Nerfing never helps anything. If there are things that currently stand head and shoulders above the rest, then other elements need to be pulled up to meet those, not the other thing dragged down. When the nerfing starts, things just become harmless. Crucible should be dangerous! Shotguns being an issue? Cool. Bump up the damage of primaries so Shotgunners have to adapt to a play style.. not just "Cool, I can tank enough bullets to just run up to that guy and click my mouse to get an instant kill." Pull up auto rifles and hand cannons etc so there's as much chance of you ending the dude before he runs up to you as there is of him running up to you.
Buffs not nerfs people.

2 RepliesShotguns are challenging to deal with on more of the Game Engine level. What prevents people from countering Shotgunners is the mobility involved. Shotgunners get to keep weaving and jumping around on their mad sprints to get too close for you to do anything about it. For the defender, you can't afford to do anything that would reduce your mobility. Face them to shoot them with Primaries, backpedal as you will, but without some really excellent shooting and luck, you are not putting the Shotgunner down before they get in your face with the shotgun. In fact, if you're shooting at all, you are losing mobility. Your best bet as a defender is if you can afford to put space between you and the Shotgunner. If the Shotgunner is smart, they wont shotgun that particular engagement and engage you with ranged equipment. Or, they will counter-camp, and wait for you to give up on waiting on them, cause they know their shotguns really are actually that good. Now, let's look at appropriate counters. What lets you retain mobility for keeping out of range, while also putting down the shotgunner? Supers, Rockets, and Shotguns. Supers and Rockets are not acceptable from a resource cost point of view. You have to compete for Heavy Ammo resources, and spending a Super you get once, maybe twice a match on a Shotgunner who gets 2 shots on spawn is unacceptable. That leaves just being a better shotgunner. This is just an analysis of a 1v1 model of engagement. There are more factors that come into play for both defense and offense in this scenario, both good and bad for each side when more players are involved on each side.
Nerfing never helps anything.
100% disagreed. Sometimes you need nerfs, sometimes you need buffs. Prime example of this is the wormhusk. There was no real way to balance anything around wormhusk because how can you make anything competitive against it? What buff could you give any exotic to make it more appealing in PvP than wormhusk? Would you give other exotics health regen possibilities? Then wormhusk becomes irrelevant, and needs to be buffed to compete with the other exotics. Bungie doesn't want everyone using the same items. They want variety. This latest update gives a TON of variety in crucible and it was accomplished through both nerfs and buffs. While I agree, buffs should be emphasized more, sometimes nerfs are needed.

5 RepliesEdited by Reaper: 9/1/2018 3:13:14 PMOnly people who complain are the pvp players. You have to adapt to the way the game changes. Everyone runs shottys, you run a shotty, same as everything else 👍

Nerfs are predominantly because of PvP. (Unless Bungie fail to balance something correctly before release) PvE always suffers because of it and always will. It's annoying that a third of the people that play the game have such an influence over the way the other two thirds are able to play it. Putting Telesto into the second slot was a good move for PvE but the crucibabies are crying so it'll be back to heavy next week...

All I’m hearing is to nerf fusion rifles...

I am entitled to have an advantage.......just because. Damn newbies everywhere running around with good the gear. It's not fair. Only I should have the gear. Bungie, make it happen, or else I'm holding my breath............hmmffffphh.......pahhh......" -- PvP Snowflake

The only thing that needs “nerfing” is the architect......bastards OP

Edited by RAUDRULF: 9/4/2018 8:32:09 AMI once Nerfed a Nerf so hard she couldn't stop Nerfing, and by she I meant he, and he I mean Pillow. it was covered in Nerf. Nerf everywhere. I got so Nerfy seeing that that I Buffed the whole day. I couldn't stop buffing thinking about how I Nerfed the Nerf out of that Nerf. This made my Buff so powerful I could Nerf a Nerf right through her Buff, and thinking about that Nerf made me Buff even more, Harder, faster, stronger. I Buffed so hard my Nerf Fell off, now I have no Nerf to Buff anymore. I have Nerfingly bad spelling so buff that. I love Cthulu. Mama June for president 2018

I interpret that as nerf fusion rifles.

