close to death, and it has a set distance into which you can see the enemies as well. Just get used to crouching and use a bow or a sniper and pair it with a aggressive hand cannon. My personal favorites is duke mk.44 and subtle calamity or No Turning Back and Fate Cries Foul. Go for a FCF with firmly planted, and a hand cannon with it as well. Good luck

You're right about everything you said, but one thing I would add. The super needs a resilience buff. One shotgun blast and you're done. I've rocketed other subclasses and they don't go down. One shotgun blast shouldn't take you down, if so shotguns should be moved to heavy..again. also seriously bungie idk how many times I've just pushed the person away trying to slice them, it shouldn't take 3 hits to kill someone it just wastes the super. Still have yet to get a second seed of light when doing all the activities recommended for it to drop. Can't wait for anthem to come out and do right everywhere you did wrong.

2 Repliesi've been maining the way of the wraith since it came out and you're right about everything except the smoke nade
-
When you learn how to play around flawless execution the kit is super strong. It has a higher skill cap to use effectively, that’s why most people are calling it trash. The super does need better hit registration.

1 ReplyI've returned to thus thread with an update on my opinion of way of the wraith. Way of the wraith is firstly not for crucible. Second it works better than you give it credit for. The thing is that it asks the most dedication from the player. I've built up my armor around this way. Increased my dodge cool down immensely and run gambler's dodge. Got my best precision weapons for invisibility and made a habit of crouching before taking shots. This is not a full explanation of my build yet. Just the basics. I can rush in easily after getting FE working. Stab an enemy to weaken them. Gamblers dodge away to get a smoke bomb then melt them with poison smoke + grenade + heavy weapon. All with minimal damage.

3 RepliesThe super itself isn’t great, with the new exotic it gets its not half bad though, hit registration on all the melee supers need to be looked at, and spectral blade arguably has the best neutral game across the board, the nade + smoke combo from D1 is back in full force and flawless execution is amazing, it’s not the easiest class to use that’s for sure, but once you understand it, you can become a god in the crucible.
-
4 RepliesYeah. Trash subclass. Hunters got the shaft this dlc
-
Okay fist of all, the smoke should add a poison/burn effect. Secondly imo flawless execution only activating when crouched Is really situational and inconvenient. (But I can understand it,just don’t like it.) Also they should add the ability where whilst in flawless execution a melee hit from the back is a ohko. With regards to the super it should be like the only blade dancer where it only takes super energy on hit with the ability to swipe the air indefinitely, or give it a dodge like arc strider. Also, fix hit registration. On a side note rework graviton forfiet so that dodging makes you invisible.

1 ReplyTested in Private today. Tossed a smoke at my friend and he sat in the corrosive smoke. It ALMOST Broke his shield. They do this with throwing knife too. These ranged throws dirty abysmal damage. Titans got a throwing hammer and its a melee but ranged. Doesnt it do like 100 damage?

3 RepliesIf you have Way of a Thousand Cuts unlocked then there’s no point in using anything else... hands down the best Hunter subclass at the moment
-
1 ReplyThis breaks my heart....I was REALLY looking forward to this super!!! But now... It sounds to me like maybe Flawless Execution & Truesight (seeing behind walls) needs to be changed to ole Bladedancers invis rules to activate, then any precision kills while invis will refresh invis/sight duration. IMPO that would be better. As for the Super... IMPO all the wandering supers need their duration buffed. They are over with in the blink of an eye. But from all the videos & etc... This super needs the most help period.

I agree with hit registration but it's other abilities are nothing to sneeze at, and the smoke does DoT so it is useful, but the super, damn it is so annoying seeing people completely thwart me by jump and floating, I get a little triggered lol.