31 RepliesDumbest thing i have read. Nerfing is in no shape or form a bad thing.. The same goes for buffing. To achieve balance Bungie need to set a standard for how they want their game to be. How fast should you move, how fast should you be able to kill someone, at what ranges should each weapon be most effective etc. When something as ridiculous as Graviton lance comes along, it needs nerfing. I never complained about Graviton lance, and i did not use it. But its obvious that it needed a downside, like more recoil. Why buff the entire game, when you can nerf one gun? A gun that kills fast, and is easy as hell to use(with added splash and seekers aswell) Then you might aswell set TTK at one bullet right away to save time, since when you buff everything in the game something new stands out as OP.. Then we have to buff again. When something is weak, you buff it. You dont nerf everything else in the game. It goes both ways.. With that said.. I have not met anything OP so far in the crucible.

It seems so... Balanced right now. almost perfect.

There must be both nerfs and buffs. Else all weapons will eventually kill in a single bullet. Ideally, look for a way to buff the counter option of anything deemed too strong first. But if that one feature is too far past everything else, then that one part of the game should be nerfed. Basically, there should be an upper and lower limit to how weak or strong a game item should be. If it’s outside that, take action to move it back into the correct range. If one item to too weak relative to the other but both are in the range, then buff the weaker item. Within the range, there is little need to nerf an item unless the process of buffing another item past it would put it outside the range.

yes, shotguns just a bit.

4 RepliesEdited by Eucadia: 8/31/2018 7:13:35 PMMost of the people who're in favor of nerfing now never played D1. D1 veterans witnessed how gradually the game became worse and worse after every nerf (sure, there were some "necessary nerfs" too but the general trend resulted in a constantly worsening game). We must not allow these D2 noobs to drag us down again in the same shitstorm.

nerf hand cannons 3 tapping with 110 rpm is op because i like AUTO RIFLES and it isn’t fair they can kill faster than me can GR GR GR NERF hunter shadestep makes them invincible so much better than titan wall and rift OP remove from the game bungie r you stupid nerf sniper rifles every time i spawn i get sniped by some virgin cod scrub quickscoper who is staring at me with some no skill required 10000 aim assist point and shoot one hit kill sniper it’s UNFAIR the only special weapon in the game should be GRENADE LAUNCHERS please bufffff play of the game and the colony they are not good enough and are outgunned by shotguns in every gunfight Not FAir free grenade launchers

honestly nerfing has helped only small circumstances. people seem to forget that everyone screaming for nerfs is kinda why we had such watered down gameplay in base D2 crucible and why at least in my opinion you never felt powerful in strikes and such. Ever since this new update i have felt more powerful and more like a guardian should be.

I swear I glanced over husk of worms today and I shit you not, the perk was called ”Pandering To Children” Both PvP & PvE communities in this game are awful, in certain ways.

Rn the only things I think need buffs are throwing knife damage and warlock meele range.

2 RepliesI really hope they don't go down the path of Nerf. It was the worst part about Destiny 1. The pace of Crucible is picking up so it stands to reason you're going to need faster reflexes and you can't just run around with the team and team shoot everything anymore

6 RepliesRight? Why nerf Orpheus rigs? Whhhyyyyyy?

1 ReplyWhat about things like Prometheus lens, that thing had to be nerfed when it came out.

21 RepliesSo everything should be a one shot kill like shotguns then ? Look I'll make this very clear some times nerfs are needed in a game to balance the game. There are times a mechanic, skill, weapon, armor, ect is just that over powered that they need nerfed. A prime example is the famous akimbo 1887s from MW2. Activison (people who also make Destiny BTW) didn't buff every other weapon to be as stupid as they where but nerfed it to be reasonable. Another case I can think off the top of my head would be the MSBS from CoD Ghost. A burst rifle that could 2 shot to a decent range and 3 shot across a map and CoD Ghost had some of the biggest maps in the entire history of the game. Instead of buffing other guns to its level they nerfed it down to a reasonable level. Buffing things can ruin a game just as much as nerfing things.