4 RepliesSomething I came up with for a rework to the Wraith Tree: The Way of the Wraith Super Ability - Shadow Strike: Deploy a smoke cloud at your current location which grants all allies inside invisibility that refreshes shortly after they break it by any means. While the smoke cloud is active, exiting it grants you invisibility for up to 5 seconds and empowers your next melee to deal heavy damage and disorient its target. (The smoke cloud lasts for 10 seconds and the disorient from your strike lasts for 2 seconds. You can activate the invisibility and melee empowerment as many times as possible while the smoke remains active.) Melee Ability - Ensnaring Smoke: Throw a smoke grenade which lasts 5 seconds and prevents enemies inside of it from moving while it is active. Damaging a snared enemy increases the damage of the attack and frees them. Passive 1 - Flawless Execution: Landing a precision hit on an enemy grants a stack of Flawless Execution. At 5 stacks, crouching consumes them to immediately grant invisibility and the Flawless Execution buff. While active, Flawless Execution increases the amount of damage your precision hits deal to enemies. Passive 2 - Unseen Threat: While invisible, melee attacking an enemy from behind deals bonus damage and weakens the target. If the melee kills the target, you gain super energy.

2 RepliesCrouching takes about .001 seconds. We sprint everywhere anyway, so i slide into most engagements. I spend about 95% of any activity invisible cutting through every enemy group without being seen. If you dont spam the supers attack button like a coked out 6 year old but instead spacing and timing attacks lock on has no issues and cuts through pretty much anything. Its certainly more interesting than the new arc staff, which is literally just arc staff but slightly more usefull than the original

2 RepliesFlawless execution is actually godlike, you just aren’t using it right. Use chaperone and just slide shotgun people or wait around corners. Or learn how to t-bag strafe and use a hand cannon or pulse rifle. You can also equip weapons that have firmly planted or field prep, and sneak bow for bows. As for the super, yeah that needs a buff. The whole thing can be rendered useless if an enemy just jumps, it doesn’t last long at all, and the hit reg is abysmal. And while their at it buff sentinel hit reg.
-
I was too hype on that super before forsaken drops actually my 1st new super till I found it very underwhelming then I got my 2nd new super by having that seed of light from doing blind well now I’m having a blast on the thousand blades solar super 🔥🔥🔥
-
3 RepliesSentinel Gang, we've had the problem for a full year, and by the looks of things, so will you
-
Yeah spectral blades is dogshit. I remember playing with it in pvp and thinking, why don't I just use -blam!-ing arcstrider? It isn't like spectral blades are enjoyable except for the invisibility and they are far less effective.
-
Agree it needs a bit of a buff. But here’s a little guide I made to help people out. https://youtu.be/AGl234c-AKQ
-
Melee does some poison damage
-
It seriously needs some help. The hit registration is the worst I've ever seen
-
You actually have to try to utilize the perks for the neutral game, but I gotta say it’s really nice when you master it. Wallhacks and invis keeps you off radar and really does let you pick your engagements in PvP. That being said, shattering strike is all the class has for PvE since the supers awful hit detection and duration don’t do you any favors, and while invis on headshots is nice it’s just not enough. I’m hoping it gets some more ability cooldown perks, maybe activating flawless execution should grant melee/grenade energy or something like that. Friendly reminder: just because the perk says you need a crouching headshot kill, doesn’t mean you stay crouched for the whole gunfight. Just crouch as you take the final shot and aim for a headshot. Nothing too difficult to do.
-
I'll have to disagree. the only thing meh about it is the hit reg. Which all melee based supers suffer from. The super has very good tracking in my experience. Does decent boss damage but is far better for add clear. the heavy attack has good land to air tracking and a forgiving hitbox. In pve more damage is always welcome no matter how much. So while the smoke is boring it's still nice. Having to crouch to get a kill in pvp/pve is not a big deal. People just need to learn how to incorperate it into their strafe fights. and slide precision kills count as crouching kills to proc the effect. So chaparone slide shotgunning procs this often. True sight is good for those who are not masters of the radar/player behavior. The subclass in pvp is deff a win more subclass. But it's still good. Shattering strike is the best debuff in the game. it doesn't require a melee charge. it's a 50% debuff. you can apply it to more than one target or keep one target debuffed for a solid 16 seconds. It's niche as heck in pvp. But in pve it's amazing.
-
The super is trash but the invisible debuff ability could have uses in PvE similar to melting point.
-
Flawless execution is nice in PvE to since you can get precision kills easily on trash mobs to stay invis for potentially long periods of time. I agree though that the super's hit registration needs work, and increase in the movement speed a bit. Also, the smoke grenade should do more damage in PvE since it's supposed to actually do some damage. The damage it does makes me feel like I'm tossing the top tree's smoke nade at enemies
